Don’t be tardy for the monthly Juggers Party!
Minutes Juggers Meeting of 03-28-2019
The meeting was called to order by President Ryan at 7:30 PM. A moment of silence was held
to remember those Juggers who have passed and those unable to attend.
Attendance: There were 40 members and guests in attendance.
Guests: Ray Frascheri, Bud Custodio, Rob Mihovich, Henry Olsen.
Secretary’s Report: Secretary’s report was accepted as it appeared in the Newsletter.
Treasurer’s Report: Sandy reported a current balance of $6,235.48.
Dues of $40 are NOW LATE. Please pay Sandy at the meeting or mail to her at:
1175 Wilhelmina Way
San Jose, CA 95120-5434
Correspondence: No new correspondence. Previous correspondence from Car Crazy
Productions: For lack of motion to approve, Gary will notify Car Crazy Productions that we will
not be sponsoring their car show this year. After seeing their charitable contributions list from
this year, we may consider it next year.
Committee Reports
History: Sandy reported over 50 Juggers and others attended the memorial to install new
plaques and remember all Juggers who have passed. The ceremony was held at our tree at
the March Meet in Bakersfield Saturday the 9th.
Jim Powers presented information and pictures of the Juggers and others contribution to the
history of Half Moon Bay Drag Strip.
Car Show: Fred indicated there was an extensive list of shows in the Newsletter. Notable
were Gotelli’s last day at the current shop, Goodguys, the South SF Cruise and the Viet Nam
Vets Show in Redwood City.
Picnic: Steve reminded everyone that the annual picnic will be held at Flood Park on the second Saturday in
October, October 12, 2019.
Safety: John indicated that the rules and amendments that are normally on the NHRA members’ website were no
longer there. There are headlines indicating that there are rule amendments as late as March 21, but no access to
them. He now has the 2019 NHRA Rule Book and will be bringing it to each meeting as he has done in the past.
Web Site: Still looking for volunteers to take over and make over the JuggersRacingTeam.com web site. The site
is updated and is a place to access the latest Newsletter each month.
High School Racers: The first Wednesday Night race was March 13 and John Lewis and Larry were there to
help the High School Class racers. We are trying to get 2 Juggers to each Wednesday night race for the rest of
the season to help out. The next race is April 17, and we have that one covered, but any volunteers for future
races should contact Larry Grimes or John.
John reported that the Sonoma Raceway Awards Banquet was held Saturday, March 23. There were about 150
racers in attendance, including 9 Juggers. We presented each of the top 4 High School Class Racers of 2018 with
their trophies and a $50 Visa Gift Card. Winners from 1st to 4th were Bryan Ochoa, Joseph McBurnie, Dominic
Piazza and Ty Kumar. John described the Juggers High School Program to the attendees. He announced the
Juggers Scholarship program for 2019 and our sponsorship of both the tech card drawing and Championship
program sponsorship for 2019.
Club Wear: Eddie encouraged all of us to buy stuff.

Race Report By Dianna Munro
61st Annual March Meet in Bakersfield
It is great to be back in the pits! It has been a wet and
miserable offseason. It was so yucky, I did not think
that March Meet would happen. The Pure Adrenaline
team left from the various starting points to meet up at
the hallowed parking lot of Famoso Raceway. Boy did
we drive through some weather but everyone made it
there safely.
Now a recap of the weekend. Lots of people attended
the event even with the threat of bad weather. Some
did well and some did not. Some were there for the first
time and some were there for the umpteenth time.
There were lots and lots of Juggers present all
weekend long. The only time I remember seeing that
many Juggers in one spot is at the Juggers picnic.
Sandy was making a list of all the Juggers that she saw
at the Meet, it was a long list. I saw a few cars while I
was at the line, the Chrysler Boys, Steve Galileo,
Boots, Gary Luck, Jerry Buckley and Boyd with his
crew. There were some first timers there too, Weasel,
Rob and my sister Michelle came to enjoy the
experience!
We had high points and low points. Let’s get rid of the
low points for the weekend, the first run on Thursday
Pure Adrenaline pulled up to the line, did a monster
burn out, left the line and complete what looked to be a
decent run. When we picked Gary up at the top end he
said he had to get out of it because he saw SPARKS
out the pipes. We were done! Done for the weekend. It
was so sad on the first pass of the weekend.
Now some high points, Gary Luck has a new race car!
It is called Legal Addiction! He and his crew (family)
looked very good in there matching uniforms! It was
great to see Helga at the track rooting on the team.
