When most peoplesee Goodwill, they thin of a second hand clothingstore, but Easter-SealsGoodwill is so much more.

Easter-Seals Goodwillruns a program calledGoodGuides; in thisprogram, volunteers ages16 or older are matchedwith local youth as amentor. The GoodGuideshas three di erent mentorprograms that volunteerscan participate includingactivities li e hanging outwith a younger youth andbeing a mentor for them, going to the Wings CharterSchool for lunch with theyouth, or being on the TeenAdvisory oard.

eing a mentor outsideof the school environmentgives the youth a chance tocreate a bond with a teen

closer to his/her own age.At ris youth nd it easierto connect with someonetheir own age, because itbecomes a challenge forthem to tell an adult howthey feel because they seean adult as someone whowants only whats bestfor them. The role of thementor is to be supportive, advise and guide the youth, and create a friendshipwith them.

This mentoring doesntta e a lot of time; its onlya few hours a wee andit gives them a chance toconnect with the youthand become someone theyloo up to. There are tonsof activities the mentor andyouth can do including;going shopping, playingbas etball, or just hangingout.

There is also anothertype of mentoring calledGoodGuides Lunch-Time

    entoring. This mentoring

ta es place at WingsCharter School duringlunch time. Its only 30 min.a wee and the mentorswill come during lunchand play games or tal toyouth either one-on-oneor in a group with up tofour youth. The studentsat Wings charter Schoolare very enthusiastic aboutgetting a mentor andwould bene t greatly fromthe advice that a young

high school student maygive them. The mentorsare there to become friendsand the only s ill a mentorneeds is to be able to behimselfthats all thesestudents really what.

If mentoring doesntseem li e something of interest, teens can stillhelp out by being a part of the Teen Advisory oard. The Teen Advisory oardmeets every three monthsfor one to two hours. Thisprogram gives local youth

an opportunity to advisethe GoodGuides programs, express their ideas, and beinvolved in the community.Even if one is loo ing forexperience, the volunteerwor is great real-worldexperience and loo sawesome on collegeand job applications andresumes.

Easter-Seals Goodwillis loo ing for volunteerswho can be themselves

and help out an at ris teen. To sign up and ma ea di erence in a youngyouths life today, pleasecontact Tristan Sollis at208-736-2026 or e-mail herat [email protected]. Thisis an opportunity, open tohigh school students ages16 and older, is great fora group or class serviceproject. Remember aperson can be a mentor, but even more they canbecome a friend.

pinion: hunt-ing is necessaryto control animalpopulations

Hunting has beennecessary from thebeginning of time. It hasbeen necessary for survival, for management of animalpopulation, and in somecases, it is needed forsafety. Hunting is necessary, but there are those whodisagree.

Some, li e RianeRichards, junior, say, I ndhunting very o ensivebecause it is shooting adefenseless animal, and isnot a necessity for survivalanymore, we have stores.

thers such as EmilyGrindsta , junior, Dont

mind hunting as long ashunters dont shoot doesand fawns, and somebelieve in hunting 110%,such as Sean Hughes, junior,Sara cLain, sophomore,

randon radshaw, junior,Ja e Warner, senior.

Some people do notli e hunting because theybelieve that hunters can just go out into the eldand mow down animals, the animals have no chance, and that hunting is justto ill. This is not true. As

anyone who hunts, huntingis no picnic. In most cases itrequires hours of searching, driving, and hi ing just tosee an animal one is after. Not to mention the wal ing, hiding, crawling overmountains, through bushes, around various other formsof obstacles and getting aproper shot o the animalthat is found.

As for hunting just forthe fun of it or just to ill, Iwould be lying if I said thatno one does that, because

people do but I guaranteethat this is not the case formost hunters. Hunting issomething many peoplelove for the challenge, seeing the wildlife, gettingaway from the city and thestress.

any hunters do usethe animal that they harvestas a trophy. For others itsa great accomplishment;people also li e the meatthat comes from theiranimal. ne can ma e stewmeat, hamburger, chops,

sausage, etc. and there arelaws that one cannot just illthe animal, s in it, and letthe meat go to waste.

According tonhfday.org and idausa.org, only 7% of Americanshunt, which is about 38million, the average hunterspends $1,638 dollars peryear on hunting, and eachyear 6 million deer andthousands of bear, moose,el , antelope, cougar, andwolves are harvested.

any of us at CanyonRidge High School are nolonger minors andnow have the right tovote. 2010s electionfor the governorof our great stateof Idaho pits thecurrent governor,Republican, utch

tter, against theDemocrat, keithAllred. oth havesolid cases for why

they should be in thecapitol building afterthe November 2 nd Election Day.

