ACS teachers together with

the school principal, Sr. Evelyn C.

Rosales,HCK, join for the first time

the Annual Bohol Association of

Catholic Schools (BACS) Assembly at

the Bohol Cultural Center in Tagbila-

ran City on August 25, 2017.

The gathering was a celebra-

tion of solidarity, recognition to all

BACS members and a learning ex-

perience coming from the inspiring

talk of the keynote speaker Rev. Fr.

Christian O. Buenafe, O. Carm. who

reiterated the mission of catholic

schools to implant virtues to students.

He challenged teachers to mold stu-

dents with virtues rather than shape

them to be great men without virtues

at all.

A tribute was also given to

Mrs. Winnie Flores as she retires as

Academic Supervisor after serving

BACS with excellence for more than

30 years, the first and the longest yet.

ACS Enrolment Rises

By Angel Mae Alcala

From 99 last year, ACS grows

its enrolment this year counting to 149

students from Nursery to Grade five

level.

ACS welcomes beginners in

the preschool and transferees in the

graders. The preschool has registered

83 students and 66 in the graders. Most

of the transferees are students taken in

the scholarship program of the 4 Edu-

cation at Visayas. The newly opened

grade five level also gained five trans-

ferees.

Likewise, number of ACS fac-

ulty has climbed to nine including

onevolunteer teacher. ACS has also

employed one security personnel.

Belgian Teachers Visit ACS By Abrahem Ethan Abbas

Four teachers from different

schools in Belgium paid a visit to ACS

on July 31, 2017 while spending a

long week vacation in Bohol.

Isabelle, Alma, Miranda and Eline

received a warm welcome from ACS

family. They enjoyed watching dance

presentations from all grade levels

and did not hesitate to join the kids in

grooving. Afterwards, the visitors dis-

tributed candies to the eager students

who received it gratefully.

They also met with some of

the parents of scholars and shared

some insights on the significance of

good education. They were also glad

to meet in person their scholars.

Isabelle and Sr. Evelyn

Rosales have met in Belgium when

the latter together with the 4 Educa-

tion Team visit De Vlindertuin School

where Isabelle is teaching. The

school has given financial assistance

to ACS for school improvements.

The visitors have also met

exclusively with the ACS teachers to

share some helpful teaching prac-

tices in Belgium.

The Queen’s Day By Methou Zime Tusoy

September 8 is no ordinary

day because heaven and earth share

the same joy and delight in this one

special day. The only queen I knew is

celebrating her birthday.

I woke up early. I went to our

backyard and picked some flowers. I

arrived in school bringing my fresh

flowers. I saw most kids holding their

flowers too. Well, this is expected

because it has been a tradition every

8th of September.

I saw the beautiful statue of

Mama Mary on the stage. I start to

wonder how heaven looks like on

Mama Mary’s birthday. Being the

queen of heaven and earth, I could

imagine her seated on her throne

surrounded by singing angels or

maybe she must be somewhere on

earth visiting homes and listening to

all the greetings for her.

I joined my fellow school-

mates as we chorus to greet Mama

Mary a Happy Birthday. Some nuns

came over to share with us stories of

saints and explained the meaning of

consecration. To consecrate is to en-

trust yourself and family to the care

of Mama Mary.

A holy mass was celebrated

by Rev. Fr. Roque De la Pena.

PAGE 4

THY GRACE VOL. 1 ISSUE 1

This is for me the best way to cele-

brate this day.

During the mass, we offered

our flowers at the foot of the statue of

Mama Mary. We also received a

Mama Mary’s medal from the visiting

nuns. We also enjoyed cup cakes

prepared for us.

I was happy that day and I

wished that our queen feels the same.

She was probably tired that day.

We are being taught by our

teachers to take care of our environ-

ment because it is our home. We be-

lieve that big or small hands can do

something to perform this responsi-

bility of safeguarding our environ-

ment.

One common problem in

most communities is garbage. The

improper disposal of garbage is very

upsetting. People continue to throw

garbage in the river, stuck garbage on

empty lots, leave garbage on the road

and keep on littering. When will we

ever learn that these things will

greatly affect us in time.

