Michael J ANDERSONIndependent

My principal place of residence is in the Councilarea.

My focus, if elected, will be guiding the efficientdelivery of bread-and-butter core services: thethree waters; rubbish/recycling; land use zoningand strategic infrastructure planning; community

cultural and sporting organisations; library. We have a greatcommunity spirit here that is a credit to us all, wonderfulamenities and an abundance of parks providing almost endlessrecreational opportunities: I will strive to conserve themwherever practicable, or replace them with something better ifneeds be. On the bigger issues, I stand for mutually beneficialcooperation with neighbouring councils and cordial relationswith central government: no council is an island. Upper Hutthas largely untapped potential to support innovative, yetenvironmentally low impact businesses. As your Councillor, Iwill work to expand recreation, tourism, hospitality and nichemanufacturing, whilst promoting pride of ownership amongstour existing independent traders. If you value enthusiasm, constructive engagement, and sensible development, pleasevote Anderson for Council.

I am standing because this city constantly needsnew voices at the Council table which expressfresh ideas and solutions, coupled with foresight

and resolve.Upper Hutt deserves to be more than a great place to live workand play, it needs to be prosperous and not just for some.Upper Hutt must review its District Plan to provide the certaintythat will encourage investment and the resultant progress andprosperity we all expect and deserve.I believe that a determined efficiency drive across all Councilservices would enable rates increases to be capped at or belowthe rate of inflation without compromising service levels. If elected I would readily make myself available to directlydiscuss any concerns you may have about council issues. If youwant someone with drive and determination to represent youthen I am head and shoulders above the rest of the bunch.

Management Act 1991), and member of the Judicial Committee.I understand what is going on.Some of the Corporate Services Officers of the Upper Hutt CityCouncil and Quotable Values New Zealand Limited have, for toomany years, illegally persecuted our Suburban CommercialRated business.I am not in love with their efforts to assist the dedicateddevelopers. I am very annoyed with these sometimes-corruptlocal authorities and their speculator mates.Professional insured thugs will not intimidate me.If someone badmouths the Kent's ask, what have they been upto? There is an organised Council vendetta and I have the expertiseto give the illegal activities of the speculative Council's Officersa run for their money.

I am passionate about creating a vibrant thrivingcity. During the last 3 years I have had theprivilege of serving our community as the Chair

of City Services, Deputy Chair of Legislation and member ofShared Services. These positions have enabled me to representyou and progress the outcomes council has achieved. Upper Hutt deserves a Council that considers the wider social, cultural, economic and environmental issues in deliveringquality long-term development decisions, while keeping ratesaffordable. The community deserves accountability and transparency in itsCouncil, in the decisions it takes and the performance of itsevery day operation. These are the principles I have championedin my time as your representative. Through me, the community has a voice that is approachable, connected, multicultural, and has influenced council's decisionson many issues. I support Upper Hutt staying as a council and will support thecommunity voice on this principle.

I pushed for increasedinvestment into our infrastructure - including the new UpperHutt Station, rural road upgrades, LED streetlights, dedicatedcycleways, and a recycling drop off depot. Our greatest asset is our stunning environment - our rivers, parks, hills, trees and rural paradise. We must tap intosustainable tourism opportunities that both showcase ournatural environment and strengthen our local economy. Wecan do this and still keep rates low, spending under control, without any amalgamations. Our city has so much untapped potential. We can do so muchmore. A vote for me is a vote to take Upper Hutt from good togreat.

During my childhood the Hutt River wasdrinkable, it tasted sweet. Prior to 2012 the LocalGovernment Act featured four essential well-beings: social, economic, environmental and

cultural care for our communities. Central government removedthese. Reinstating the four well-beings would help restorecouncil focus on community and encourage quality andsustainable infrastructure and growth for our city.Amalgamation is still a threat. Our water, rates, roads and landcould be taken from local council control and managed bycommissioners. I am committed to protecting our assets, parks, local businesses, environment and rights of local people to makelocal decisions. The Council's TPP Free Zone addresses all ofthese concerns.I support building on Council's successful shared services modelsand reinstating kerbside recycling. My husband and I love living and raising our family in UpperHutt. The factthe three DHB Hutt, Capital Coast, and Wairarapa are workingwell together is what I pushed for some time back. Am veryinvolved in many Lower Hutt organisations including ChairGWRC Hutt River Floodplain, Seniors, Workers, Chamber ofCommerce, JP, Celebrant and Genealogy. I am a current Regional Councillor representingLower Hutt. I am Deputy Chair of the Hutt Mana

Charitable Trust and Deputy Chair of Britannia House, Residencefor the Elderly. I have significant governance experiencethrough serving on these and other public bodies. There is clearevidence of serious understaffing at the Hutt Hospital and thatimpacts the health and wellbeing of the clinical staff and ofcourse the patients. Mental health and maternity are just twoof the areas where patients are most vulnerable and adequatemedical staffing is essential. The Hutt Valley's population isageing and that will increase the need for geriatric care. I willwork to address the imbalance between the medical andmanagement staffing levels. The DHB will need astute, realisticand experienced leadership to meet the challenges ahead. Ioffer you, experience, commitment and integrity.

It is often said that our biggest asset is our health, and we need to look after it. The same is true forour community as a whole. The challenges facing

today's healthcare system are huge - with constant financialpressure to do more with less. But the rewards from getting itright can also be enormous. I want to draw on my experience -nine years as a health sector chief executive and 15 years as aHutt City councillor - to help make a positive improvement inthe health and lives of Hutt Valley residents. Innovation plays akey role. We need to be making smarter use of new healthcaremodels to foster active and healthy lifestyles, to reducehealthcare demand and the cost of chronic conditions. We alsoneed to be reaping the benefits of new technology to givepeople more information and control over their health andcare.

At the annual review ofmy health last year, my specialist told me that I am as fit andwell as most men of my age who don't have my history ofillness, so I am keen and able to serve.
