AUGUST In August the “Bees” all swarmed to Capitol Reef to make their week long hive in Wonderland RV Park, Torry, Utah. Host Bees for the week were Dean and Dawn Callister and Bill and Jeri Finch. We enjoyed a potluck dinner Saturday night and attended Church on Sunday in Torry.

Monday we toured part of Capitol Reef but had some restric-tions due to Flash Flood Warnings. We all stopped at the Pio-neer Gifford house for a tour and home made Fruit pies. BEES LOVE SWEETS!!! We also had a picnic in the park.

Tuesday we gathered with our Queen Bee, Dawn Callister and her worker Bees for an “Omelet in a Bag Breakfast”…YUM. After breakfast some of the Bees took off on their ATV’s and went to a lake to fish. Our guest Ron caught one fish. They all “caught” downpours of rain, returning in the early evening with their wings and everything else cover with mud. The remaining Bees spent the day on a drive to Fish Lake and surrounding areas. We stopped for a late Mexican lunch at the General Store (restaurant in the back).

Wednesday we all made a Beeline for Boulder Mountain stop-ping to visit the Anasazi Indian Park Museum. Most of the Bees contributed to the economy there in the gift shop. Then on to the Burr trail stopping at the Boulder Mesa Restaurant for Lunch. The Bees then flew on to tour part of the Escalante Stairway.

Thursday it poured rain the entire day so the Bees stayed in their hives. That night it did clear up and we had a weenie roast and toasted S’mores and buzzed around the campfire.

Friday a lot of the Bees headed for home due to other commit-ments. Early morning Friday, four of us, Carla Turner, Bill and Jeri Finch and Deanna went into the park and hiked up to Hick-man Bridge. (Gee we are not as young as we used to be… we had Bee knees part of the time). That night we all attended a Forest Ranger lecture on the Mountain Goats.

Saturday morning we all swarmed home. Thanks to our head Bees for a great camp!

SEPTEMBER “Leaf” Your Routine And “Fall” into our camp was our theme for September at the Golden Spike RV Park in Brigham City hosted by Peggy and Dick Anderson and Deanna and Warren Grimsrud. Wednesday Deanna and Warren arrived early to visit the Golden Spike National Monument at Promontory Point. We found it very interesting. It is amazing that we have lived in Utah a good part of our married life and have never visited the site. The rest of our Bees had been there before. That night we all played card games…Ripple seems to be a Beehive favorite. Thursday morning some went golfing, some went to the Brig-ham City

Temple open house, and some stayed in their hives. At noon we all went to lunch at the Idle Isle Cafe. Dinner that night was pot-luck followed by listening to Legends and Stories of Brigham area by Janine Nishiguchi, professional storyteller and a friend of Deanna’s. After that we had a great time “Horse Racing” with tootsie rolls. Bernie and Lee Maye Voorhees, our guests, ran the horse race. Can’t you just picture Bees placing their bets? Lee May also taught us how to make 321 cake which we all enjoyed eating. Bees can’t live without sweets.

Friday afternoon we played more games. Dinner found us at the Maddox Restaurant for a delicious meal; we even got honey but-ter!! That evening we attended the live play Willey Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the Perry Heritage Theater. It was a great performance. They even had a golden ticket in one of the choco-late bars, which was found by one of the boys in the audience.

OCTOBER

TRADITION! TRADITION! Just like Tavia in Fiddler on the Roof says, we also have a Tradi-tion…. to always camp in October at the East Bay RV Camp-ground in Springville. Eleven rigs attended with 2 couples driving down for the business meeting and potluck on Friday. Some golfed and some quilted to filled the time. Thirty quilts were finished and ready for delivery. Pat Thomson took the quilts to add the labels and then they will be delivered to the Ronald McDonald house. Drawings for next years hosting of each month were conducted for camps from April to October and the luncheon meetings dur-ing the winter months. Elections were held for the Wagon mas-ter. Dean Callister agreed to take over the assignment. Newly elected Secretary is Joann Barlow. We give many thanks to Arlene Stringham for the great job she did as Secretary for 4 years. Peggy Anderson was elected as Vice President.

AUGUST

Lutherwood: We had 21 members for our Social hour which included two prospective members and four guests. Bob and Joyce Clarke shared their home grown bounty with us, plenty of grapes, pears, peaches, and plums. Thanks so much, Bob and Joyce. Yum! Yum!