In ACS, we are not simply

taught where to throw our garbage or

waste but we are also being disci-

plined in throwing our trash. Sr. Eve-

lyn C. Rosales, HCK, our principal,

intentionally put away trash cans in

the school premise. So where do we

keep our trash? Well, It’s all hiddenin-

side our bags or in our pockets. That

explains why we have kept our school

ground neat despite the absence of

trash bins around the area. It is only

when we arrive at home that we can

finally throw our trash in the trash bin.

From time to time, we fail to

follow the rule . We still find discard

papers or plastics on the ground and

blame each other. Sometimes, we

ignore pieces of paper scattered on

the ground because it’s not ours.

Out of Sight by Abrahem Ethan Abbas and Angel Mae Alcala

We hope that in time, we

earn the discipline of keeping our

trash when trash bins are not around.

Out of sight trash bins should never

be an excuse to leave our waste any-

where. We may never forget also to

put our trashes where they should

be, it should not be everywhere. We

believe that no hand is big or small

that cannot perform these simple

tasks.

lesson. That day, I felt a strange feeling, a

feeling I can’t explain. Happiness, sadness,

uncertainty, everything went into me. Every

time we visit the school, Kyle was always

there waiting for me with a big smile and ex-

citement in his eyes. Then came our last visit,

we organized a short program and games.

There was no little boy running towards me to

give me a hug just like he always does every

time he sees me. Kyle was no show. I was sad.

I was worried. The program was about to start

when I saw Kyle running and chasing his

breath. “I flee from home because nanay won’t

allow me to go here and tatay is drunk again

but i want to see you", he professed. I was

emotionally stirred.

While watching Kyle and the other

children in their rag-like clothes with rough

and scarred skins, some wearing torn slippers,

it troubled me a lot. But on the other side, it

touched me because regardless of the poverty

being evident in their physical form, you'll

never miss their smiles marked on their faces

capable of inspiring other people. I never wish

to sound sentimental but those children moved

me. What would it be like if I am the one

teaching them not just how to read but teach-

ing them everything; English, Math, Science,

etc.? Then, I can I teach them the proper hy-

giene, to dream big and never give up. I can

make these late bloomers finally blossom like

flowers. Those thoughts came into me. Soon I

would be a teacher and yes I can do all these

to them. I can help them achieve the universe

of their dreams.

When it’s time to bid goodbye to the

children, Kyle hugged me and asked for a kiss.

"I wish you're my teacher and if not, as a sis-

ter," he pleaded. I hugged him again tightly for

the last time and told him to study hard and be

a good boy.

Now, I am living the life that once

never crossed my mind. Yes, it may be a pick-

and- shovel journey to become one but every-

thing is paid off every time I get to see the

smiles of my pupils and know that they are

learning. Now, I am happy and blessed, no

doubt about it. I am certain that I am on the

right track led by the grace and guidance of

our Creator above. (by Marilyn Digal, ACS

teacher. At present , she is the Adviser of

Grade - 1 class. This is her third year of

teaching at ACS)

Ask a kid of what he wants to be-

come when he grows up, and by any chance,

he will give you a definite, mind-blowing

answer.

I could still remember when I was

eight, someone asked me what i want to be-

come when I grow up and I said I want to

become a nurse. I like helping and treating

sick people. When I was twelve someone

asked me the same question and I said the

same answer. But as time goes by, I became

realistic and idealistic about my dreams. Dur-

ing my senior year, I wanted to become a so-

cial worker. I always daydream of myself in

an outreach program, feeding street children

and helping homeless families. But unfortu-

nately, life is not a box full of sweet, savoring

chocolate. My family is not financially stable.

So my greatest dream did not come into my

way. Entering college, my parents wanted me

to take the engineering's entrance test in a state

university but I took the education exam. Yes,

the one which was never included in my vo-

cabulary. I know that engineering would give

me a hard time so I chose what I believe

would be easier for me to deal with.