One of my personal highlights from the weekend was
when Marth and Steve presented me with a ONE OF A
KIND picture, illustrated by a DISNEY IMAGINEER. It
shows me as my favorite Disney Princess, Princess
Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty) doing one of my favorite
things, keeping Champ cool in his Pure Adrenaline
beast. It also commemorates my favorite question, “Do
you know who I am?” Answer: I’m Gary Ryan’s
Umbrella Chick! When I opened this beautiful gift, I was
freakin’ SPEECHLESS! How incredibly thoughtful of
Martha to have one of her buddies at Disney turn a
picture of me having a great time into something so
AMAZING! I couldn’t hold back the tears! I took my
priceless masterpiece to my motel to keep it safe. I
figured I better take a picture so that I could show it off.
I loved the pretty glare which looked like it was
heavenly shine but then I saw the creepy part, a
reflection of my face showed up in the clouds...
I spent a lot of time checking out the scenery and
watching cars go down the track. It had been a long
time since I was a spectator at March Meet. It was a
pretty strange feeling. We shopped, ate and did out
best to stay hydrated, and it might not have been
water.....
One of the high points of the weekend came when my
daughter, Jessica, got a call and was asked to be a
BUG (Back Up Girl) for the NHRA Funny Car
Champion, Ron Capps! I was not there when she
answered the phone, but I was told she came out of
her skin with excitement and could not jumped a good
3 feet in the air and levitated all the way to the lanes.
Later that afternoon, there was the meeting at the
Juggers’ tree, the tallest tree in the grove. The turn out
at the tree was huge! Many Juggers from all around
came to pay respects to the people that had recently
past and had their names added to the post.
Then came Sunday, it just seemed this March Meet
was pretty harsh on equipment for all of people not just
our team. The picture below shows what happens
when it is just not your day to win. This guy was in the
semis, ( I think)did a burn out and had his steering
wheel break off.
After everyone helped to pack up Pure Adrenaline
Michelle and I decided to head home. We were getting
play by play commentating from Jessica since Terry
Lindblad was still in the competition. We were super
thrilled when we heard that Terry was going to the
finals! Michelle started searching the internet to see if
any one was posting feeds from the track because we
were super bummed that we had not stayed. She
found that Facebook LIVE was live streaming the final
rounds! We listened as Terry Lindblad was crowed
2019 March Meet CHAMPION!!!! Congratulations to
the entire KLM team!
March 30 & 31 Sonoma Raceway
I did not get to attend this but I heard through the grapevine that Juggers were taken home trophies on both days.
Boots was the BIG Winner! Boots won C Gas on Saturday and in D Gas, Dan Ficher was the man to beat. Then
Sunday Boot won C Gas AGAIN, Steve Galileo was runner in Top Sportsmen, and Harold Binsfeld won D Gas.
April 6 & 7 Sacramento Funny Car Fever
This was a weekend of firsts, my best friend raced his very first race, and it was the first time for Mother and Daughter
Back Up Girls (BUGs). Since Pure Adrenaline was still getting her insides repaired I was not on duty for the weekend.
That worked out for me because my best friend just bought a wingless sprint car and was making his rookie debut at
Antioch Speedway. I drove to Antioch and watched him do pretty darn well. He finished the main, did not get lapped,
did not finish last and actually got paid. What a great way to finish his very first race! Sunday I got up early and went to
the track to say congratulations to the March Meet Champ! The KLM team, Bad Moon Rising team, Dan Ficher, and I
heard Boots was there as well. March Meet Champion, Terry Lindblad got paired up with his life long buddy Jeff
Brochheuser in the first round, what a way to have to send your buddy home first round. As Jessica was getting Jeff
strapped in for the run Marlin Keller asked me to back up Terry. I was excited to participate but was not quite prepared.
I made sure my shoes were tied tight with double knots but I should have made sure I was wearing a belt but more
about that later. In cars it was buddy vs buddy and on the track it was mother vs daughter BUGin’. We were down
there waiting for our perspective cars to come to the line and we were talking plenty of smack. After monster burnouts
there we were, backin’ up life long buddies going head to head to get to the next round. We were running back, arm in
the air, guiding the drivers back, everything was going well.... Well my shoes were staying on, but my pants were not.
After every step my pants went South, I tried to pretend it wasn’t happening but it soon felt like I was gonna lose them.
I reached down, grabbed what I thought was my jeans and pulled it up.... it was not my jeans and it felt like I had a half
a wedgie. The cars were ready to stage. Just in time... They staged and Jeff left just a little early. Terry was going to
the next round and I was getting a belt! Terry did not get past the second round, I think Dan Ficher lost in the second
round. I think the top Jugger was Boots who went to the Semis.
Until next time, keep the rubber side down and GO ON YELLOW!!!