After a little rain several of us sat around the campfire and en-joyed watching the deer come to the water to romp and play. Barbara Moran’s smart little dog, “Dana”, locked her out of her motor home, which took several hours for a locksmith to arrive and fix the problem. All turned out well. Our Saturday morning breakfast was prepared by Bob Nissalki and Stan Rowsell, while others provided fried spam and eggs. A good combination. We had one couple as prospective members, Vern and Dottie Ratzlaff.

SEPTEMBER

Zions National Park: This campout was our steak fry, and al-though there was not a large group we had a wonderful time. Games of Mexican Train and washer toss were played. Myra Nicolas taught some of the ladies how to crochet very pretty necklaces. However, this reporter failed to master the task.

A few couples took in the Ranger’s Fireside Program and en-joyed it. The fall colors are not at their peak, but as Tony Del Prete stated, “It was a great campout in a great place”. It was a little warm during the day, but perfect in the evening for sitting around the campfire while Harold and Dee Jones prepared bites of roasted wieners for us to eat.

For our Friday steak fry each one brought something to go with the meat, and it was a very good feast. Two ladies drove up for the meeting, Barbara Moran a member and Diane Cleaver a spe-cial friend.

OCTOBER

Littlefield,AZ:This campout was a fun time with 26 members and two guests, Vern and Dottie Ratzlaff, who was voted in as new members, this being their third time in attendance.

Out hosts were Bob and June Nissalki assisted by their dauther Char and granddaughter Emily.

Each evening we sat around the campfire and visited, ate s’mores, and sang. Dottie, (our new member) played the guitar and led us in songs with everal old time lyrics with her delightful voice. We have several good vocalists in our group, it was nice to sit and listen to the harmony. The birds in the tree’s and the rabbits in the bushes realize the Color Country Ramblers are back again.

The Nissalki’s provided all the materials for the ladies to make adorable snowmen, which took two days to finish. It was a fun time of laughter even though many of us burned our fingers with the glue guns.

All the meals provided were delicious, the tables decorated in fall colors were a delight to our eyes and every chair was filled.

Our breakfast was cooked and served by Bob Nissalki, and his son-in-law, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army.

The peach pancakes along with all the trimmings, were very yummy. During our meeting we were very sad to learn two of our members had passed away, Donna Garrett and Gary Harvey. There will surely be blank spaces in our Chapter for a long while.

~Margaret Miller

AUGUST

We met to participate in the Special Olympic Rodeo in Heber City. We camped at the Mecham property in Midway and had an enjoyable time working with and supporting the Special Olym-pics. While there we also help usher at the Mountain Valley Ro-deo both Friday and Saturday nights. We also went to Grey’s River Cove R. V. Park in Alpine, Wyoming. Our hosts were Ron and Lynn Todhunter and Blaine and Sharon Nielsen. While there, we enjoyed the Bar J Wrangler in Jackson Hole and took a tour of the Freedom Arms Gun Plant. We also visited a cabin in Etna and a 101 year old grandfather of one of our members. The cabin was built by the Member’s Great Grandmother and her eleven year old daughter We attended church and had a very enjoyable time.

SEPTEMBER

We attended the fall Tag-a-Long in Delta, UT. It was nice to relax and enjoy one another’s company. The Hosts were Gary and DyAnn Houston and Brent and Jean North. Several mem-bers enjoyed the tour of the area. We participated in crazy golf, regular golf, bean bag baseball and Samgo. Samgo is always fun, but much more fun to win the money. Some of the group at-tended the Fillmore Art Festival. Some enjoyed the tour of Fill-more via the horse drawn wagon. The chapter also helped at the first annual Heber City train pull. Teams of 15 people pulled a 125 ton locomotive engine 30 feet. The winning time was 27.15 seconds. We all enjoyed helping with timing the event and regis-tering the teams.

AUGUST

Our August meeting was held at Mathews Meadows .It was nice, quiet, and fun. We had 20 members and 2 guests. Pam Toll pre-sented us with some information about a veteran’s home that we might consider as our charity this year. We also discussed perhaps serving hot dogs and drinks at R.C. Willeys to bolster our fund. We missed a lot of our members that night. Cindy Burlison, our treasurer, did a great job of conducting the meeting with the ab-sence of our President and Vice President. Everyone brought sal-ads and desserts to compliment a meat tray. It was a very nice campout and dinner meeting.

