Volunteer action in the context of natural disasters has longbeen one of the most visible manifestations of volunteerism

Voluntary efforts are needed to meet international targetssuch as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)

State of the World Volunteerism Report

The Way Forward Volunteerism should not take the place of actions that are the

responsibility of the state

Care should be taken not to overprescribe how citizens should

engage in volunteerism, it could remove the spontaneity ofvoluntary action

Role of volunteer action should be included in core discussions ondevelopment policy and programmes

Connect volunteerism and national development planning towards

the MDG targets and peace and development
