1 Public engagement activities for the inquiry

Distribution of issues paper and inquiry information

To raise awareness of the inquiry and the call for submissions, the committee posted hard copies of the issues paper for the inquiry, submission forms and flyers to the following stakeholder groups and individuals:

• Queensland public and private hospitals • Queensland residential aged care facilities • Hon Annastacia Palaszczuk MP, Premier and Minister for Trade • Hon Jackie Trad MP, Deputy Premier, Treasurer and Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander Partnerships • Hon Stephen Miles MP, Minister for Health and Minister for Ambulance Services • Hon Coralee O’Rourke MP, Minister for Communities and Minister for Disability Services and

Seniors • other Members of the Queensland Parliament • Federal Ministers and agencies responsible for aged care and health • the Health Ombudsman • professional legal associations • the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety • private health insurers • unions representing workers in the aged care and health sectors • local governments, including indigenous councils, and the Local Government Association of

Queensland • faith groups • stakeholders registered with government lists and previous committee inquiries • the State’s 16 hospital and health services • Queensland primary health networks • oncology support networks • multicultural groups, and • other stakeholders who registered with the committee specifically to receive information about

the inquiry.

Online submissions

To make the submission process more accessible, the committee provided a web-based platform for lodging short submission to the inquiry. This platform asked a series of questions for submitters to respond to and provided space to post additional comments. A total of 2,219 submissions to the inquiry were lodged via this platform. The text from the application is included in this volume.

Information to the committee’s subscribers

The committee provided information about the inquiry to over 4,000 groups and individuals registered with the secretariat to receive regular email updates about the committee’s work.

Advertising for the inquiry

The committee supported its engagement activities through the placement of advertisements in various media publications throughout the inquiry. Advertisements about the inquiry and call for submissions were placed in The Courier Mail on 16 February 2019, the Queensland Country Life on 21 February 2019, all Quest newspapers across Queensland on 28 March 2019 and the Bribie Weekly on