The mostimportant issue formany of us is theeducation fundsbeing cut. Allredpoints out that ttercould have avoidedthe cut. He also statesthat tter is much

more inclined to cater tospecial interests instead of

the average Idahoan. He isin an uphill battle; however, according to most of theexperts, who remind us thatRepublicans have basically

controlled every aspectof Idaho for decades, this

Democrat is still somewhatof an un nown in mostparts of the state. Im goingto vote for Allred; I li e hisplan for education, says

raden Coleman.tter claims that if he

were re-elected, he would bemore careful about bringingup an issue without doinghis homewor . He wouldcontinue to as Legislature

for more moneygoing towardsroad maintenance.Another senior kellyAnn uddec e says,Allred is too liberalfor me, Im going with

    utch tter.Allred has been

gaining ground eachtime a new poll is

ta en, but tter isstill in a considerablelead at this point. This is sure to be oneof the more excitingg u b e r n a t o r i a lelections in the entirenation in 2010. Allstudents of age areencouraged to ta e

Energy drinks are notonly something used tohelp people survive the day,but theyre also used as acasual and favorite anytimedrink. Although, few peoplereally pay attention to whatis actually being put in tothese chemical-fused thirstquenchers.

With names likeMonster, Red Bull, Amp,Rockstar, No Fear, Vamp, andmany others, its no surprisethat so many people wantenergy drinks. In the pastfew years, energy drinkshave de nitely been on topfor highest selling items ingas stations and grocerystores, and it doesnt look like that is going to changeanytime soon for energydrink lovers. However, the people who care themost for the drinks dontreally care much for whattheyre putting inside of their bodies while theyreenjoying them.

Energy doesnt justcome out of openingany can. First, companiesmust add all the neededingredients to stimulatetheir drinks into something

that really does give youenergy. Energy drinks

are lled with Taurine, alesser known amino acidthat a ects the bodyin unpredictable ways.Ca eine, a stimulant givingenergy. Guarana, which hasgenerally the same e ectsas ca eine, but also causesweight loss. Ephedrine, acommon chemical seenin weight loss pills, andalso known to cause heartthreats. Creatine, which isan acid taken for musclecontractions, but in energydrinks it poses threats to

the bodys liver and kidneys. When asked why he drinksthem so much, Jordan

Haviland, a sophomore atCRHS who drinks Nos like

its water, said, They tasteamazing, and I really dontcare whats in them.

Its this attitudethat most energy-drink lovers have. Althoughpeople really should startlooking into acids andother ingredients that arebeing put into the thingstheyre drinking. Energydrinks dont do anythingfor you except give you ashort-timed energy boost. However, in my opinion, acouple hours of energy isnt

worth threats to my mainbody functions.

Energy drinks are a bad student choice

Everyone experiencesthose mornings, when onewakes up feeling like thewhole world is falling topieces, you didnt get thatpaper done, or stayed upall night trying to do it andwoke up late for school, you know it is going to bea long day . Now you haveto go through a whole dayof school, and maybe havean after school activity so

now you have too muchwork and not enough timeto accommodate that work. Thats when the stress levelis turned up.

I know the feeling, thatfeeling that no one wants todeal with, stress. I also have

gured out some ways tohelp that unwanted stressstay away. This is what I do.I will tell myself that Im notthe only one that has togo through this; there arelots of other people in theschool that has to deal with

the school work. Also I will just do the most importantthings rst, and the schoolwork that I can wait a dayon, I do.

I dont like staying uplate, so I dont. I need sleepto get through a wholeday of school and sports.Sometimes just going tobed helps, but it doesntrelieve the stress. Then onweekends when I havelots and lots of homework to do, I usually end upprocrastinating. This isnt the

thing to do, I procrastinatedon this article and I havebeen stressed out about itall week, because I didntknow what to write. Sodont procrastinate, get itdone it will help. If you needto take a break from it, listento some music, or go work out.

Those are usually goodstress relievers, but the beststress reliever is just gettingthe work done so you donthave to worry about it andthen the stress will never

    come.

Winter is rapidlyapproaching. Before youknow it, snow will beblanketing the mountainsin a white layer of awesome.Winter sportsmen will

    ood up to the slopes.

