US Army Corps of Engineers and North Star Borough have offered their facilities!

Chena Lakes Recreation Area

The area includes covered pavilions, restroom facilities, trails, fields, forests, Chena River and the man-made dam. The triangles represent potential station sites.

Station Tests• Hands-on, problem solving

• 50 points total, 12 pt. Times New Roman

• Students will have 45 minutes at each station:– 15 minutes: Introductions, career background– 30 minutes: Testing

• You provide test equipment, answer keys, helpers

• Envirothon staff provides copies of tests, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, envelopes

Two Categories• Teams– Each student has a unique talent to offer– Students become “experts” in a study area– Prepare a presentation

• Individuals– Varied preparation– Okay to help, but indicate by writing DO NOT GRADE– Do not prepare presentation

Current Issue Judges create a place-based (Interior Alaska) problem scenario that students will address and present

Builds team work, confidence, advocacy skills

Team Presentation

• Current Issue: Alaska Rangeland Management

• Teams will have 10-minutes to present their solution to a real-world problem/scenario

• Students receive scenario 3 weeks prior

• Volunteers who created the scenario will sit on the judging panel

• Other stations should think about how to integrate the Current Issue into their field test

After field tests, some students will be giving their presentation while others will be involved in a service project or a large group activity related to the Current Issue: Alaska Rangeland Management
