December 2012 EditionTRANSCRIPT
Welcome to the first edition of Lucia Volley– Talk. This is an at-tempt to keep our volleyball con-stituency in sync with our plans, activities and objectives. Too often there is a disconnect between what the Executive wishes to do, and the general bodies response to these initiatives. I hope that through this medium, we can keep you aware of our vision, intention, objectives and plans. This I hope will help you better understand what and why we are trying to achieve. Feel free to email us and let us know what you think, or how we can improve the Sport, We will do our best to keep Lucia Volley-Talk informa-tive and interesting, but occasion-ally we will have a serious article.
Next Year is going to be an impor-tant year as we build on this years’ success. We need your full support. So please continue to remain com-mitted and interested in the great-est, most exciting and enjoyable sport in the world.
And Please read through and en-joy.

SLVA was formed in 1965, and became a member of the International Volleyball Federa-tion in 1988. Though the sport was being played as far back as 1947, having been introduced to St. Lucia by Sir Stanislus James, a Community De-velopment Officer, and former Governor General of St, Lucia who had learnt the game while train-ing in Jamaica that year. SLVA is a members of the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association, ECVA, which comprises 14 members primar-ily from the OECS and Overseas dependent territories of Holand and France. SLVA is also a member of the North Central and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation, NORCECA, which boasts 34 members from as far North as Canada and as far South as Panama including the pow-erhouses of Cuba, the USA and Canada; and we are members of the global body, the FIVB, the International Volleyball Federation.
Lucia Volleyball continues, after almost a quarter of a century to dominate volleyball in the Eastern Caribbean, our Senior Male and Female National Teams are currently the highest ranked ECVA Teams and have won the 2012 ECVA Cham-pionships and will represent the ECVA and St. Lucia in the NORCECA Continental Champi-onships in 2013 in the USA (Men) and Canada (Female). Our Male and Female Beach Volleyball Teams are also doing very well. Our Male Team medaled for the first time this year and are now a serious threat on the Beach, while our Ladies Team is improving rapidly.

Editor’s Serve Brief History of SLVA
2012 Review
St. Lucia has once again stamped its authority on the ECVA Zone as the Fe-male Senior Team confirmed its number once status alongside the Men and will be the ECVA representative at the 2013 NORCECA Continental Champion-ships to be held in the USA.
The St. Lucia Female Team like its male counterparts vanquished their opponents in the final 3:1 to romp home undefeat-ed. With a mix of talent, experience and youth, St. Lucia was able to overcome de-fending champions St. Kitts in a five set-ter, running away with the fifth set, after
St. Kitts fought back from two zero down to tie the match at two all, but they had no answer to a barrage of blocks from St. Lucia’s Samantha Mann, Natalie Edward, Lisa Casimie and Indira Laurencin.
Captain Gifta Dujon-Francois led her troops with poise and determination while perennial power hitter Dania Hamilton continued her dominating play capturing the Best Scorer and MVP Awards.
Earlier in the year at home, the Male Team retained their Crowns and reputation as
ECVA Kings and extended their dynasty defeating all contenders. Notwithstanding the determined efforts of Antigua, who took the Lucian bombers to five sets in the semis-finals, and a dogged and match of their lives attempt by St. Kitts in the finals, St. Lucia never really looked threat-ened and were able to brush off all who stood before them.
Again a mixture of youth, experience and talent was the formula used with sixteen year old Augustin Faulkner forcing his way on to the Team. Look out for the Two Pitons in 2013.