Which leads us to thequestion: Which is better, skiing or snowboarding?

A l t h o u g hsnowboarding seems to bethe more popular choice, the two sports are notall that di erent. There

is an obvious variation instructure and technique, but one still requiresexcellent coordination andbalance in order to trulyexperience the sport. Eitherway, youre sliding downa hill on a stick. What elsecould you possibly ask for?

    Having experienced

both, I can honestly say Iprefer to snowboard. Myrst time on a snowboard

provided me with a rush Ihadnt experienced before. The second I latched ontothe board, I automaticallyfelt more comfortable. Iam not claiming that

snowboarding is easier orbetter than skiing, that is just my personal preference.

Everyone has their ownopinion. Logan Hufstetler, junior, says, I have nevertried skiing, but if I had thechoice to do either, I wouldchoose snowboardingbecause that is what Im

most comfortable with. When asked her preference,Madison Tucker states, Iprefer skiing because itseasier to keep your balance. While snowboarding, youcant move your feet andyou fall on your butt a lot.

    A l t h o u g h

snowboarding soundslike the more popularchoice, skiing is a greatsport that should not beignored. Some people ndskiing to be more exciting.Several individuals ndthat they can reach higherspeeds and navigate moree ciently while skiing.

In the end, it allcomes down to personalpreference. Skiingand snowboarding areboth excellent winterpastimes, so there isno shame in choosingto participate in either.

Halloween: does it ever get old

From dressing upas my favorite PowerRanger, red of course, as

a 4-year-old to wearinguncomfortable plasticshoulder pads to replicatemy favorite football playeras a 10-year-old, Halloweenwas always the best.

Now-a-days it seemspeople care more abouttheir costumes and the Trick-or-Treating, justnot for the candy. Ithas become a contestbetween friends aboutwho has the best costume.

Besides all thecostumes and the Trick-or-

Treating, Halloween wasone of my most enjoyable

holidays as a kid. OnceOctober rolled around myfamily picked out the bestpumpkins we could ndto carve. We would buyunhealthy quantities of funsize candy to hand out tokids and most importantly, decide what to dress up as.

As time passed by moreand more kids stoppedparticipating in the holidayfun. They all felt that theywere too old or too cool todress up and go Trick-or- Treating. Most of them justfollowed what their friendsdid and not participate.

When asked doesHalloween ever get old?Connor Cloward a juniorsays It doesnt get old forthe little kids because it isan excuse to eat a bunch

of candy, but as a teenageryou start to grow out of it.Also Jose Santos a juniorcomments Halloweennever gets old. Thereis fun stu for all ages.

I feel that Halloween canbe fun for all ages. People just have to know how toplan it right for the age.

From little kids wholike to dress up in costumesand play games to theolder kids who like thehaunted houses and scarymovies so they can get anexhilarating feel of the thrill,Halloween can always bea fun holiday for everyone.

From the decoratingto the costumes, try to

nd something to getinvolved in the Holiday.

Even the lunchsta themselves like thesandwich bar the most.

Hughes, also a junior, says,my favorite is sandwichbar. The lunch sta s toplunch, the sandwich bar, must be correct. DylanMcGrath, freshman, says, Mine (favoritelunch) would probablybe the sandwich bar.

Personally, myfavorite lunch is thesandwich bar. There issuch an abundance of food served. It has gotthe sandwich, the soup, the fruit, the chips; it

is just simply amazing.Even with the numerouschoices students can havefor lunch, the sandwichbar is clearly the favoriteof the sta and students.

The projected use o vehicles in the year 2023 isbetween 13,000 and 33,000vehicles per day. Its toughto tell how much tra cwill be diverted rom U.S.93 through Twin Falls, ITDspokesman Nathan Jerke

    Bad behavior at CRHSChristian Williams

    Staff Writer

Since students havereturned to the second yearo Canyon Ridge, a ew o them have made some baddecisions. Mr. Dickinsonwent around to every classand told it straight andsimple: students need torealize that i they have anyweapons its an automaticexpulsion. The school boarddecides how long it couldbe, rom a day up to a year.

Students need to besmart about the decisionsthat they make, but manystudents dont realize thatair so t guns, paintballguns, and reworks canbe considered weapons.

But we also need toocus on the good things o

our students, says PrincipalDickinson, We havesome bad students; thatdoesnt mean the schoolis bad. We just need to besmarter about our choices.

We have also had moreghts this year than last.

