As an organisation grows in size and employs more and more workers, the
issue of occupational safety and health becomes a more pressing issue that
needs to be urgently addressed. Accidents in the workplace and prolongedsick leaves taken by employees can severely disrupt the operations of an
organisation. There has been increased awareness in OSH issues over the
past few years and companies in Malaysia are beginning to acknowledge
OSH as a key determinant of competitiveness through reduced safety and
health risks, which in turn results in higher productivity and profitability.
However, many also find themselves confronted with the problem of putting
this significant philosophy into practice at the workplace. This problem
arises as most companies lack the knowledge, manpower, expertise and
financial resources to meet the OSH standards as stipulated in the
Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA).1994 (Act 514), which formsthe legislative framework for OSH in Malaysia.

faktor penyebab seperti :
* Ketegangan
Keadaan ini terdedah kepada sesiapa sahaja terutamanya lelaki. Mereka yang
tidak bijak mengurus dan mengendali masalah akan terdedah kepada sakitkepala jenis ini.
* Pengambilan Ubat-Ubatan
mata kira-kira setengah jam.
Sebahagian besar sakit kepala berpunca
daripada tekanan dan gangguan perasaan.

What is SLE?
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, auto-immune disease of unknown cause where the patients body makes
large quantities of blood proteins called anti-bodies that react against the persons own tissues.
History
Lupus is the Latin word for wolf. Erythematosus means red rashes. In 1851, Dr. Cazenave discovered red rashes on a
patients face that looked like wolf bites. He named the rash Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE).
In 1885, Sir William Osler recognised that many people with lupus had a disease involving not only the skin but many other
organs or systems. He named the disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE).
Types of Lupus
Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE) Only involves the skin
Rarely spreads to other organs
Systematic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
Can spread to other organs
Can be fatal
Statistics
About 90% of SLE sufferers are women while about 10% are men and children.
About 90% of women with SLE are in their childbearing years, within the range of 15 to 50 years old.
Ratio of SLE sufferers :
In the West, among Afro-Carribeans 1 in 250-500 people
USA 1 in 2,000 people
China 1 in 1,000 people
In Malaysia, it is estimated that more than 10,000 people have been diagnosed with SLE over the past 30 years. However, this
number may be only the tip of the iceberg. The Malaysian SLE Association believes that there are many more SLE sufferers in
Malaysia who have not been diagnosed.

NIOSH Updates : Volume 4, Number 18, 2011OSH INFO:
What is the biggest problem with SLE?
Symptoms of SLE may mimic the symptoms of other diseases. The main problem is that damage to the kidneys or bone
marrow can go undetected until the later stages.
Why do doctors find it hard to diagnose SLE?
In the early stages of SLE, there may be only one or two visible symptoms causing the disease to be diagnosed after many
weeks, months, or even years.
Why do some patients suffer only mild effects of SLE while for other patients, it could be so bad that it becomes
fatal?
No one knows. Some patients produce antinuclear antibodies (ANA) in their blood. There are many types of ANA, some attack
the kidneys and brain. However, whether their condition is serious or not, it is important for patients to obey their doctor and
especially during flares. It is also possible that patients with milder symptoms may suffer more serious symptoms later.
Is there a cure for Lupus?
Presently, Lupus can only be controlled, not cured. Treatment varies depending on the patient. Patients with milder symptoms
like joint pain, rashes, fever and fatigue require different treatment compared with patients with more serious conditions. We
are glad that there are more treatment options now than there were 20 years ago.
What does remission in Lupus mean?
This means there are no more flares and only minimal treatment is needed.

NIOSH Updates : Volume 4, Number 18, 2011BOOK REVIEW:
Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Moving from theory into practical reality, ergonomics has come of age as a useful tool for
generating safe, comfortable, and productive working environments. Tackling both the simple and
complex aspects of a variety of workplaces, Office Ergonomics: Practical Applications
demonstrates how to create offices that accommodate all workers. The book contains practical
advice on how to maintain an office environment that promotes a healthy, safe, and efficient
workforce.
Covering workstation design, selection, layout, and use, the book details the impact of computerson worker well-being, particularly when used under unfavorable conditions, and discusses how
ergonomics can accommodate disabled workers. The author emphasizes the need to offer
protection to people involved in manual handling in offices, an issue that is frequently overlooked,
and offers advice on how to work satisfactorily in non-office environments. She explores the
possible negative outcomes, such as back pain, headaches, and upper limb disorders, of a poorly
designed workstation.
Walking you through all the features of an office, the book provides insight into the potential
problem areas that workers often encounter. The book explains how to identify suitable
workstation furniture, test it, trial it, and introduce the final selection so the workforce accepts it.The author draws on first-hand experience dealing with difficulties in many types of office
situations to provide straightforward, easily applicable advice on how to improve the workplace to
reduce the likelihood of workers experiencing discomfort, ill-health, and dissatisfaction.
