VOLUNTEERS GUIDE TO THE PLANTING‘19 3 - 5 May Woodfordia volunteering If you find yourself in a situation that you are not comfortable with, we encourage you to approach whoever it is that is causing you a problem to try and resolve the issue in the first instance. You can also talk to your Department Head or the Volunteers Manager if you need some support or someone to talk to. Your reliability will prevent other volunteers from doing double shifts. If you can’t follow through on your commitment, it is essential that you contact your Department Head or Karen McBride, the Citizenship, Department Heads & Volunteers Manager on 0437 740 824 or by going to The Pod. getting in Crew (Volunteers & Organisers) Registration Operating Hours FRI 11:00am to 9:00pm SAT 7:00am to 5:00pm *Please have your photo ID with you and your printed or digital version of your e-ticket. It’s important to complete your online induction prior to your arrival. Otherwise you may face long delays at the gate. If arriving prior to 3 May, please arrive during business hours and check in at the Woodfordia office. WELCOME TO THE CELEBRATION, THANKS FOR MAKING IT HAPPEN Once upon a time, The Planting was a simple little working bee, where folks arrived, pitched a tent, gathered together in an old peg-and-pole to decide who went where to plant what trees. When the work was done, the instruments came out, the voices joined together and a celebration of what was accomplished was had by all. That celebration continues to this day but now, it’s with a much larger group (though still small) and the mixture of voices of inspiring presenters, exceptionally talented musicians and an engaged audience has grown dramatically over the past 24 years, turning the once-working bee into a veritable festival. The fact that it has become a festival in its own right just shows how important it is for so many to get together, get hands dirty while sharing a laugh or a dance, expand the mind and contribute to something beyond oneself. It goes without saying that volunteering behind the scenes to enable all this is more than just appreciated, it is a vital part of our lore. You are part of a crew of almost 500 people that will do everything from stock the loos with toilet paper to hang the lights in a way that takes one’s breath away. Some of you will smile and welcome our patrons as they excitedly hand over their ticket for a wristband, while others will do the tapety-tap-tap on those very same wristbands so folks can buy a beverage at one of our bars, again served by our wonderful volunteer bar folk. Every single volunteer is essential to making this festival happen and we are grateful to each and every one of you. We hope you come to the festival with an open mind and heart ready to be filled with optimism, that you pack your sense of humour as we’re bound to make a few bungles along the way, and that you bring your willingness to join us in co-creating something that will lift up the spirits of everyone who comes along. On behalf of the Management Committee, Woodfordia Staff and Organisers, thank you and have an amazing time at The Planting. plant seed grow ideas search imagine create lore discover ideas renew celebrate The Planting Festival is organised by Woodfordia Inc., a community based non-profit organisation whose object is to foster the folk movement. camping If you plan on camping on site, please camp in one of the designated camping areas (see reverse for site map).