Mr. Dickinson says thatwe have some very goodcounselors or people thatneed help with anything.

    Mr.Coulson has

taken on the position asstudent assistant specialistand will be helpingstruggling students.

His job mostly consistso setting up groups or thekids: Anger management, time management, drug, and alcohol classes.

When Students rstgo into the o ce ordisciplinary issues theywill either go to Mr. Gemar,Mr. Hicks or Mr. Dickinson. From there they will decidewhether or not that studentwill need some extra help,or a day or two in pass room.

Nowadays there are somany ood undraisers, mosto which are unhealthy. When was the last time yousold something healthy ora undraiser? Is it possibleto sell healthy ood ora undraiser? Josh Clark,

reshman, says I think selling dried ruit would bea good, healthy undraiser.

Examples o sellingunhealthy oods or a

undraiser are the choir, band, and orchestrastudents recently sellingchocolate bars and thesoccer teams selling cookies.

According to the article,Schools rely on unhealthy

oods or their undraiserson magicvalley.com, theIdaho State Departmento Education conducted asurvey on the types o oodsbeing sold in undraisers.

The surveys results showedthat 72% o high schoolssold unhealthy oodsduring undraising eforts.

This obviously doesnthelp Idahos wellnessgoals or students.

Dr. Colleen Fillmore, the director o ISDE childnutrition programs, said inthe article, The wellnessdata will help improvewellness across the state.

Which makes sense;the reason being is i theschools know what they aredoing wrong, then they canknow how they need to x it.

So what can theschools do? Instead o selling chocolates, theycan sell oranges likeprevious Canyon Ridgebaseball and so tball teams.

So i the opportunitypresents itsel to the schoolsor sports teams, theyshould pick healthy oodto sell in their undraisers.

Concerns rise asunhealthy foodsdominate school fundraisers

Canyon Ridge HighSchool looks amazing. Somewonder what happenedto all the unding or theschool and the students.

With the economybeing the way that it is at themoment there is no money

or the students, so groupsalong with their advisors areon their own to raise money

or activities and projects. Many groups are

turning to selling andsponsors or unds. Some clubs this summerhad carwashes or wentto businesses hopingthey would donate andsupport Canyon RidgeHigh School students.

With the holidayscoming, most o the clubswill or have already began

their undraisers becauseduring the holidays iswhen everyone getsin the spending mood.

Key club is one clubthats planning a undraisingidea and is hoping itworks. Annually the KeyClub sells caramel applesat the tail gate party andcandy sticks throughoutthe year and they are incharge o sweethearts.

Key Club also helpsthe people most in needthrough the undraiser

Miracle Minute. They helpraise money or amiliesin need whether its or

ood or someone in aamily is hurt and cant

aford to pay back the bills.Business Pro essionals

o America (BPA) had abooth at the tailgate partywith a beanbag toss orthe cost o ty cents andi the contestant wonthen they won a smallprize as their reward.

Then theres Band,Orchestra, and Choirall selling chocolates.Orchestras undraising

is all about selling theWorlds Finest Chocolateand the others CherryDale chocolates.

Not only are clubsplanning undraisers thisyear, but so are advisoryclasses because someare planning on ooddrives and others helpingout their communities.

The Riverhawk Review isalso selling Riverhawk shirtsto raise money to be ableto print their senior edition

    or the school and town.

Then our studentcouncil had a pancakebreak ast where they raisedmoney or the school to gotowards dances, graduation, and red ribbon week.

While they do that someother things appropriate

or a undraiser can beselling advertisementsand asking businesses tobuy the ads and supportCanyon Ridge High School.

Its been di cult orCRHS, but all the studentshave taken charge and

have helped to keep theschool up and runningor the entertainment

and education o all thestudents in the school.

The city of Twin Fallsis expanding and growingas new businesses popup all over the place.Roads are being torn upand put back together, buildings are beingconstructed, and CanyonRidge is being a ected bythe land development.

Canyon Ridge HighSchool was a huge changefor the city of Twin Falls

as it split up the old highschool, Twin Falls HighSchool. A new hospital iscurrently being built veryclose to Canyon Ridgeinsuring that this side of town will be visited bypa ents more frequentlythan it was before. The new Wal-Mart hasbrought shoppers ockingacross town as well.Unfortunately for thestudents at Canyon Ridge, fast food restaurants are

slim, but students keephoping for a few to pop upover the next year or two.

