work, or study for tests. We will also continue to offer our after school tutorial program, SLAM, but morning tutorials provides another opportunity for students to receive aca-demic support. Finally, with all of the chang-es and the moving targets that our school districts are required to meet, we want you as parents to know our high expectations and ex-actly what your children are learning at PJH. As we begin the year, our focus is to continually im-prove. We will challenge your children every day at PJH. We only ask that you support, encourage, moti-vate, and even inquire if you have questions or concerns. Sincerely, Stephen Long Stephen Long Principal, PJH
Dear Parents and Students, I want to WELCOME you back from what I hope was a great summer break. We have got-ten off to a great start and we are looking forward to a fabu-lous year here at PJH. We received information about our accountability distinctions and earned one distinction in the area of Academic Achieve-ment in Math. We also re-ceived a rating of “Met Stand-ard” for the 2016-17 school year. We are so proud of the work of the students, support of our parents, and the dedica-tion of our teachers. Nothing is impossible when we are all working together.
This school year, we will continue to
have a Nine Week grading period, with Progress Re-ports going out after each 3 weeks. Our grading policy will remain the same. Tests grades will count for 60% of the nine weeks’ grade, and homework 40%. There will be no nine weeks’ tests, but we will still have semester exams. Each nine weeks will be worth 40% and the se-mester exams 20%. Our students will need to be pre-pared for their exams in or-der to have successful nine weeks. We will continue to offer morning tutorials. Students can go to teacher’s class-rooms from 7:45-8:05 to receive assistance with as-signments, work on home-

opportuni-
ties for students to become in-

to strengthen social skills and get
better grades. Just a few clubs and
organizations at PJH include Art
Club, Builder’s Club, Robotics,
Sister 2 Sister, Student Council,
Spanish Club, Jr. FFA, Brothers’
Unlimited, UIL, and Athletics.
Students who are interested in
becoming a part of any of these
organizations should contact a club
sponsor and listen to morning an-

Student Drop Off
The designated area for parents to
drop off students upon arriving at
school is in the parking lot on the
east side of the campus. The drive-
way in front of the cafeteria
(Jefferson Rd. side) is reserved for
buses. In order to provide a safe
drop off for bus students, we ask that
parents who drop off students in the
morning use the designated area.
Contact Information
It is important for our school to have
your current contact information.
Should your phone number or ad-
dress change at any time during the
year, send a note with the new infor-
mation.
Student Planners &
Library Cards
In an attempt to teach organizational
skills, PJH students are required to
purchase and use the PJH student
planner. Planner checks will be
done on the first day of the week,
but will be used on a
daily basis in classes.
Students will have a li-
brary sticker inside the
planner to use when checking
out books from the library.
Students will visit the library
during Literature classes in the
next couple of weeks.
Wildcat Stadium Policy
Please be aware of Paris ISD’s
policy for students during foot-
ball games. Hi-lights of the
policy are listed below.
Students below 7th grade
are not permitted to attend
the game without an adult.
All students will receive a
wristband that they are
required to wear for the
duration of the game.
Students may either 1) sit
with an adult OR 2) sit in
the designated student sec-
tion. Students who are
sitting in the student section
are permitted to leave the
area two times.
Students must have trans-
portation from the stadium
within 30 minutes of the
conclusion of the game.
Cell Phone Policy
Please make sure that your child
understands our cell phone poli-
cy. Cell phones must be turned
off and out of sight during
school hours. Students who use
cell phones without permission
will have the phone confiscated
and the parent can pick up the
phone after 3:35 pm for a $15
fee. If you need to contact your
child, please call our office and
we will gladly get a message to
your child.

begin on Wednesday, September 6. SLAM will be offered each Monday and
Wednesday from 3:45-4:30. Any student needing help in any core subject
(Reading, English, Math, Science, and/or Social Studies) may voluntarily
attend on an as-needed basis. Teachers can also require students to attend if
the student’s average for that class is below passing or the student has missing
assignments. Students may also be required to attend SLAM as an interven-
tion measure for a particular subject. Parents will be notified if a student is
required to attend. Snacks and transportation are provided. For more infor-
mation, contact your child’s teacher or Mrs. Ackley.
