This device allows voters to vote independently with a touchscreen tablet, with options to change text size and contrast, handheld controller with braille, headphones with audio instructions and more.

Remote Accessible Vote by Mail (RAVBM) is also available.

A voter may request and receive access to the RAVBM system. This system allows voters to download and mark their ballot privately and independently using their own assistive technology, print their marked ballot, and mail it to the Registrar’s office to be counted.

MEJGAN AFSHAN Civil Rights Advocate Mejgan Afshan is a civil rights advocate, community organizer, and nonprofit co-founder. Compassion, integrity, and community service are the values that Mejgan’s refugee parents instilled in her. Her collaborative community work began at Helix High School, where she was News Editor of the Highland Fling. Mejgan credits the quality public education she received as the foundation of her successful advocacy, community engagement, and dedication to equitable policy change. She became Speech Team Captain while at Grossmont College and supported minority students threatened by xenophobia through interfaith dialogue. As co-founder of Borderlands for Equity, a pro bono, civil rights non-profit, Mejgan’s mission is to uplift our most marginalized community members, in collaboration with faith leaders and human rights advocates. Mejgan has been a devoted member of the San Diego Refugee Forum for the past 7 years and currently holds the position of Treasurer. She is also the founder of the East County Justice Coalition, a group dedicated to addressing inequity and racial justice. Mejgan regularly conducts workshops about effective advocacy, coalition building, and dismantling misogyny. Vote Mejgan Afshan for a more equitable future together.

PATRICIA N. DILLARD Businesswoman/Civic Leader I was born and raised in San Diego and have called La Mesa home for over 25 years. My husband and I moved to La Mesa to raise our three children because I wanted good schools and a safe place for my family. I can confidently say I found it.

I’ve been deeply committed to our community through my church, career, and civic engagement for 40 years.

Working in business development, helping families buy homes here in La Mesa and across the county, and serving as the Vice Chair of the La Mesa Community Police Oversight Board have given me a unique, first-hand experience of the challenges La Mesa business owners and our neighbors experience every day.

Our city needs to continue building on what has made La Mesa a great place to live while recognizing that COVID-19 has reshaped our economy, schools, neighborhoods, and futures. We can build a stronger La Mesa as we recover from COVID-19.

I have a history of service in La Mesa, I’ve served as Vice Chair of Government Affairs for the Pacific Southwest Association of Realtors, the La Mesa Village Association Board, and have worked as a successful Realtor in La Mesa for nearly 20 years.

Promote Jobs & Opportunity. No one has been hit harder by the pandemic and government overreach than our small businesses. As your next Council Member, I will fight any new regulations or effort to lockdown our businesses.

Fight New Taxes. SANDAG plans to track your mileage and tax you for every mile you drive. I’ll fight for your right to drive, your right to privacy, and against authoritarian track and tax policies.

MICHELLE LOUDEN AGE: 33 Behavior Analyst I hope to bring a more community-focused perspective to Southern California politics. We are entering a time of high anxiety. The planet is warming, mistrust is fomenting, people are isolating, and our perception is that resources are scarce. We have been led to believe that competition is the only way we can provide a better future for our families and succeed. But there is another way forward, and the answers are simple.

We invest in ourselves, and our local communities to pull each other up. The phrase “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” has always puzzled me because according to physics, one cannot ever exert enough force to lift themselves up. We need each other’s talents and skills. We need to be creative, and think flexibly in order to move forward to a new future.

JIM STIERINGER Retired Treasurer, City of La Mesa My experience as La Mesa’s elected City Treasurer has prepared me for service from Day 0ne.

A lifetime of community involvement includes membership on the Grossmont Hospital Board of Directors and the governing board of the Grossmont High School District.

Public health has become a political issue. No reasonable person should forego the therapeutic benefit of the COVID vaccine. I thank our many thoughtful residents who patiently waited in line at Sharp Grossmont Hospital and other sites for their inoculations. Public health and safety must be our primary concern.

Join me in full funding our police and fire departments. Join me in imposing reasonable limits on bike lanes. Join me in opposing plans to construct low quality low-cost housing in our neighborhoods. Recent high rise housing projects encroach on our public streets and are creating a fortress-like image to our downtown area, an example of which is the corner of Baltimore Drive and El Cajon Boulevard.

Remember. Your vote will make a difference. As your councilman I will always act responsibly and in your best interest.

SSAVE OUR CITRUS! A new plant disease called Huanglongbing that kills citrus trees has been found in Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties in backyard citrus. While this disease has not yet been found in San Diego County, early detection is key to protect our citrus trees. WHAT IS HUANGLONGBING? Huanglongbing, also called citrus greening, is a fatal citrus disease vectored by a pest called the Asian Citrus Psyllid. The fruits of an infected tree remain small and green

with bitter juice and drop early. The leaves have asymmetrical discoloration and the tree loses leaves. An infected tree eventually becomes unproductive and dies. WHAT YOU CAN DO:

- Inspect your citrus trees monthly for disease symptoms and Asian Citrus Psyllid.

- Do not move citrus plants and fruit with stems and leaves out of quarantine areas or across state or international borders.

- Plant new trees that come from reputable, licensed nurseries. - Cooperate with agricultural officials.