The roads aroundCanyon Ridge have beentorn inside and out andare s ll under repair.Students dislike the roadconstruc on but deal withit as they are required toa end school. The roadshave been predicted tobe nished during thewinter but may takeeven longer to complete.

The Bowcut twins are at it again

Many people think volunteering is a waste of time. They think its goingto take time out of theirday when they could bedoing something moreuseful. Well there are twooutstanding students atCRHS that happen to think otherwise. For many, youprobably know who Imtalking about. If you dont, its Brianna and DanielleBowcut. Yes, they have thesame last name meaningonly one thing: twins. Theyare very good students andhave many friends, simplybecause they put others

    rst. They always are ready

to help, and they make ane ort to make one smile.

The girls took on a hugetask this summer. Not onlydid they do volunteer work with their church, but theyalso went to Jamaica tohelp build a school. Thesetwins took time out of theirsummer to help childrenwhom had no school toattend.

We concreted a schoolbuilding for a church inClaremont. We also helpedwith a Bible school thathad over 100 children in it.,exclaims Danielle.

They put everyoneelse before themselves, yet they still manage tosave some time for theirone true love; the track. They run all the time, and

have been approached bymany colleges. Where everthey decide to go, theywill always keep up thevolunteer work becausethat is just how they are.

Their a ordable pricesand delicious food makes iteasy for everyone to agreewith. The Nest is openevery morning until afterschool, for students to graba bite to eat. Everyone likesdi erent things, so it s greatthat The Nest has a variety

Seniors struggle to stay focusedAs rst quarter is

coming to an end thefocus of the senior classis dwindling fast. Seniorsare already starting tomake summer plans beforecollege begins. Even thoughseniors say they have focus, its not on the right thing. They are focusing more onselecting colleges, llingout applications, takingthe ACT and SAT tests, andeverything but completing

their senior year.Senior year is the mostimportant year of highschool, everything matters. If they dont pass a classtheres no next year to redoit; its this year or summerschool.

    The school is to blame

    for some things that help

seniors lose their focus. For example, right whenseniors registered they wereasked where they want togo for the senior trip: thisis something that each andevery senior looks forwardto all year and some cantseem to focus because Mayisnt coming fast enough.

Graduation preparationdoesnt help very mucheither. Its not the timeof ordering that sendsseniors astray, its the timewhen everything arrives

and graduation gets closerthat seniors realize thateverything has happenedso fast. The following easysteps will help make senioryear a success and will makeit possible for everyonein the senior class to walk across that stageno one

    should be left behind.

At the beginningof the year seniors need torealize that the senior tripisnt until May and theywont know for sure wherethey are going until laterinto the year, so there is noneed to worry about thatuntil the time comes to pay.Focus on class not on thetrip decision. When the timecomes to order everythingfor graduation, seniors needto know this important bitof knowledge, everythingyou order for graduation

will arrive in April. If you dont understandanything from theinformation that was giventhis is the one thing thatshould be understood by allseniors. In the time betweenregistration and graduationthere are a few things that

    can help keeping seniors

on the right track. Mrs.Adams, comments, Beinginvolved senior year is thebest thing that a senior cando. Also doing work whenit is assigned will make theyear go by so much easier. This is great informationbut from a current studentsperspective OliviaHumberger, Senior, says I plan on doingall my work whenits assigned so Ican enjoy my senioryear and not have to

worry about undonework at the end of the year. WhitneyWalker gives her besttip possible, Dontprocrastinate; itsthe worst possiblething to do. Youdont need to worry

    about undone work and

you need to enjoy your lastyear of high school and beinvolved.

In May all seniorsshould walk across thestage. Help each otheralong the way, so all willgraduate and leave no onebehind.

    Riverhawk Review - Twin Falls, ID - Tuesday, November 2, 2010 Features6

As the SadiesHawkins dance approaches, girls rom Canyon Ridge arebrainstorming to fgure outthe cutest way to ask theirper ect guy. Many ideasare overused and guys tireo the same old poster andballoons waiting or themin class. There are a ew

ways to ensure that PrinceCharming will respond witha yes.

The best way toask a boy to Sadies is to beoriginal. Originality showsthat special someone howmuch the bash ul girl cares. Take a heart shaped tin orsomething able to holdliquid, and pour waterinto it while mixing in red

ood coloring. Next, take alaminated note saying, Willyou go to Sadies, and stick it in the middle o the water.