SEPTEMBER

The Golden Spiker’s met at the Golden Corral in Ogden. We were happy to have one of our lifetime members, Afton Anderson join us. She is recuperating from hip surgery.

President Bill Marsh announced next month we will hold elections for officers and also reminded all that club membership dues are to be paid at that time.

Jim Folsom confirmed our reservation at Mathew Meadows for 2013. The club will camp there on August 5, 6, and 7th

OCTOBER

We met at Moore’s Café for our October meeting. Elections were held and our new club president will be Bob Lansford. Kevin Burlison is the new vice president and Leslie Lansford and Cindy Burlison will stay in their respective jobs as secretary and treasurer.

Club dues were collected from those in attendance. We were sad to tell the rest of our snowbirds members goodbye. Bert, Doc and Barbara are leaving for warmer climates as JoAnne and Emmett already have. We miss these members during the winter and always look forward to seeing them in the spring.

We are all ready to settle in for the cold weather and hope that next year we will enjoy great camping and lower gas prices! ~Leslie Lansford

AUGUST Our destination was Rotary Park up beautiful Hobble Creek, an area we all love and besides that it is a short drive. We en-joyed the surroundings and it is a great spot for dry camping. We spent a lot of time playing Bocce Ball. We had table games going on in the pavilion, also tied 2 humanitarian quilts and of course the guys enjoyed their morning of golf. We went to the Bear Den at the golf course for a great lunch and were sur-prised with a visit of Ron and Ila Brown (former Hobos) who drove up from St.George. President Pink Carter conducted the meeting and welcomed guests Chuck and Debbie Boyack. He read their letter requesting membership in our chapter and later in the meeting they were voted in as our newest members. Gwen Unthank has been our Salty Sam reporter for several years and was released with a vote of thanks for doing a good job at this assignment. Marcella Walker accepted the invitation to replace her. Carol Peterson will be our chapter photogra-pher. There were 6 rigs that committed to going to the Fall-Tag-Along. The Tidwells and Gonzales presented us with the com-pleted booklet they compiled and had printed with our chapter goals and activities to be used in recruiting new members. Great job, you guys! We were sorry to hear that Glade and Bonnie Hilton would not be able to remain in the chapter. We will miss them. We also voted to keep track of our service hours. Our Christmas party and our last camp out of the sum-mer in October was discussed. We thanked the Phillips and Walkers for all their work hosting this camp out. It was FUN, FUN, FUN!!!! SEPTEMBER There were 5 rigs that traveled to Delta for the fall Tag-along. Our group joined in on the games and attended the great enter-tainment. The Happy Hobo golfers were mixed in with other chapters and LeGrande Whatcott ended up on the team that took 1st place. Way to go LeGrande! Our chapter ended up with 1st place on bean bag baseball. At our potluck, we invited 2 other couples to join us and we enjoyed their company and visiting with them. The state served dinner before everyone left for home. (reported by: Pres. Pink Carter) OCTOBER East Bay in Springville is one of our favorite places. Upon arri-val and after setting up, most of us went to Sonic for lunch. We spent a couple of hours sitting around socializing at the park. Happy hour was followed by a couple of bean bag base-ball games with the women against the men. We went to Chuck-a-rama for lunch one day and pot-luck another day fol-lowed by our chapter meeting. President Pink Carter an-nounced that Harold Jacklin would be our state President for 2 moreyears. That was good news. We drew out for next years ,

A very intense puzzle which took three days to complete, we tied 3 more humanitarian quilts and, of course, “happy hour” each evening. One night we played the “Newlywed Game” with lots of surprise answers and another night the “candy bar” game, both very fun group games. Lots of prizes!! We were saddened at the death of Margret and Ben Miller’s daughter, Kris. She had visited several times for an afternoon at our campouts. The Hal-loween decorations were attractive and were enjoyed by every-one. Our hosts were the Millers and Hardmans. They went all out to make it a great time for all.

