Visiting Rotarians were Joe Joyce from Thousand Oaks Sunrise; Tom Ligave from Carpinteria; and Monica McDade and Jane Netherton from the Long Beach club. Our guests were Ernie Sandlin, guest of Jere Robings; Cynder Niemela, guest of K.T. Guest Rotarians Monica McDade and Jane Netherton came forward and exchanged club flags with President Susan Murata.

Susan asked us to please keep Hugo Roche's wife, Eleanor in our thoughts and prayers; she has taken a turn for the worse. On another note, she noted that Dan Overton is home with a bad cold.

Susan pointed out that we were given table assignments in response to member surveys to mix up our seating sometimes. On the tables are results of the member survey and suggestions. She also issued a reminder to red-badgers: April 13th is the District Assembly in Oxnard, a good opportunity to meet one of the requirements for membership.

Happy $$$ (Jeff Matson carried the cup.)

Keith Parks said that his daughter, Ashley, had her presentation before the doctoral board, and will be receiving her PhD in chemistry from Duke in one month.

Lois Curran-Klein pointed out the flyers for the Westlake Village Garden Club’s tour of gardens on May 5th. They deliberately changed the date this year--so as not to conflict with our Chili Cookoff and Lois’ duties there, so that Lois could be the chairman of the Tour the following week.

Steve Pederson (1) spent a week at spring training in Arizona. (2) He seems to be the only golfer who was kicked out of the golfing table to a new table today, but the silver lining is that he is sitting with nice young ladies. (3) He and Pat McCoy, Cal Henry and Robert Bianchi played golf yesterday, and $30 that they contributed goes into the cup today. (4) Fellow Minnesotan, Dick Winchester, foolishly bet on UCLA in the NCAA basketball tournament, and the winnings of that bet are also going into the cup.

Cal Henry said that the $30 Steve thought he won was for the Shot of the Day--which he really didn’t get. The money he received was really a refund of overpayment of the entrance fees. Cal thanked Steve for giving even that to the Happy Dollars cup!

Carol Freeman asked those who took Chili tickets last week to tear into strips, please return them to her if you haven’t already done so.

Matt Morrison said they had a really nice fellowship at the bowling alley last night, celebrating Joani’s birthday. They bowled against the Rotary team - and killed them.

Dave Burns shouted that Matt’ s team must have cheated.

Haider Alawami (contributing his first happy dollar ever) said that the Civic Arts Plaza is celebrating its first 20 years, and are asking us to respond to a survey about the shows. Please go to www.surveymonkey.com/s/tocap_20 for the survey.

Bob Biery and wife Patty are celebrating their 40th anniversary.

Visiting Rotarian Joe Joyce (1) thanked us for making him feel welcome and he loves coming here for lunch; (2) he just found out that Keith Parks is moving--and going to be his neighbor; (3) he thanked Mike Murphy for doing a great job on the vocational projects; (4) new member Natalie Bradley will be helping with the New Generations Symposium at the District Assembly; (5) he has flyers for the Conejo Valley Days kickoff poker tournament fundraiser, proceeds going to Many Mansions, Wednesday, May 1st.

Karen Furnari is celebrating 14 years of wedded bliss with Steve.

Keith Parks pointed out the flyers on the tables for this year’s Midsummer Eve Wine event, Saturday, August 17th, 4:00 – 7:30. The first committee meeting will be next Thursday in this room at 11:30. Anyone wishing to participate please contact Keith.