Let this reeze and becomea solid red heart with thenote inside. Now, it is ready

to deliver to that specialguy. Include a note saying,Will you melt my heart?

Another ideacould be to fnd a huge rock and a litt le rock. Writing noon the big rock and yes onthe little rock. Then, havetwo big guys carry the bigrock to his house and sit iton his porch, and set thelittle rock on the big rock with a note underneath it

saying, You would rock myworld i you went to Sadieswith me. Please carry therock with your answer toschool tomorrow. The boyhas to say yes because hewouldnt be able to carrythe huge rock to school.

Sadies Hawkins is just around the corner andgirls need to ask their luckyguys ast. Sadies will be onthe 6 th o November thisyear. So ask that guy andplan out your day activities.Have a good time at the

    dance this year.

    Sadies, girls haveto ask guys

Moustaches seem thatthey have a culture all o their own. Some peoplethink that they are hilariouswhile others will live or dieby the stache. Moustaches

have been around or avery long time, and thereare many di erent styleso them. They range romthe Hitler to the kindthat English villains hadand even a walrus stylemoustache.

The toothbrushmoustache is a very wellknown moustache becauseit was the one that Hitlersported. It is an extremelythick moustache and isshaved to be about 1 inchabove the upper lip.

There is the pencilmoustache, sometimesre erred to as mouthbrows. They have been inexistence or a long timeand are easy to grow andmaintain. This is a very thinmoustache and they gentlyoutline the lip.

The horseshoemoustache is a verypopular western lookingmoustache. It is also re erredto as pipes. The horseshoeis a ull moustache andruns along the sides o

the mouth to the jaw line, resembles an invertedhorseshoe. The Fu Manchumoustache is a lot like thehorseshoe moustache, butinstead o stopping at the jaw line they dangle below

it, and usually there are oldChinese guys rocking it.

I would go with thewalrus style because itdistinguishes character andgoes with my hair, quotesBrogun Allen, a junior. Thewalrus style is very high inhair density. It is droopy and

covers the entire mouth o the person, and it resemblesthe appearance o a walrus.

The Handlebarmoustache is bushy, theends are long enough tobe curled up or pointingupwards. Some styling waxcan be used to achieve this. There are smaller handlebarmoustaches which arecalled petite handlebar.

Imperial stylemoustache, the hair growthis very bushy, and thewhiskers are extended tohair growth on the cheekso the person. At the end o the whiskers on the cheek, the hair is styled to point inan upward direction. JordanEwanik, junior, says, Iwould choose the awesomeimperial moustache, its thebest.

The English style isa very thin and narrowmoustache that is divided atthe center o the upper lip. The whiskers are very long, but are not bushy. They arepulled to either side o thecenter to give an elongatedappearance. The corners o the mouth are shaved.

Now that you have theknowledge o the stacheyou can pull it o big time.

CRHS administratorsand sta encourage allo us to get involved insomething throughouttheir high school years. What better way to getinvolved and know whatsgoing on then to join aclub?

There are lots o clubsaround Canyon Ridge; oneo the main ones beingthe Leo Club. In this club, volunteers spend hal o their day traveling toelementary schools to help

with sight and hearing testsor the children. I like todo Leo Club because werehelping out the communityand I have a lot o un doingit., was Brandon Collins(senior) answer when askedwhy he does Leo Club. It isa great way to get involved, and an opportunity tomiss hal o your schoolday, while still helping out

around your community, one should defnitelyconsidering joining the LeoLions Club.

BPA (BusinessPro essionals o America)is another club at CanyonRidge, in which studentslearn how to managemoney, manage business, and work on speech andcounting skills. Mrs. Beanis the advisor o this groupwho meets on Thursdaymornings. For undraising, the BPA is going to be sellingSharis pie, and they also puton Mr. CRHS competition.

Another club that isgreat to get involved withwould be the Key Club.Key Club is a great way tohelp with the communitybecause its members getout there and do a loto community service. Theyre also sponsoringthe Sweethearts dance thisyear. So, i youre lookingto help with good causes

around our area, Key Clubis defnitely something thatyou should look in to.

There are so manymore clubs and activitiescirculating throughoutCRHS, and there is defnitelysomething that everybodywill love to be part o !Joining a club is a greatway to get out there andget something Be involvedwith something help ul oryour school as well as yourcommunity.