AUGUST Whooee..August was another hot one.. The constant heat and the breeze was turning the leaves on our maple tree brown, and we looked forward to the opportunity to camp alongside the creek at Blacksmith Fork. We held our meeting in these beautiful

surroundings along with a delicious pot luck dinner. Sharon Wheeler bought fleece for 100 blankets, asked for volunteers to help get them ready to be distributed. Phil Wheeler reminded everyone to keep collecting aluminum cans, for Theo Maisey to sell for recycling. We want to thank Theo for handling this pro-ject over the years. During the month Larry Stimpson made us all happy by arranging for breakfast at Village Inn, and Lucky China for Cook's Night Out. We went to Peterson Park to camp this month. We held Family Home Evening on Monday night. Then during the days, we enjoyed playing games, working on quilts and other projects, took a trip into Tremonton for shop-ping and lunch, and did alot of visiting and relaxing. We also enjoyed our Pot Luck Dinner...we have alot of good cooks! SEPTEMBER Once again, as always, we took another trip to the "wilds" of Blacksmith Fork . Our trips to "Camp Shang-rila" are never long enough or often enough, but we'll take it as often as we can get it. It is the perfect place for being together, having our meetings, enjoying each other's company, and just relaxing and having fun. We had voting for new officers for the chapter, and also a deli-cious dinner of hamburger steaks, corn on the cob, fresh vegeta-bles from our gardens, and watermelon. We also had a Chinese Auction, which was alot of fun. Wheelers reported on their trip to the State Tag-along. They said they had a great time. They have a wonderful facilty there....a big building that is air condi-tioned, and the games and dinner were held there. Also Fillmore Days was held while they were there, with alot going on. Really a nice event all together. During this month we went to Cooks Night Out at Texas Road House, and Maple Gardens. Sharon Wheeler thanked the members of our Chapter for their partici-pation in our projects. We took sweats and underwear to Roy Municipal, Club Heights, and Washington Elementary Schools, and worked on the quilts, and other projects. OCTOBER Our meeting was held at the Golden Corral . Our officers for the coming year were installed by Phil Wheeler as follows: Pres. Bob Seele; Vice Pres. Darwin Brimhall; Sec. Diana Sewell; Treas. Terry Jamison. Ralph Osborne was absent, but will be our new Wagonmaster and will be installed at the next meeting. He pre-pared a four page travel questionnaire for us to fill out and re-turn to him for the purpose of compiling a list of activities we would like to participate in for the coming year, and distances we would like to travel. This gets us all excited for upcoming travel in the next year. We thank Larry Stimpson for being our "chef" for our Cooks Night Out enjoyable times this past year. We are grateful to Theo Maisey for being so dedicated in keeping the 300 West hill clean for so many years, which has enabled us to hold our meetings at the Riverdale Community Center. He has done a wonderful service. We also appreciate Dean Scadden making arrangements for the meetings. We are sad to announce that Colen and Delma Gailey, and Sherm and Beverly Sewell will not be joining our camping group next year. They will surely be missed. Past President Ron Sewell thanked all who have helped make his job as president easier. AUGUST

Our meeting this month was attended by 18 members. It was held at the home of Boyd & Doris Giles. The ladies met early and put on a queen size quilt which we were able to complete tying before the evening was over. A delicious meal was enjoyed by all.

Due to our successful efforts at the Samboree we have been able to make donations to many worthy organizations. This success was due to all our Good Sam friends that supported our booth and we THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. We had fun visiting the local McDonalds, presenting them with the pop can tabs that we have collected this past year. We were also able to deliver Box Tops for Education, and soup labels to the Fielding Elementary school.

SEPTEMBER

Twelve members and two guests enjoyed a delicious potluck din-ner and great company. We were happy to meet two new pro-spective members, Doug and Nini Anderson. We were glad to have them join our group and check us out.

Four members, the Bob & Cathi Anderson and Paul & Arlene Hales attended the Fall Tag-along at Delta. We had a really good time. We participated in all the activities and enjoyed each others company. We were invited to eat dinner with the Happy Hobos and we had a good time associating with them. We spent an af-ternoon at Fillmore Days and enjoyed the music and craft booths. The entertainment was really good and enjoyable. All-in-all we had a good time and hope more will plan on attending next year.

We came home on Sunday and on Monday we headed up to Mathews Camp where eight couples met up with the Voorhees, Gary and LeFaye Pyne, and Gary and Linda Bridges of the Squaw

Peak Sams. Harold and Rosalie Jacklin joined us for the after-noon. After a small rain storm the first day the weather was ideal. Monday evening we roasted hot dogs and played some fun games around the campfire. Tuesday morning the Voorhees served a delicious French toast breakfast. After breakfast some went shopping in Logan and the rest of the afternoon was spent visit-ing and relaxing and preparing our tinfoil dinners for the evening meal. Fredrick & Paula joined us for this meal. Wednesday we showed off our skills in playing crazy golf and bocce ball. We all had a great time.

