From the Home and School Club HFN 2016 is in the books! Thank you to everyone that helped make Halloween Fun Night a big success! Thank you to the ticket sellers, counters, bakers, builders, chili chefs, basket creators, pumpkin walk crew, face painters, haunted hall builders, auction bidders, booth workers, clean-up crew, and much more! It was great to see all of the Bagby students and families having a great time, enjoying being together and part of our community. This is all possible because of each of you. Every donation and hour spent volunteering helped give our students a night to remember and to raise much-needed funds for the programs and events that benefit every Bagby student. These are the traditions that make the Bagby community unique. Last but not least, Thank you to the one and only Skooter Boyz - Jeff Lowery and Brian Tanger! We have been so lucky to have them in charge of our biggest FUNdraiser for the past 4 years. Not only have they put on a great event each year and successfully raised thousands of dollars for our school, they also took the time to make things better and more efficient. Their positive influence on Halloween Fun Night will be felt for years to come. They even helped to find us two great replacements Josh Lyngar (dad to 5th grader and 2nd grader) and Tim Lee (dad to a 3rd grader). Thank you Skooter Boyz!

3rd, 4th or 5th Grade Parents! DO YOU SEW? We need YOU!

Mr. Golden, the music teacher at Bagby and Fammatre, needs someone who likes to sew. Many of the recorder cases are still good, but have lost the stitching by the zipper and have become unusable. He would like to know if

someone is interested in re-sewing the cases so that they can be used again. If interested, please contact him at [email protected] or at 408-656-4453.

Coming in November! Bagby Families Doing

Good Together™ Donation Drive and Service

Event

Beginning on November 1st, the Bagby Community will be working together to collect items for Sacred Heart Community Services of San Jose as they prepare for the increased needs of the holiday season. This donation drive will culminate in an event on Wednesday, November 16th from 6:30-8:00pm at Bagby where we will come together as families to sort and pack all of the items, hear from the organization about what they do and also do a hands-on craft activity to send with all of the items going to the families in need. This donation drive will include gently used fall/winter items but also new items needed such as pop-top canned food, toiletries or socks!

As we prepare for the Doing Good Together™ Donation Drive consider starting at home!

- Mark your calendars for 6:30pm on November 16th! - Start talking with your kids about what they understand as “poverty”, what they think it would be like and answer any of the questions they might have in an age appropriate way. - As a family, start thinking about what fall/winter items you might have and no longer need that could benefit someone else. - As a family, talk about clever ways to raise money to help buy some of the new items Bagby hopes to provide. More details to come with specific information on items needed and ways to support your children’s giving spirit! If you have any questions, or ideas on how to further our impact, please contact Ashley Raggio at [email protected] .

Project Cornerstone presents an “Author Assembly” on Friday, November 4th

Generously funded by Bagby’s Home & School Club

We are excited to welcome author, Steve Seskin, to Bagby on Friday, November 4th for an interactive and musical assembly

for all students. He will be sharing his passion on topics like respect, kindness, community, teamwork, empathy and

compassion through music as well as discussing important ways to be an UPstander at school and beyond.

He will also be presenting his book Don’t Laugh at Me, Project Cornerstone’s November book, in musical form. This book

covers tolerance and acceptance of others, conflict resolution, and the importance of creating a school where all kids share

a sense of belonging and safety. Cornerstone volunteers will follow-up with further book discussion and activities in the

classrooms throughout the month of November. For more information about Mr. Seskin, please click here.

Halloween Fun and Safety – Plus, A New Cambrian Tradition: Operation Gratitude's Halloween Candy GIVE-Back!

Halloween is just around the corner, and while many families look forward to a day of creative costumes and an evening of tasty treats, we ask that families who choose to celebrate please keep in mind that students will need a full night's sleep in order to do their best at school the following Tuesday. As a reminder, costumes or dress up is not allowed at Bagby. We are also excited to announce that for the first time this year, Cambrian schools will be participating in Operation Gratitude's Halloween Candy GIVE-Back program. Students will join kids across the nation when they bring their Halloween candy and handwritten letters of gratitude to the collection station in the front office. The goodies will be shipped to Operation Gratitude for inclusion in Care Packages to U.S. Service Members deployed overseas in harm’s way and to First Responders serving here at home. Please bring any excess/leftover candy to school, and/or a letter or card to cheer up a service member or first responder, between Monday, October 31 and Friday, November 4 to participate. Let's all pitch in and spread a little joy to those who do so much to keep us safe!
