Greetings fellow GMAC members.
I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday season and found
some time to enjoy family and friends. Our chapter is beginning
2013 with a flurry of exciting activities. Kathryn Roberts, AACN
president, will be visiting Milwaukee on Thursday, February 7 to
present her “Dare To” theme. This is an amazing opportunity to
hear our national president and participate in a “meet and
greet” session. GMAC is co-sponsoring Kathryn’s visit with Chil-
dren’s Hospital of Wisconsin. I hope to see you there. Please
see the attached flyer for details.
Our second annual professional networking night will
take place on Monday, March 18 at Columbia St.
Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee. I invite you to attend and
support our local nursing students. Thanks to Kathy Ep-
ping and her team for organizing this very worthwhile
event.
It is truly inspirational to belong to a
chapter like GMAC. You are all so tal-
ented and creative. The beginning of
the New Year is a perfect time to re-
flect on the dares we made to ourselves back in September. Have we successfully
met the challenges that we set? What else do we dare to accomplish in the remain-
der of this chapter year – certification, increased involvement in chapter leadership,
participation in chapter sponsored events, learning a new skill or increasing our
knowledge, or actively role modeling excellence in critical care nursing in our work-
places? I encourage each of you to stretch your-
selves and find out what you are already so capa-
ble of achieving. What is your passion? Be proud of
all that you have accomplished both as individuals
and as a chapter.
I look forward to spending time with all of you at
the many professional gatherings we have planned
for the second half of this chapter year.

NTI is fast approaching and February repre-
sents your last opportunity to gain an entry
into the GMAC NTI Scholarship drawing.
There are multiple ways to increase your
odds of being selected for the scholarship
during the next few weeks. You may gain
an additional entry by attending Kathryn
Roberts’ “DARE To…” presentation on Feb-
ruary 7th. You may also participate at our
next Educational Meeting on February 13th
by sharing your own DARE To and/or wear-
ing Red to raise awareness for Heart Disease.
On behalf of the board I would like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who
donated at our last educational meeting. It is the thought and caring behind giving
that makes it so meaningful and this outreach reminded me how wonderful our
members truly are. We were able to collect 28pounds of food for the Hunger Task
Force and give a monetary donation to Growing Power’s Vertical Farm Project. Thank
you again.
Finally, as I mentioned in the Monitor previously Growing Power has several volunteer
opportunities at the urban farm in Milwaukee. Volunteer orientation is held on Satur-
days at 10:00am. Orientation takes about 30minutes and you can stay and start
working right away or come back another time to volunteer. Once orientated, you can
volunteer at any time. Volunteers are welcome Tuesday through Saturday, 9am-4pm, except during work-
shops.
In the spirit of our GMAC 2012-2013 Outreach Project, I will be coordinating a few opportunities for mem-
bers to spend a Saturday morning together orientating to and volunteering at the urban farm.
Dates are:
Saturday, March 23rd
Saturday, April 6th
Saturday, May 4th
All dates will begin with a 10am orientation.
If you are interested please let me know at angelinak-
[email protected] so I can determine the approximate
size of the group and notify the staff at the farm. Inter-
ested members will receive additional information and
directions to the site.
Please join us and DARE to grow in community and
friendship.
DARE TO … Grow — Angelina Kinter

Nursing Certification. What is it? It is based on predetermined standards. It recognizes
skills, knowledge and abilities beyond the scope of RN licensure. It is a validation of an indi-
vidual nurse’s qualifications for practice in a defined area. It tests a broad base of knowledge in our chosen spe-
cialty. It is one of the most frightening tests we DARE TO… TAKE! We Dream of passing the exam, Act by studying,
Change our concept of our ability to master it and Lead by taking it and then encouraging others to have the thrill of
victory! There are numerous certifications for nursing. This chapter would like to acknowledge the many members
who are certified through AACN.
March 19th is Certified Nurses Day as established by the American Nurses Creden-
tialing Center
As of January 2012 there are 59,369 CCRN’s in the United States-767 in Wisconsin.
Forty-six of them are active chapter members. We have one of the 21 certified CSC
nurses.
2013 GMAC Certified Nurses as of 1/20/2013 on the AACN chapter website.
As of January 2012, there are 8,061 PCCN’s in the United States-89 in Wis-
consin. Four are active chapter members.
Thank you ALL for having the courage To DARE.
If your name is here and you are certified, please update your status on
AACN’s site.

The nomination committee is accepting candidates to fill the positions of
President-Elect, Vice President-Elect, Treasurer, Treasurer-Elect, Secretary
and Member-at Large for fiscal year 2013-2014 (July-June). The Elect
positions are a two year commitment. During your elect year your will be
mentored in the responsibilities of the position. Then for 2013-2014 you
take on the full responsibilities while mentoring your successor. AACN
chapter service is a rewarding experience we hope you decide to pursue.
Member–at–Large is a one year commitment. The Chapter also supports
the unelected position of Board Learning Partner.
Attached with this newsletter and available on our Chapter website is the
nomination form. You can nominate yourself or another Chapter mem-
ber. If nominating someone else, the nominating committee will contact
that person to let them know they have been nominated and ask if they
are willing to serve. We will accept nominations by e-mail. All candidates
must sign the willingness to serve form to be entered on the ballot. All
candidates must be National AACN and Chapter members.
The Nomination committee will request some information from the candi-
dates to present on the ballot to the chapter membership. If you would like more details about the responsibili-
ties of the positions do not hesitate to contact the current officers. They can be contacted through the Chapter
website listed on this newsletter. Nomination must be received by January 31st.
The earlier, the better for the nomination committee and the candidates to prepare the information for the ballot.
Once the ballot is sent out, members have 14 days to vote. We hope to announce the selected candidates at the
February 13th general meeting. This is your opportunity to Dare to Dream, Act, Lead and Change. It all starts with
your single step.
Interest income this quarter, on the above total, was about
$13.00. Main income was obtained from membership dues,
guest fees, fund raising (Growing Power). Main expenses
were related to educational programs (CNEs; speaker fees)
except for $100 that the chapter donated to a national AACN
scholarship fund.
Although deposits and withdrawals were limited, I have been
busy preparing the necessary forms to submit to the national
office quarterly (AACN forms; IRS forms; bank statements). These are required by national in order for us to remain
a tax exempt organization – and they file all the tax statements
(thank goodness). It is because of the federal tax regulations that
the chapter is so diligent in obtaining check request forms, and
forms indicating cash receipts and cash deposits. Thanks to all
members for completing all this time consuming paperwork!!
