Vol. 54 No. 2 Summer 2020
Graduating kindergarten is a momentous occasion in a child’s life. With over 300 kindergartners graduated this year, we wanted to recognize and celebrate each student’s accomplishment. Although not in typical fashion, all 12 kindergarten classes had a virtual graduation online. Students and parents eagerly anticipated log-ging online to see a slide show especially for their class. Graduates answered questions in phonics and numbers highlighting the many academic skills they had learned in kindergarten. Several
shared with the class what they want to be when they grow up. With cap and tassel on, the virtual gradu-ation ended with the teacher calling each student’s name and the student moving his tassel to the other side. Congratulations to our littlest graduates! A new adventure in first grade awaits these growing scholars.
PCA’s high school seniors have eagerly antic-
ipated May 21, their high school graduation
date, for a long time. Even though COVID-19
has delayed their in-person graduation ceremony until later this summer, seniors were still able to celebrate their accom-plishments on this momentous day by watching a special virtual graduation ceremony at home with family while wearing their regalia. The virtual ceremony featured several current seniors, including a group of band and orchestra students playing the national anthem, Bennett Roberts perform-ing his award-winning violin solo, and senior class president Stephanie Hovind delivering an outstanding address to her classmates. The winners of several top awards were also announced during the ceremony, and seniors
enjoyed watching a slideshow of memories from the year. After each senior’s name was read, the graduates turned their tassels in celebration of their accomplishments. Fol-lowing the ceremony, graduates were able to view video testimonies from some of their classmates and access a personalized profile online celebrating their accomplishments that they could share on social media. We look forward to celebrating with our seniors in person later this summer!

the ARROW TEAMThe Arrow staff works hard and remains faithful throughout the school year to ensure that the PCA student body has a wonderful book of memories. When most people think of yearbooks, they think of pictures. Because pictures
make up almost 90% of the yearbook, our photographers are a vital part of our pro-duction team. Pho-tographers attend school functions and constantly search for good pictures. The photography staff takes thousands of
photos and then painstakingly edits those images on the computer to make them ready for printing. Another vital role of the Arrow staff is that of the student editor. Editors strive to make sure that the yearbook accurately tells the story of our school year. Editors work hard to make sure that the best photographs are placed in the yearbook and that the captions that coincide with each photograph are interesting and accurate. Editors also play a key role in school-wide individual photos in the fall, ensuring that each person pictured in our book is named correctly. Without this wonderful staff, the PCA Arrow would not be possible.
Photographers: Noah Fields, Matt Hall, Austin Jones, Ava McCormack, Kailey Mitchell, Seth Nipper, Ethan Peeler, Jasmine Robinson, Kaitlyn Segars, and Angelina Teegarden
Editors: Caleb Allen, Kenan Bryant, Caleb Nipper, Kayla Porter, Michael Riffel, Isaac Sanders, Riley Stanton, and Dianna Tupua

AWARDS & CONTESTS
YEARBOOK STAFF
In March, the 4th and 5th grade students had a wonderful time participating in Field Day, hosted by the junior class to raise money for their senior trip to Washington D.C.
Eager students wore their team colors and competed against other classes. The weather was perfect for the day’s activities. They hopped in potato sacks, rushed with erasers balanced on their heads, sprinted while holding golf balls in spoons, and raced down the field while dribbling basketballs.
The champions for the 2020 Field Day are Mrs. McQueen’s class (4) and Mrs. Howard’s class (5).
Special DeliveryOn Friday, May 8, high school teachers and administrators loaded 4 different
school buses and drove all around the greater Pensacola area to deliver a
personalized, commemorative yard sign to each of our graduating seniors.
Since this year’s seniors have had such an unusual spring semester with
several events canceled due to COVID-19, the faculty and administration
wanted to do their best to make this sign delivery a memorable occasion
for each graduate. At each house, they arrived honking the horn and cheering for
the senior. Former, long-time PCA school resource officer Bob Clark also joined
one of the routes in his police car, flashing his lights, as they arrived to each
house. Many parents and students shared how special this day was for them.
Senior Megan Willingham’s mom commented, “Thank you so much for making
the seniors feel special with a personalized yard sign. Megan really misses her
teachers, and it was nice to see some of them and give ‘air’ hugs.”

Each year, students in grades 4–6 look forward to creating a patriotic-themed poster or project. Using imagination and creativity, each student created a project to depict an event, person, or symbol of American history. Before we transitioned to virtual learning, the completed projects were judged and displayed in the classrooms and around the school. Since we were unable to announce the top winners for each grade level in Assembly, we would like to congratulate the winners.