OCTOBER

October finds us once again at the Brigham City Emergency Ser-vices Building with nine members present and two guests. We were once again pleased to have Doug & Nini Anderson with us.

Paul & Arlene were the hosts this month. We were celebrating the Halloween season. The tables were decorated with bal-loons, popcorn and pumpkins filled with candy. A delicious potluck dinner was enjoyed by all. Everyone wore decorated “Halloween” hats. We want to thank everyone for participating in our activity. We voted on our favorite ‘girl’ and ‘boy’ hat and Cathi and Doug won that contest. A trivia game was played and JoAnne got the most answers correct. Then we had a penny pitching contest. We had pennies all over the floor. After some very competitive penny tossing – Paula won with five, yes five pennies in the pumpkin. All-in-all I think every-one had a good time.

SEPTEMBER We were back in Springville at East Bay RV Park again this month. It seems like we frequent this campground and Utah Lake State Park on a regular basis. Hosting this month were Richard & Peggy Anderson, John & Mickey Godfrey and Rich-ard & Darlene Baer. Our first evening was spent visiting and playing games. The next morning everyone traveled a short way down the freeway to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Our potluck that evening was highlighted by barbequed pork sand-wiches, furnished by the hosts, along with several delicious salads and desserts. My! We do enjoy our potlucks. At the chapter meeting, Gerrie Bowman was sworn in as our new treasurer. President Cloyd Thobold said our chapter has the Merchandise Booth as an assignment at next year’s Sam-

boree and he hoped everyone would take a turn manning the booth. We discussed traveling somewhere else besides Utah County for our campouts and meetings next year. After a continental breakfast the next morning, everyone “packed up” and headed home. Our Holiday Luncheon will be held on Saturday, November 17, at Jim’s Family Restaurant in Ameri-can Fork. We invite any Past President or Past State Officer to join with us to welcome in the holidays! ~ Beverly Olsen

AUGUST Our August get together was a pretty good outing. We camped at the temple Hill RV Camp in Manti for three days. We had a very good turn out with almost 100 percent of our members. The weather was good for the most part, except for the cloud burst that dropped about an inch of rain in just over an hour. We didn’t let it dampen our spirits even if it did soak some of our members. We had a warm campfire serenade from Dody and Gary on a crisp evening. This is always a highlight on our camps. We held our official meeting in an outdoor screened-in patio of the campground. We discussed a little business and had a delicious meal. We do enjoy our food. There always has to be games, laughter and reminiscences of the good old days. When all was said and done we had a good time. SEPTEMBER September is the Fall Tag-along, we all know that Delta is the spot to travel to. We were few in number due to a variety of reasons. But our chapter meeting was well attended. We had our own private (sort of) corner for our meal, which was yummy, and our meeting went well. We found time for a quick game of cards before the program, which by the way was pretty darn good. Those who did camp said they had an enjoyable time. OCTOBER Our October meeting was fantastic. We had all our members present and accounted for. I was wondering if we might have a few walking dead among us. But so far we are still kicking, maybe not as high as we would like to, but still kicking. The screaming and hollering were due to fun and games. We had a delicious BBQ at the fairgrounds. We needed to find cover from a few showers and wind. Foul weather didn’t stop the undaunted men from cooking some mouthwatering steaks and chicken for us. The rest of the meal was assigned to the mem-bers. As always we had a relaxing time. At least it was relaxing until we got down to business. Time to elect our officials. Our current President Dale Dennis started off by nominating Dody Carter for that position. We all greed that was great, well almost all, Dody looked as if she had been hit by lightening but she did finally accept. Wayne McDonald was retained as the Vice Presi-dent. Janice Taylor was elected as the treasurer, Phyllis Dinsdale

is the Reporter and Nancy Sperry was put in as the secretary. Many thanks to those who have served in these positions. We are looking forward to our November meeting, however, some of the snowbirds will be off to warner weather. We will miss them. As I’ve been told many times “it’s all good” hopefully in your life too. ~Nancy Sperry AUGUST

We camped at Strawberry Reservoir at Clyde Creek. We had 29 members present, 2 guests and 7 drop in guests. The theme of the camp out was County Fair. We all had a stroll through our own midway. We all participated and played for prizes. Competi-tion required blowing, throwing, shooting and aiming. We were also entertained by the Squaw Peak Synchronized Swim Team. What a hoot. We all think they all should go into the profes-sional entertaining business. We also spend the weekend fishing, 4 wheeling and site seeing. Our hosts were John and Linda Saxey, Ray and Joyce Snow, and Gloria Despain. They did a really great job. SEPTEMBER

