Knight of the Month for July 2017! While there were a few standouts during themonth of July, Jeff, as is usually the case, was always on-hand to help his parish, his

community, and his brothers.

During the month, Jeff worked the entire six days at the St. Mary’s Great Fair invarious game booths. Jeff assisted at the 7/16 Pancake Breakfast in shopping,

doing prep work, serving, cleaning, and transporting items to and from the CouncilHouse and St. Mary’s Grammar School. He was an advocate of the new 20/20 MassProject to support the “Babies in the Womb Feel Pain” initiative. A dedicated Knight,he helped set-up and clean-up after the 7/5 New Officer Installation Ceremony. The

list could go on (he attended our Business and Scoial Meeting as well as theCouncil’s Meeting with Life Teen to start working together on various activities) asJeff has given much of himself. Jeff is truly supported by his adoring wife and 2

wonderful daughters. Thank you to the Kandravy family for sharing yourhusband/dad with us!

We are appreciative of his passion and loyal support to everything the Knights forColumbus stands for!

GRAND KNIGHT'S MESSAGEAs we head into the new Columbian year, it is myhope that all our Brothers are healthy and doingwell. We had a very busy July as we did our part inthe 2017 very successful St. Mary’s Great Fair. Agreat turnout of Brothers loaned a helping hand allsix evenings whether manning game booths, cooking or working the beer tent. We also joined

the 20/20 Mass Project - an effort to ban abortion past 20 weeks (post-fertilization) in New Jersey by passing the Pain Capable Unborn ChildProtection Act by the year 2020 (A3452/S2026). The Lombardi Council ishaving a Mass offered every first Tuesday at 8:15 AM at St. Mary’s Chapel for aperiod of one year starting in December 2017 and running through November2018. These Masses will be offered for the “protection of Babies in the Womband their Families.”

We had our New Officer Installation Ceremony on July 5th where our WorthyChaplain, Fr. Rick, celebrated Holy Mass and our Worthy District Deputy,William Horton, presided over the ceremony. Everyone enjoyed a spread fromTaliercio’s afterwards and shared some laughs. We held a meeting with LifeTeen representatives and discussed doing some joint ventures (especially co-hosting a Christmas Dinner/Gift Auction on December 9th at St. Mary’s). BobCastner and John Gillis did a great job manning the grill for Life Teen’s“Farewell to Drew BBQ” (their ministry leader, Drew Pillar retired) on July 30th. We did two ARC Drive Collections (one at Stop and Shop on Jul 15th and oneat Best Market on July 22nd) that were successful thanks to all the Brothersthat came out under the leadership of our Community Director, Bob Castner, our Council Director, John Brandon and Robert Lauricella.

We also sponsored a very successful Pancake Breakfast on July 16th tosupport one of our Seminarians here at St. Mary’s, Christopher Ziegler, who isentering his first year at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary down in Maryland.

Looking ahead, August and September will be just as busy. We still meet every1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Council House at 872 LeonardvilleRoad in Leonardo. I hope to see many of you decide to come out to one of ourmeetings and perhaps join us for one of our events. I am proud to serve asyour Grand Knight

Vivat Jesus!

OUR CHAPLAIN’S MESSAGEDear Brother Knights,

This is my first time writing to you as yourchaplain. It is a joy to be with you in this capacityand I ask that you all pray for me that I may fulfilthis role in the best way. This month of August,

we are reminded of the maternal love for us of the Blessed Virgin Mary. August15h is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and we arereminded that our hope is in being with God for all eternity. Our Lady’sAssumption was the fruit of her holy and immaculate life. May we, as Disciplesof Christ and Knights of Columbus, learn to say “yes” with our whole life likeOur Lady did before us. May we look to her as the shining example of what itmeans to serve and love God.

Let us pray for each other!

Sincerely yours in Christ,

CATHOLIC CITIZENSHIP ESSAY CONTESTThe Order encourages all councils and assemblies to sponsor the Knights of

Columbus Essay Contest at schools in their communities. The essay contest is acreative way to encourage young people to become citizens who are firmly grounded

in the Faith.

The Order has expanded the Knights of Columbus Essay Contest to all Catholicstudents — in public, private or parochial schools — in grades 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12during the current school year. The contest has also been expanded to go through

the different levels of competition to the international level.

The theme of the essay contest is “Going to the Peripheries.” The contest opens thedoors of young minds, enabling the entrants to be creative, thoughtful and

introspective in their work.

"Through the Incarnation the Lord has united himself forever with suffering humanity-not as an abstraction but throughout history with each suffering person. Jesus is

already at the peripheries. The question for us is whether He will be there alone orwhether His disciples will be there with Him." -Supreme Knight Carl Anderson

INSURANCE AGENTS REPORT

Don’t wait, act today

When your family is hungry, you see that this need is taken care of quickly. You don’tput it off until tomorrow, you act immediately to the best of your ability. As a providerto your wife and children, your responsibilities are great and your time is spread thin.

It is easy to forget important tasks or let them slip to the backburner for later.

Everything, including your health, can change in the blink of an eye. Don’t put offtoday what can’t wait until tomorrow. As your professional Knights of Columbusagent, I urge you to make securing life insurance for you and your family a top

priority.

It is my fraternal obligation to make sure that every member has the opportunity toprotect his family with the Order’s top-rated insurance products. I’ll work with you toput a plan in place that will help your family when that help is what they needed the

most.

Your Knights of Columbus insurance program is second to none. As the premiersafety net for Catholic families for more than 126 years, our insurance program

makes me proud. But I’m also concerned that too many of our brother Knights havenot yet looked into the needs of their family. I suspect that, for many of them, life

insurance has drifted to the backburner until tomorrow. Do not be one of them; moveyour insurance needs to the forefront today.

I’m can be reached at 732.895.2272 by phone or e-mailed at [email protected] me. Let’s talk.
