We are a not-for-profit and non-political body, which gives us the freedom to openly and freely advance our position on, issues for the betterment all international students in Australia.

Our Mission• Advocate for the interest and needs of international students;• Advocate for high quality education for international students;• Facilitate network building among stakeholders with an interest in

supporting international students;• Host an annual national forum for international students;• Provide a means of consulting and engaging with international

students;• Host future international student roundtable events in partnership

with various government entities;• Promote cross-cultural awareness and interactions in Australia;• Advocate for non-racist, non- discriminatory law reform concern-

ing international students.

What You Can Expect as a Volunteer• CISA values its volunteers and we will provide you with:• A written position description so that you can understand your

role and the tasks you are authorised to perform as a volunteer;• A full induction, orientation and any training necessary for the

volunteer role;• An experienced student representative as your supervisor, so that

you have the opportunity to ask questions and get feedback;• Reimbursement for your reasonable expenses so you are not out-

of-pocket as a result of volunteering for us;• A certificate of Recognition at the end of the term;• Participation in CISA related activities and events.

What CISA will Ask of You• Support CISA aims and objectives• Participate in all relevant induction and training programs;• Operate under the direction and supervision of nominated CISA

executives and obey reasonable directions and instructions;• Understand and comply with the organisation’s policies and

procedures; including antidiscrimination, health and safety and confidentiality;

• Notify your supervisor or another member of CISA committee of any hazardous situations that pose a risk to you or others and report any accidents or incidents relating to staff, volunteers or plant and equipment.

• Behave appropriately and courteously to both the staff and the public with whom you interact in the course of your role;

• Use any property or equipment given to you in your role only for purpose of the job and return it to the organisation when you finish your volunteer role;

Overall Duties and Responsibilities of the CISA National President

The CISA National President is responsible to run the Coun-cil of International Students Australia.

Their responsibilities include:• Initiating and maintaining liaisons with other national organisa-

tions, peak bodies, community leaders and the relevant government ministers;

• Initiating and maintaining contact with Member Organisations on a regular basis;

• Attending appropriate conferences, forums, workshops, roundta-ble discussions, meetings, as an advocate of the interests of inter-national students, and preparing speeches, reports and papers as required

• Acting as the chief spokesperson for CISA and an advocate of the interests of international students in the media, electronic media, press, etc.

Executive Assistant • Fulfil the role of high-level personal assistant for the National Pres-

ident, including the preparation of reports, policy documents and proposals for consideration as required;

• Attending to diary & meeting management; email management as agreed;

• Report writing and collation of information servicing of meetings chaired by the Executives.

• Provide support to the National President, ensuring all documenta-

tion is presented in a manner supporting and enhancing the profes-sional image of CISA;

• In consultation with the Executive monitor and report the progress of key projects and performance indicators quarterly;

• Any other duties as assigned.

Strategic Policy and Issues Coordinator• Provide proactive political, strategic and administrative support to

the Council;• Assist, formulate, develop, monitor and review policies which

relate to the functions of CISA Executive team and to advise the Council accordingly;

• Specifically, to work with the Executive to review and evaluate the Council’s strategic and action plan for 2017/2018.

Media and Communication Advisor• Develop a positive and proactive relationship with all levels of

the media to facilitate positive, fair and accurate coverage of the Council;

• Provide strategic media advice and assistance to National President to ensure Council maximises communication opportunities and enhances its reputation.

Work alongside the National President and Public Relations Officer to:• Respond to all Council media enquiries, researching relevant infor-

mation and providing a response in a timely fashion;• Research, write, distribute and follow up on the Council’s media

releases;• Actively monitor the Council’s media coverage and prepare and

distribute media updates;

Office of the President• Identify, develop and implement public relations campaigns that

address key issues at a State and Federal level, and which have posi-tive outcomes for the Council;

• Prepare communications strategies to assist other portfolios to market their programs, activities and events to the community;

• Provide internal advice on the Council’s website and social media channels.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities of the CISA National Vice President

The CISA National Vice President is responsible to run the internal day-to-day.

Their responsibilities include:• Support the President and act as the default acting President when

the President is absent;• Assisting the other executives with their day-to-day tasks in their

portfolio;• Run performance reviews for all the CISA executives.

and programs;• Manage the budget;• Manage intelligence activities and participate in networking activi-

ties in order to identify potential partners;• Identify and look for sites and organisations likely to create a part-

nership;• Negotiate the contracts;• Monitor the development of the partnerships;• Analyse the results to ensure that agreements put in place are cost

effective.