Tag a Long: We had 20 members present. We were in charge of cooking the breakfast Saturday morning for everyone. Ray Snow was the head cook. Everyone in our group helped out. The only part we didn't like was getting up so early in the morning, but we did have fun. We participated in bean bag baseball and won the first round. Then we fell apart and lost the next round. We had good luck at Samgo. I believe we won 6 of the 10 games. WOW we were lucky that day. We also won some prizes at golf, women's longest drive and closest to the hole. Some of us took a ride to see the burned areas. We also traveled to Fillmore to participate in the activities there. We found one of the honey farms in Delta and most of us bought honey. Our chapter Pres. took charge for this outing. Thanks Gary and LaFae Pyne. OCTOBER

We camped at Provo Boat Harbor. We had 29 members present and 1 guest. It was rainy and a little cold, but that didn't stop us from doing what we had planned. The hosts were Gary and Linda Bridges, Bruce and Helen Ashton and Scott and Shar Lee Spencer. The theme was a Columbus Day celebration. On Thursday we all took a little boat ride up the Provo River. The weather, at that time, was a little balmy, but quite comfortable. We saw tons of uniquely carved pumpkins, great decorations, experienced some melodrama, and we heard the story of Ichabod Crane. It was very enjoyable. Friday morning was a potluck breakfast enjoyed by all. Friday night was an Italian Spaghetti dinner. After dinner we raced boats in a man-made (by Gary Bridges) trough. It was windy and cold but that didn't stop us -- the races must go on. We played a few games that educated us about Christopher Columbus. Play dough was passed out so every couple could make their own ship and be judged the next morning. The weekend was enjoyable. We were glad we had a building to have our meals, games and meeting

AUGUST August host Pat and Jerry Olson chose to go back to Spanish Fork's Canyon View . There were 16 of us plus 4 guest. Deanna and Ray Lloyd invited Vern and Dianna Tanner from Spanish Fork. What a fun couple. The Sunburst gang are so happy to say they will be joining us as members of our group. Also with us were Lenard and Kay-Lyn Lee. The meals were great and fun visiting every one. SEPTEMBER The group had two camp-outs this month. The Fall tag-a-long had 5 outfits from our group attending. They reported was a great tag-a-long. The second camp-out had 12 of us going up to Village of the Trees in Deco Idaho. What a great way to end the camping / going year. The RV park was beautiful . The Snake River runs along the bottom of the camp ground. So any one who wanted to go fishing they had the river waiting for them. The guys said the golf over in Burley was a fun course and en-joyed by those who went golfing. The ride over to Twin Falls along back roads was very interesting. The harvest was in full swing. I've never seen so many truck full of sugar beets and potatoes in my entire life. Those of us who road over to City of Rocks found it was also a fun and interesting place to visit. It is well worth the trip just to see this place. Believe me when who ever named it City of Rocks just did not do it justice. Should have called it 'The place of huge boulders that people scale' People come from all over the United States to climb these impressive boulders that are larger than most 6 story buildings. Village of the Trees has something else to recommend it. Along with all the beautiful trees, they have big squirrels with red bushy red tails. My dogies went " nuts" watching them. Maybe this coming year will be another visit to this fun RV park. OCTOBER This is the month that most of the Good Sam chapters start the dinner meetings . It is sad to say this is the way it is with the Sunburst group. The RV.s are put away for a long winter sleep. This month dinner meeting was held in Orem. Mimi's was cho-sen by our host of this month Pat and Jerry Olson. Jerry said he loves to go to Mimi's because the food is so good and he is right. There were 20 of us. A great plus is we had some of our honorary members also attend. What a nice time to be able to visit and see how everyone is doing. ~Janet Carter

AUGUST

For this month the chapter went to Lyman, Wyoming. They had 7 rigs and it was hosted by Nick and Patti Gilbert, and Marty and Susen Zobel. They toured the local museums, and the mountain men rendevous exhibits. They spent some time at Fort Bridger and discovered there are no grocery stores within 25 miles of Lyman. We ate lots of good food and tied several quilts as well as played Mexican Train and other games. All had a good time. This was also the jumping off point for the summer trip to see the rest of Wyoming, and South Dakota, Mt Rushmore and Sturgis which was quite a fun trip.

