March 2016 Volume Issue

Spring is here MGS Families!

“March winds and April showers bring forth May flowers!”

Well, as winter lingers for a little while longer, I say, “Bring on the flowers and the sunshine!”

I trust that all our families enjoyed a well-deserved week of family time during March break

and that springing forward, we are enjoying the longer days and beautiful sunshine despite

good old Jack Frost staying a little longer that most of us anticipated!

What a great month for VCN’s at MGS! As part of our enriching Technology program here at

MGS, many of our students have had the absolute pleasure of travelling around the world

through our Video Conferencing Network programming that Ms. Cristina Gonzalez supports

during her classes. Believe it or not, this month alone our students have learned about polar

bears in Alaska, visited Ghana and experienced a little bit of the African culture, stopped in

Minnesota to see wolf pubs up close and took a closer look at Thailand and all its marvels.

What a unique opportunity for all our students to travel around the world gaining knowledge

and such unique experiences in the comfort of their very own classroom! These opportunities

are priceless!

On March 14th , our grade 5/6 class and grade 6 students and their teachers packed up their

ski gear and headed to Bromont to ski for the day, Some avid skiers and some not, yet a great

day had by all! I enjoyed hearing all about their escapades on the slops upon their return.

Carnival day on March 16th was yet another treat for our students as Mme. Maryse Pelletier

and her Grade 6 crew worked together to create a winter wonderland of games and activities

outside for all to enjoy. A great big thank to Mme. Maryse for organizing this event and to our

PPO for providing hot chocolate as students came in from their activities!

April is just around the corner and I look forward to welcoming the month with a little more

sunshine and a little less cold!

Kindest regards,

Lynn Harkness

Morning & Afternoon Safety

We ask parents who are dropping off or picking up students by vehicle not to park in the front of the

school or by the gate when the students are getting on or off the busses, in the morning or that the end

of the day. This is a very dangerous practice which could result in a tragedy. We would also like to remind parents that morning supervision does not begin until 8:20. Students should not be in the

playground before this time. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. As well, we ask that all

students who are being picked up please be accompanied by a guardian when they are walking

through the parking lot.

What causes cavities?

Whenever children eat sweet food or drink sweet liquids or

solid, liquid particles remain on and between their teeth.

If these particles aren’t removed by brushing and flossing, the

bacteria’s in the mouth transform the sugar into acids.

These acids attack the tooth enamel and over time create a

cavity.

Therefore brushing twice a day, flossing and eating good

healthy snacks can prevent cavities.
