COLLEGE & CAREER FAIR Monday, November 5th from 6-8 pm

THIS WEEK’S UP-DATES

College Tip of the Week: re you planning on applying to private universities, schol-arships, or programs that require a letter of recom-mendation (LOR)? There are some important steps to take to ensure you will have a quality letter in a timely manner.

First, get organized with your deadlines. You should give your recommenders a minimum of 2 weeks before the due date of the appli-cation to submit your LOR.

Second, fill out an LOR Packet. This packet was carefully crafted to help your recom-mender write a quality letter for you. So take the time and submit this packet to your rec-ommenders within at least 2 weeks of your application deadline.

Need help on applications? Come to the li-brary during tutorials on Tuesdays and Thurs-days in October. Counselors will be in the library to provide support on college applica-tions, financial aid applications, and support signing up for the SAT or ACT if you still need to register for an exam.

Still need to take the SAT/ACT? It’s not too late! Colleges will typically accept scores from exams taken up until December of Senior year. If you are in need of fee waivers, please come to the counseling office. Save the dates:

October 2nd at 6:00PM: Senior Parent Night! Representatives from CSU and UC will be pre-senting on the application pro-cess and platforms. This event is for students and parents.

November 8th: College Application Day! You will all apply to college on this day! So start thinking of which college(s) you want to apply to!

CLASS OF 2020 October 10th—PSAT: Prepare for the PSAT by utilizing tutorials through Khan Acade-my. You will find additional resources HERE. Juniors do not have to do anything to regis-ter for exams as they have been automatical-ly registered. Students will report to their CCR teacher by 7:30AM for the exam unless otherwise communicated. It is important that students report to their testing classrooms ON TIME. Please come prepared with #2 pen-cils and an eraser. Only approved calculators will be allowed for use on this exam. Refer HERE for more information regarding ap-proved calculators. College and Career Readiness: All Juniors participated in a pre-administration activity for the upcoming PSAT. This is a VERY im-portant task that is a necessary part of partic-ipating in the PSAT exam. The PSAT helps gauge readiness for the real SAT as well is the qualifying tests for consideration for the Na-tional Merit Scholarship program. Students were also provided an official student study guide to help prepare for test day.

CLASS OF 2021 College and Career Readiness: Sophomores received information about the practice PSAT scheduled for October 10th. Students also completed a cluster finder survey on Navi-ance, which helps students identify potential career fields that may be of high interest based off of student’s strengths and prefer-ences. October 10th: 10th grade students will take a practice PSAT and gets to learn about Finan-cial Literacy. We will follow a minimum day schedule. Please report to the Science Build-ing by 7:30AM. The exam does not bear any weight for college admissions, however it is an important step to help gauge readiness for the real PSAT which students will take as Juniors.

CLASS OF 2022 College and Career Readiness: “What should I bring to my college field trip? Why is it im-portant to visit? How can this help me?” These are just a few questions that were ad-dressed during CCR for Freshmen. Students received a logistical overview of the day. Stu-dents also built more understanding of Growth Mindset by completing a metacogni-tive journal activity. October 10th: is College Preview Day for Freshmen. This means that students will be taking a field trip to get exposed to post-secondary options. Students must report to the Sports Pavilion that morning in order to meet with their chaperones and board the bus. It is VERY IMPORTANT that students are ready to board the bus at the designated time as indicated on their permission slips. Buses will be on a tight schedule that day to ensure that students arrive for their campus tours on time. We recommend that students report to the Sports Pavilion by no later than 7:30AM unless otherwise communicated. Save the dates:

October 2nd at 6:00PM: Freshmen Parent Night!

if you need assistance! We are here for YOU!

Tutorials: Progress reports are in. If students have a “D” or “F” grade, they may have been assigned a tutorial for Tuesday or Thursday. Students should have received a print out of their schedule if a tutorial was added. We also encourage students to check their Aeries to determine if tutorials have been assigned. Only a satisfactory progress report during the next grading cycle will allow for a tutorial change. If you have questions, please see your counselor.