SEPTEMBER

This was the Tag-A-Long in Delta. We had 7 rigs attend. We joined in the games, We were the runners-up on Bean Bag Baseball. Our team was a hodgepodge of players, from guest to other chapter members that wanted to get some player action. The Crazy Golf was a play-off between team Higgins and team Burton, but I can’t remember who won 1st place. We all had a good time. And we did go out to eat with the exception of when we were “forced” to eat in. As the pot luck dinners, and breakfasts.

OCTOBER

October is the month that we either go South as most Snow-birds do, OR we put the rig to bed for the winter. For our last outing this year, we went to the Pony Express camp ground in North Salt Lake. Our Hosts were Don and Charlotte Beebe and Jerri and Al Heitman. We had 8 rigs attend this outing. We rode the Frontrunner (UTA) to Ogden and back, visited Cavanaugh Candy plant and learned of the history of how they got started. We learned how to make Survival Bracelets for the 72 hour kits. There should be one or more for each person in your group, in this package. We also had our election for the coming year of officers.

We sang happy birthday and happy anniversary to the Sun-downer Sams.

LaVar and Sharon Burton have achieved 54 years of together-ness. Congratulations to them

AUGUST Our August Campout was held at Payson Lakes State Park the 14th through the 17th. Camp hosts were Sharon Cook, Joyce Rigby, and Shauna Edgeman. Tuesday night was our Pot-Luck dinner afterwards we all sat around the campfire and enjoyed visiting and watching Mel and Dave feed the chipmunks out of their hands. A game of rummy cube was enjoyed by several of the members. Everyone enjoyed a campfire breakfast the next morning, pre-pared by Joyce and Sharon and then more visiting and card games. The evening meal was Barbecued Ribs, fresh corn, salad, and rolls provided by camp hosts. Since this was the anniversary

of our clubs 35 years with the Good Sam’s, we celebrated by having a Birthday Party. We held our meeting which was called to order by President Dave Herrera. Mel Meads led us in the Pledge, Secretary Margie Driscoll called roll and read the minutes and Jane Gillis read the treasurer’s report. There were 15 members in attendance along with Honorary Member Jake Burnett. We sang Happy Birthday to Bob Lane and wished Bob and Margie Driscoll a happy anniversary. AUGUST “Oh What a Relief It Was” as we left the smoky 100 degree Utah County Valley on August 20, and entered Duchesne County. The sky was blue, moderate temperatures, a nice green RV Park, with the River running cool and refreshing awaited us in Hanna Utah. We stayed at ”Over the Hill RV Park”.

before due to a forest fire, but by morning one lane was opened for our travel to Hanna. Eight of the 14 members were able to attend this month’s outing. The early afternoon was spent tying fleece blankets for our on-going project at the “Christmas Box House”. We had nine to cut and tie, and they were all completed before we left on Wednesday. Our potluck dinner, as usual, was delicious. The cool mountain air made it even more inviting. After dinner time was spent in telling stories about the early settlers from our own families. We were so appreciative of their sacrifice for us, but we do enjoy our days at this time! Lloyd and Eva Wright were hosts for this month. They had the three days planned out for us. Tuesday, a short trip was made up to The “De Fas Dude Ranch”, stopping along the way to view the "Stone Face". The host couple then prepared a delicious roast pork dinner. Substitutions had to be made from his famous “Dutch Oven” cooking to the “RV oven”. Fire restrictions are in force here, but all the courses were served in fine style and flair. Wednesday morning we awoke to a cloudy sky, but not smoky and 100 degrees. We had a full course pot-luck breakfast. It rained off and on during the day, but a trip to “Snooks Museum” took a good part of the morning. An afternoon nap was in order, then off to play games and later dinner at the Hanna Cafe.

Lloyd went all out on his super nice prizes for the Bingo games. If we won, we got a prize, only to be taken away and exchanged by the next person if they wanted ours. Was lots of laughing and fun.

Those in attendance were: Roy and Arlene Kendall, Val and RaMay Rasmussen, Stan and Jerry Griffin and Lloyd and Eva Wright.

It was a great outing. Kudos to Lloyd and Eva.

SEPTEMBER

The theme for this month’s outing was " Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader?

The Theme Song was “The Autumn Leaves Drift by my Window ' the Autumn Leaves of Green and Gold. Remember “September Song”?