CISA committee handbook;• Assisting with creation, distribution and collection of feedback

from council-wide annual survey;• Assisting with providing research for policies, training, strategic

planning, and other human resource issues;• Ensuring the effective utilisation of plans related to HR programs

and services;• Answering committee requests and questions;• Assisting with new volunteer hiring processes;

Overall Duties and Responsibilities of the CISA Secretariat

The CISA National Secretary is responsible to run any corre-spondence with respect to the governance of CISA.

Their responsibilities include:• Minute-taking during Executive Meetings;• Informing Executive Committee members of all Executive Com-

mittee Meetings; including preparing and distributing the agenda;• Editing the CISA Policy document to ensure consistency of lan-

guage and numeration, and to provide cross-references of related policies;

• Ensuring CISA’s email lists and website are maintained;• Being responsible for the administration of all general meetings of

Council;• Update and maintain all member information as well as organising

and maintaining files and records;• Maintain records and a description of the procedures in use for the

benefit of their successor and of other interested parties;• Maintain the archival materials of the Council and the database

relating to member organisations.

Executive Assistant • Preparing and editing correspondence, communications, presenta-

tions and other documents;• Designing and maintaining databases;• Filing and retrieving documents and reference materials;• Conducting research, collecting and analysing data to prepare

reports and documents.

Human Resource AssistantWork alongside the National Vice President and Secretariat to:• Assist Human Resource coordinator’s duties and responsibilities;• Assist in attracting high quality applicants of vacant roles;• Create and maintain the database of CISA employees (executives

and volunteers);• Develop KPI and performance review method for volunteers.

Membership Assistant• Assist with maintaining regular contact with existing CISA mem-

bers through weekly or fortnightly communiqués;• Maintaining the database for all existing members of CISA.

Constitution Assistant• Actively reviewing the current constitution and propose changes or

amendments when necessary;• Ensure that the Council fulfils its legal duties;• Ensure that the Council is operating according to the constitution.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities of the CISA National Treasurer

The CISA National Treasurer is responsible to run the trea-sury of CISA.

Their responsibilities include:• In conjunction with other executive members, ensuring that the

budget is responsibly spent to fund activities of the organisation for the entire financial year;

• Actively participating in the business of CISA;• Supporting the President and other executive committee members

in the fulfilment of their respective individual roles;• Attending CISA meetings as scheduled;• Preparing budgets for submission to the CISA executive members;• Preparing financial reports and statements for submission to the

CISA executive members and stakeholders;• Maintaining financial records including invoices, receipts and bud-

gets for the submission to the executive members and the stake-holders;

• Presenting the financial status of CISA to the executive members and stakeholders when requested;

• Liaising with external auditors when• preparing financial reports at the end of the financial year.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities of the CISA National Public Relations Officer

The CISA National Public Relations Officer determines the image and reputation of CISA with its stakeholders, which consequently and heavily influences the organisation’s suc-cess.

Their responsibilities include:• To plan and develop events for CISA; and manage the promotion

of events;• To liaise with the different State Reps;• To improve and facilitate communication within CISA; and• To work with the spokesperson on all events they attends on be-

half of CISA;• To create, manage and update a media list; and• To create, manage and update a contact list with all key stake-

holders;• To manage all communication leaving CISA;• To maintain and update CISA website and social media.

Executive Assistant • Create, deliver, edit, and optimise PR materials;• Ensure that messages are supportive of and consistent with market-

ing strategies;• Supervise social media outreach;• Deliver content via LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, email, or direct

mail; • Coordinate and deliver email campaigns & mass-mail materials.• Create brochures and sell sheets;• Provide support to public relations department;

• Coordinate flow of information and communication and dissemi-nate it according to plan/strategy;

• Promote products and services through public relations initiatives.• Develop marketing communications campaigns;• Create and deliver press releases, media relations content, case

Marketing Coordinator• Organises the preparation of proposals and presentations using

• Develop marketing plans and executes the tactical initiatives;• Generate marketing insights that optimise marketing activities;• Work with State Operational team to organise and market events

such as CISA Talk on Campus and State Roundtable;• Prepare status reports on marketing efforts with Social Media and

Media Relations Coordinator.

