OverviewOverview
• Ed Tech Workshops will design and implement an online instructional platform for the VPSS the Social Studies Curriculum (Tiers 1 and 2) using the Moodle online Course Management System.
• Moodle is an open source (free) course management system designed for the development of online training programs.
• Moodle is a dynamic online application that allows for unique content development, collaboration, ongoing assessment, and individual student accountability.
• The Moodle course environment supports the teaching/learning process with current and relevant textual material, graphics, video, sound files, and Internet resources consistent with the course objectives and state requirements.

Cost of online development and course maintenance services (Moodle)
•$7,000 each Tier (one subject area)•Separate contract for each Tier within an established time period•15 hours training for course facilitators included for each Tier•Course changes and additions included during contract period•Additional optional training at $200 an hour (beyond 15 hours)•Development and course maintenance included during contract period•There is no per student cost for course development and support services•VPSS online facilitators are compensated based on County guidelines for part time instructors.

Online courses do not require the use of District facilities except for training events and/or student orientation sessions.
Participants are required to have:•Computer access (PC or Mac) with Internet capability•CD ROM drive•Installed copy of Microsoft Word for PC or Mac (recommended)•Flash drive or other removable storage for saving and transporting course resources and assignments. •Headset for listening to audio resources (recommended)•Computer connected printer (recommended). Consumable materials (paper, ink) are provided by the course participants. •The Ed Tech Workshops staff provides the Moodle access procedures and general technical supportNote: Participants are responsible for the hardware requirements unless otherwise provided by the Teacher Training Academy staff.

•The Moodle online course includes access to all required and suggested materials required for successful completion of the course requirements•Ancillary resources, if needed, are provided by course facilitators to supplement online materials and added to the appropriate online course segments by Moodle course developers.