The Trail Dusters left Monday, September 17, and headed to the “Hand Shaker” group area at Granite Flat Campground in Ameri-can Fork Canyon. This would be our “classroom” for the next three days. The days were absolutely gorgeous, perfect fall weather. The eve-nings turned rather cool, so after our gourmet pot luck dinner on Monday night, we gathered in the 'Griff-Inn (motor home)' and had our first lesson. English. We had to write, in our finest hand-writing, how many words we could make out of the letters from "Trail Dusters" Many words were formed. Next was book re-ports. Each took a turn and gave a short report from a book they had recently read. We found out that there are some really good books out there.

Tuesday morning featured a hearty a pot-luck breakfast. We passed our “Homemaking Class”. Next was “Physical Educa-tion”. We headed to the "trail" head which skirts the Tibble Fork Reservoir. The experience was delightful as we had to ford the stream two times. Logs had been placed, but for younger more agile people. After much laughter and help from each other we made it across the stream and the rest of the “trail” was manage-able.

The colorful mountains in the distance and lake below us made a most spectacular back drop for our excursion. The dinner for the evening was provided by the host couple Stan and Jerry Griffin. It featured barbequed spare ribs, sour cream potatoes, green salad, rolls and homemade ice cream along with cookies. Very tasty.

The lessons for the evening, was "Memory". Lots of fun as we remember the things that we have now that we did not have as a 5th grader. We remembered our favorite recess games, of jacks, marbles and of course had to jump the jump rope. Wednesday, was our “field trip”. We drove over the “Loop” to Sundance Ski Area, where we boarded the ski lift and went to the top. Another most spectacular scene came into our view. It was a different perspective on the way up and also on the way back down. We picked the perfect time to see the “Autumn Leaves”. The evening took us to”Mi Ranchito Grill” in down town Ameri-can Fork, for dinner, where we practiced our “Spanish”.

We found out that we may not have all the “tech smarts” of a 5th grader, but we have experiences in our life time that they will never get to experience.

Those in attendance were Lloyd and Eva Wright, Kathleen and Lynn Halliday, Al and Linda Andrew, Roy and Arlene Kendall, Stan and Jerry Griffin. It was a great time to be out and about our beautiful state.

OCTOBER

“In the Pines, in the Pines” found the Trail Dusters on their final camp out for the season. The golden aspen leaves mingled with the green pines were a gorgeous sight to behold. The return of Karl and Pat Koenig, who had spent the summer volunteering at the Fort Stevens State Park, in Oregon was also a very happy oc-casion.

This month we had the opportu-nity to go to a private R V Park in Scofield, Utah where we parked our rigs and spend the nights of October 8 and 9. Members, Arlene and Roy Kendall, own a beautiful cabin “lodge” at the Schofield Mountain Subdivision and treated us with their warmth and hospitality.

The cabin was nice and warm and a delicious breakfast was

Page 12: Volume 36, Issue 4 - Utah Good Samsutahgoodsam.org/saltysam/ss201210.pdf · 2014. 5. 15. · Volume 36, Issue 4 Utah State Director’s Message “To accomplish great things, we must

served. We played games, then took a tour of the town of Scofield. In the past couple years, the LDS Church has been renovated which will now accommodate 475 people. In the summer time and espe-cially on holidays, it is filled to capacity. We also visited the renovated jail house. Then it was on to the Scofield Cemetery. In addition to many local persons buried there, there are 139 coal mines who were buried after the terrible mine disaster of May 1900. The headstones of those miners are in the process of being restored.

You can tell it is “Fall” as the herders were up in the pines and aspen trees bringing the sheep off the mountain on horseback and with the use of their dogs. An interesting process to watch.

We returned to the cabin for a delicious steak fry with all the trim-mings. More games, then back to our rigs for a campfire. It was get-ting pretty cool at 8000 feet, but we slept warm.

On Wednesday, we met at the Cracker Barrel in Springville for lunch. It was a good closing for our camp outs. We are looking forward to the monthly meetings and of course dinners.

Those in attendance were Roy and Arlene Kendall, Stan and Jerry Griffin, Karl and Pat Koenig, for the camping, and joined by Lloyd and Eva Wright, Kathleen and Lynn Halliday, Val and Ramay Ras-mussen, Al and Linda Andrew, for the meals either at the cabin and/or at the Cracker Barrel. ~Jerry Griffin