Social Media Coordinators• Current media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram;• Bringing unique/ creative ideas to the table daily;• Create strategy, messaging, content, plans, schedules and manage

posts;• Overseeing and executing defined social media strategies;• Creating/managing fully integrated social calendars and cam-

paigns;

Public Relations Portfolio• Ensuring social media campaigns are fully optimised, for-

ward-thinking and possess consistent movement towards CISA’s vision and mission;

• Work closely with PR Portfolio team (marketing, design, media and web developers) to assure social strategy efforts are translated across all goals;

• Using social media publishing, tracking and analytic platforms such at HootSuite, Google Analytics, etc.

Media Relations CoordinatorWork alongside the National President and Public Relations Officer to:• Manage and moderate communications between the Council and

various media outlets such as newspapers, radio broadcasts and television stations;

• Inform the media when something new happens within the organi-sation;

• Communicate with journalists when a negative or positive event happens;

• Use press releases, media event and broadcasts to improve rela-tionships with media sources and journalists to obtain optimum media coverage for the Council.

Graphic Designer• Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and

materials;• Plans concept by studying information and materials;• Illustrates concept by designing rough layout of art and copy re-

garding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthet-ic concepts;

• Obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for ap-

proval;• Prepares final layout by marking and pasting up finished copy and

art;• Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as

needed.

Sponsorship CoordinatorWork alongside the National Vice President, National Trea-surer and Public Relations Officer to:• Execute annual development plan/strategy to increase sponsor-

ships for the operation of the Council, including its annual national conference;

• Identify and solicit individual, corporate and foundation sponsor prospects;

• Maintain contact and relationships with sponsor prospects;• Renew current major sponsorships and encourage upgrading spon-

sorship levels when possible;• Assemble sponsorships materials, including letters, proposals, bud-

gets, and presentations;• Ensure prompt acknowledgement of sponsorships received;• Maintain calendar and meet deadlines for event sponsorships;• Prioritise projects to keep multiple projects moving in a timely

• Work closely with the technical team to maintain site standards with regard to new development;

• Give guidance and advice on layout, colours and styles.

Web Developers • Be adaptable and able to pick up new techniques;• Create website designs;• Meeting with the executives and other teams to discuss require-

ments and or project progress to meet business requirements;• Keep up-to-date with recent technological and software develop-

ments including HTML, CSS and have some knowledge or willing to learn about JavaScript and Ajax, PHP, Mobile Support, etc.;

• Be able to troubleshoot the website on multiple platforms and browsers;

• Be able to accomplish search engine optimisation and edit the metadata on the website;

• Have knowledge on editing Wordpress sites by either using Word-press or an FTP;

• Deliver feedback and regular update to CISA National Public Rela-tions Officer.

cation to assist students who may need support in school tribunals and to suggest amendments to the corresponding regulations when they affect the rights of international students;

• Exchanging perspectives about the industry with colleagues across the country. Conference attendance to establish links with industry partners;

• Conducting educational research to identify and evaluate develop-ments in education;

• Serving on committees to identify present and future needs within the education industry, and the preparation of reports and informa-tion papers

• Communicating and loading with institutional authorities;• Raising awareness on the ESOS Act and the National Strategy for

International Education 2015.

findings and recommendations for the Education Portfolio;• Participate in developing and maintaining information sources and

contacts for the portfolio and may attend meetings to collect infor-

mation for related projects directed by the Education Officer;• Research topics independently and compile data and present infor-

mation both orally and in writing• Contribute to the creation/writing of task report(s) or paper(s);• Required to interact with Governmental or industrial representa-

tives.

Campaign Assistant• Coordinate the implementation of the campaign strategies, includ-

ing by advising on and overseeing the development and design of campaign projects;

• Advise researchers, campaigners and other colleagues, on the development of appropriate campaign materials, including timely actions to support agreed objectives, and editing documents where required;

• Prepare campaigning guidelines and share within the movement good campaigning ideas, activities, and materials, and contributing to ensure that there is a unified message sent to the public.

Grievance AssistantWork alongside the National Education Officer, National Welfare Office, and National Equity Officer to:• Build strong networks between CISA and other organisations on a

local, state and national level that have the capacity to deliver legal services and assist international students;

• Establish direct connections with both government and non- gov-ernmental organisations in order to do referrals upon receiving complaints.

(AHRC),• research officers and other equity representatives with an interest

in international students’ issues.

• Communicating with Fairwork Ombudsman caseworkers and other welfare representatives with an interest in students’ issues.

local, state and national level that have the capacity to deliver legal services and assist international students;
