Game time is 7:30 PM. “Taft is a team that likes to spread the field and get their athletes into open spaces and make us defend them from sideline to sideline,” said head coach Danny Rogers, whose Panthers undefeated on the season at 11—0. Their opponent is good. The Greyhounds are 10—1 on the year, the only blemish on their record a 41—0 loss to Odem on October 23. They are coming off a 48—27 win over Freer in their Bi-District contest. The Panthers earned their way to the Area contest with an 18—7 win over Van Vleck last Friday night at Yoakum. “Our win over Van Vleck turned out to be a very hard hit- ting and exciting football game,” said Rogers. “They used their size and speed to their advantage by limiting us to only 18 points.” “They were a good football team and a tough matchup for us both offensively and defensively. Once we adjusted to their speed and calmed down after their touchdown we set- tled down and played a lot better.” Rogers is looking forward to tonight’s game. “We are very excited to be in the second round of the playoffs and to play at the new venue in Gustafson Stadium where we never have played,” he said. “Winning in the playoffs is a team goal of ours and we were fortunate enough to have achieved that goal last week.” “Our next goal is to play during the Thanksgiving Holidays, and if we are fortunate enough to win tonight we will have met another goal that not many teams get to do.” “Please come out tonight and support your Panthers as we try to move our rec- ord to 12—0.” “Go Blanco!” KVUE TV’s Friday Night Fever Most playoff wins in 26 years of FFF Westlake 65 Wimberley 41 Lake Travis 38 Blanco 36 Schulenburg 35 Shiner 36 Liberty Hill 32 Thorndale 31 Bartlett 30 LaGrange 30 Cameron Yoe 20 Cedar Park 24 Lexington 22 Hays 20

As part of our effort to reduce substance abuse by our young peo-ple, The Bell will be running Public Service Announcements each week to educate students and parents in regards to substance abuse. Today’s information comes from the Hays Caldwell Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, a coalition partner of Blanco ISD.

Hays Caldwell Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse Offers Help

Most people who get into and remain in treatment stop using drugs, decrease their criminal activity, and im-prove their occupational, social, and psychological func-tioning.

Nearly one-third of treatment clients achieve abstinence from their first treatment attempt.

Life Skills Training prevention programs produce 50%-87% lower levels of tobacco, alcohol, and marijuana use.

Substance abuse services actually save taxpayers money through multiple cost offsets such as reduced truancy, crime, incarceration, court costs, domestic violence, poverty, homelessness, and health care utilization.

A variety of national studies conservatively place the rate of return for treatment expenditures at approximate-ly 7 to 1.

Texas Perspectives, an economic analysis firm, esti-mates the return for prevention services in Texas at 5 to 1.

TDCJ expenditures for the Treatment Alternatives to Incarceration Program (TAIP) returned $2.86 in reduced recidivism costs for every $1 invested.
