The next 10 years were hell. Between the kids teasing me and having to practice, I’m not sure what was worse. I played my first paying job at the age of 13 and got my first Cordovox at the age of 16. During high school I played for private parties and after high school I went “on the road.” I played Cordovox and keyboards with many different types of groups and learned a lot about the music business. I moved to Arizona in 1982 and have continued to play music by performing at most of the senior facilities around town. Even though I play the accordion, I never refer to myself as an accordion player. I consider myself a very good entertainer who happens to play the accordion. I enjoy playing many different types of music but mostly I like to play polkas. I am a very relaxed player and I’m quite content with my level of playing. I think my playing ability falls somewhere between a beginner and the world’s best. That should narrow it down! I love what I do and I enjoy sharing it with others.

PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Here’s a hearty welcome back to all of you. I hope your summer was super duper. Where ever your travels took you, whether it was camping, fishing or sightseeing in our great state of Arizona, a visit to your hometown, visiting relatives and friends, touring this beautiful country of ours, cruising to some tropical island or going abroad or maybe just surviving the summer in Arizona. A certificate of bravery should be awarded to anyone who spent the summer in the Arizona desert heat. But then it is a dry heat!!! As the days grow shorter we can anticipate temperatures returning to something more enjoyable, instead of 110 degrees plus. And before we know it the Holidays will be here again. I think I can wait for that a little while longer. The snowbirds will be returning to soak up the sun and enjoy the wonderful fall and winter weather here in the Arizona desert. Please welcome Tony Zizzo, Don Baker and John Babcock as Motorola Retirees' Club of Arizona Vice-Presidents for 2007-2008 season. If you haven’t met Tony, Don or John please introduce yourself. They will be happy to talk with you and get your thoughts and ideas regarding our Motorola Retirees' Club of Arizona. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Also please welcome back Frances Peterson as Treasurer, Dorothy Brunk as Secretary. Frances and Dorothy have done a bang up job for the club. I am happy to be returning as your President. We are planning a great year ahead for the Motorola Retirees' Club of Arizona. But along with saying that we need the help of all the members of the Motorola Retirees' Club of Arizona to volunteer when ever and where ever they can. If every member would contribute a little of their time we can remain the strong successful organization we have always been in the past. There will be openings for committee chairpersons and committee members. We need some fresh ideas for the Motorola Retirees' Club of Arizona. If you are interested in joining a committee or chairing one please let any one of the board members know. New members are always welcome. Maybe there is someone you know out there that hasn’t joined as yet. You might invite them to join you for our September 26, 2007 meeting of the Motorola Retirees’ Club of Arizona. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you there. Respectfully, LuDene Jackson

Attention Retirees

Retiree Benefits Protection Association undertakes legal review of Retiree Health

Benefits.

The non-profit Retiree Benefits Protection Association (RBPA) was created by and for Motorola retirees two years ago to provide a unified and effective voice for Motorola retirees regarding benefit issues, and to finance legal research into certain questionable actions of Motorola relating to its administration of retiree health and pension benefits. An organization with this charter seems more necessary with each passing day, in these times when many large companies are seeking to whittle down promised retiree benefits long after those retirees have contributed greatly, as active employees, toward making the companies grow and prosper. All Motorola retirees living in the USA are eligible for RBPA membership. As we stated in May 2007 by doubling or tripling its current membership, the RBPA will be stronger and better able to fight effectively for the benefit rights of Motorola retirees. But as it has turned out membership growth during the summer of 2007 has been extremely week. We thank the new members who have joined in the last few month but we still need each retiree to seriously consider the consequences of possibly not having insurance available and join the RBPA now!!!!.

It’s easy to become a member, via the Internet or a phone call! If you have access to the Internet, you can obtain further information about the RBPA and its activities by checking out its website, http://www.rbpa.info. A membership application can be filled out there online. Alternately, please call Jeff Gorin at 480-831-6623 or Phil McNett at 602-795-0553 for additional information and to request that a membership application be mailed to you. The RBPA has retained counsel and the attorney’s are reviewing retiree documents at this time. It is uncertain at this time what legal action can or may be taken. What we do know is that we will require additional members and additional funds if the attorneys determine that we should proceed.

The time for action is NOW. Make the call or check the Internet to learn more about RBPA today! You’ll be glad you made this investment to help preserve your hard-earned retiree benefits.

SCHOLARSHIP CORNER

Scholarships For Our Future Leaders

SCHOLARSHIP DONORS May – August 2007

Durnal, Dwight Carney, Jim Schaeffer, Leonora

Scholarship Donations It is the beginning of a new regime of officers with the Retiree’s Club for the 2007/2008 budget year and our key club objective remains, the goal of funding scholarships for grandchildren of the membership. We are beginning this current cycle with few left over funds in the scholarship fund and we will be counting on the membership to be generous in their support of these students who want to achieve a higher education. To donate to the scholarship fund all you need to do is check the box on the renewal form when you renew your membership and add an additional amount to your check. Due to membership generosity the club has provided scholarships over the past four years to twenty one deserving grandchildren. It is important to note that these scholarships are totally funded by the membership without support from any other source. Please give generously to this important club project when you renew your membership. Phil McNett Scholarship Chair ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

2 July 2007 On behalf of the University of Arizona, please accept this letter as an expression of our sincere gratitude for your check in the amount of $1000. As requested, the scholarship will be awarded to Jordan E. Windle. Your support continues to play a vital role in the lives of students at the University of Arizona and your generosity is deeply appreciated. If I can be of assistance in any way, please contact me at 520-621-1029 or by email at [email protected]. Thank you again.

Former Chairman and CEO Bob Galvin honored for more than 50 years of

service to Motorola

Motorola has recognized Bob Galvin, former chairman and chief executive officer, with a bronze plaque commemorating his outstanding leadership in shaping Motorola as a global competitor and world-class brand. On 26 June, CEO Ed Zander unveiled the plaque and dedicated it to Bob. It is installed in the corporate tower, near a plaque honoring Paul Galvin, Bob's father and founder of Motorola.

Bob was named president of Motorola in 1956 and led as chief executive officer from 1959 until January 1990. He then served as chairman of the executive committee. He retired from the Motorola Board of Directors in May 2001 but remains involved as an informal advisor and ambassador for our company.

Bob's experience, knowledge and wisdom have advanced government, industry and academia alike. His constant respect for people and uncompromising integrity created a legacy of Motorola innovation and creativity that is still prevalent today. Bob is truly a visionary leader and an inspiration to all Motorolans.