I went to school for heaven’s sake

taking education as my program. I felt I was

trapped in the middle of nowhere where every-

thing sucks and uncertain.

But everything changed ‘till that one

instance. As part of the course, we were sent

to a public school in a far-flung place for our

Literacy Training Program. Each one of us

was assigned to a certain pupil. Most students

were from middle class but most were from

poor families.

There, I met Kyle. Kyle was so

timid and seemed frail. He’s already in grade 2

but with grief in reading. I wondered why. We

never talked too much at first. The next visit, I

came late. As I entered the school premise, I

was astounded when one little boy hurriedly

gave me a hug. He waited for me. "I thought

you'll never come back" he said. He grabbed

my hand and brought me under the big ma-

hogany tree. "I want here, I always eat my

lunch here", he started the conversation. That

time, he owned the talk.

Just like any other families, Kyle's

not fortunate also. They also strive every day

to cope up with their basic needs. His father

has no concrete way of living and a drunkard.

His mother was an on-call "labandera”. And in

all cases, his parents fight like no end. That’s

why, Kyle chose to stay and eat his lunch

under that big mahogany tree to escape chaos

and experience peace for a moment. “Can I

call you ate?" he asked. I gave him a smile and

nodded. Then, we started our first reading

ACS in the Making...

The year was 1995, it was not

Ancillae Christi School then, but

rather it was named Christ the King

Learning Center (CKLC) for it was to

exist as a preschool at that time.

Bishop Leopoldo S. Tumu-

lak,D.D., the bishop of the Diocese of

Tagbilaran received an appeal from

some of the parents in Loboc to re-

quest nuns to put up a preschool in

the said community. Bishop Tumulak

considered this humble request and

approached the Handmaids of Christ

The King Sisters based at Ubujan to

ask them to do the mission of educat-

ing little children in Loboc. Though it

came sudden for the HCK sisters,

they were open to do the mission.

Msgr. Relagio S. Dompor,VG,HP, the

parish priest of St. Peter Parish to-

gether with the Parish Pastoral Center

Officers gave their support to this un-

dertaking.

The sisters started the school

utilizing a portion of the convent which

they were allowed to use. Some pa-

rishioners have also donated school

materials to aid the start of what

would become the first catholic

school in Loboc.

In 2013,the CKLC had to be

relocated brought by the impact of 7.2

magnitude earthquake on October 15,

2013 that crumbled many churches in

Bohol including the St. Peter Church

and convent. The sisters took a tem-

porary refuge to a place lend to them

by a generous parishioner so they

can continue their classes while put-

ting up a permanent school at Baran-

gay Camayaan where they were able

to own a land.

With God’s grace, the gradual

work for the construction of the school

began. Through the generosity of

Children’s hour in Manila, benefactors

and friends, two classrooms were

completed in 2015. That same year,

Ancillae Christi School was never to

be a preschool only but a primary

school opening its doors to grade one

and grade two students.

PAGE 6

THY GRACE VOL. 1 ISSUE 1

The blessings continued to

pour for ACS as seen in the improve-

ments in the year that followed.

Through the assistance of Missiehulp

Filipijnen Okselaar in Belgium and

Sunlife Foundation in Manila, an addi-

tional classroom was built including a

semi-concrete building which was

sectioned for sisters’ quarter, office,

clinic and laboratory.

And this year, with the unwav-

ering support of 4 Education @

Visayas for ACS, the work for the

fourth classroom was completed in-

cluding the construction of the stage.

The concreting of the school ground

with roofing was also finished with the

fencing of the school perimeter almost

complete. ACS parents have also en-

abled the construction of the gate.

All these works are dedicated

to ACS family, making this second

home a wonderful place you would

always love to meet everyday.

Once upon a time, I have wings

Somewhere high I was cloth in white

I sing praises and always pray

Then came one day, it’s time to flee

I found myself in a woman’s womb

She kept me there for nine months long

Finally I was out to see

Lovely people I will call family

I lost my wings but I don’t care

I am here below so much to show

They call me angel in disguise

They believe a wingless one.