    Moustache styles to consider

Lunch hot-spots CRHS students can easily access

Its the most highlyanticipated time o the day.Stomachs are rumbling

rom lack o break ast andminds are set on one thing:LUNCH! Many people knowthat the school ood isntthe best, so they chooseto leave campus whenlunchtime rolls around. However some people donthave that option, being asthey may be a reshmanor sophomore, or they just

dont have a car. So they just walk to Wal-Mart. RianeRichards says, I bring myown lunch; I dont have topay or it, and I dont like theschools ood so I just bringmy own.

    Wal-Mart isnt bad; they

    have the deli where you

can get various types o chicken and potato wedgesor a discounted price. Also

in Wal-Mart is Subway;however, i students dontget there early then theymay have an even shorterlunch.

There is also Walgreens;they may not have actual

ood, but you can defnitelyindulge in candy, energydrinks, and chips. Walgreenshas many di erent options, and they may be a tad bitmore expensive, but they

wont be as backed up asWal-Mart or the lunchroomso one is able to get back toclass in a timely manner.

I think I have onlystayed here once or lunch, its way too crowdedand there are too many

    annoying people, states

Kayla Boomhower. Some people are prettydaring and go to Taco Bell;they may be a little lateto class, but its worth itto have a hot resh taco/burrito instead o a coldsandwich rom the schoolline. There is also 9 Beansand a Burrito, this place isper ect or some Mexican

ood. It is closer than Taco Bell, and usually has ashorter line, but it does takelonger to make the ood.So, it depends on how long

you have or lunch, andhow much you are willingto spend.

McDonalds is ast andeasy, it is only a ew minutesaway and seems like oneo the per ect options;however, it is usually busy

    and can defnitely not be

the astest option when youhave a time crunch o 30minutes.

    Wherever one chooses

to go, there will always be

the 30 minute schedule thatwill need to be beat in orderto not be late or get sweptup in the new tardy- sweep.

    CSI corn maze review

Its starting to getcold outside, must be

    The corn maze was

a great way to get out o the house and hang outwith riends, even whenyou were reezing yourbutt o . Although theywere un during the day, they were way better at

night; especially without aashlight. It always seemed

pointless when peoplewere running around thecorn maze with a ashlight.

There really was noreason to not like the cornmaze. People always wentwith a group o riends totry and to fgure out how toget rom the entrance to the

exit the quickest, withoutcheating. Or we competedto see who could get romthe south side (entranceside) to the north side o thecorn anyway through thecorn. Either way it was un. It

was also pretty awesome togo to the corn maze at nightwhen there is no moon andscare unsuspecting amiliesor riends. And o coursethere are always the randomcorn husks ying throughthe air; but dont getcaught by the CSI security, you will be kicked out.

    So overall with the

Over the years manydi erent styles have been

introduced into the musicindustry. There has beenrock, hip-hop, reggae, metal, acoustic, and nowthe new hit is techno. Manyartists are now using thistype o sound to attracttheir listeners because itis ast-paced and easy todance to.

Lady Gaga uses a lot o this in her album, The FameMonster , and then ChristinaAguilera started using it inher album Bionic a ter shesaw how good the reactionswere with Gagas work.

Breathe Carolina has usedthis technique since theycame out with their frstalbum Its Classy, not Classic . They have two albums andthey are still going strong.

There is also Katy Perry, she usually sings aboutlove, but most o her songsare very ast and very likedby her ans. She has becomean even bigger hit sincethe release o her songCali ornia Gurls eaturingSnoop Dogg.

Then there is thein amous Justin Bieber. Atthe age o 17, he is currentlyone o the most watched

and loved artists in theindustry. He sings aboutlove and heartbreak, and

the girls go crazy or him.He has two albums outand is working on his thirdreleasing in 2011 a ter hisworldwide tour. He is alsocoming out with a moviereleasing February o 2011.Bieber has so much moreto give, so be ready; he maycome out with 16 albums ormore. As long as girls haveBieber Fever there reallyisnt any reason to stopproducing music.

No matter how muchthe music industry changesthere will always be a newand resh ace to steal thespot light. These artists will

just have to keep makingmusic and bending theirbeats to the new times.

Your game ace is on,and the lights shine downon you as crowds o peopleenter the stadium to watchyou play the biggest gameo the season. Your heartis pounding as the musicblares out o the stadiumspeakers, but what musicdo you hear?

In a school-wide surveydetermining the bestmusic to warm up to, the

avorite amongst Riverhawk students o every genreis techno. Techno wasdeveloped in the mid-80sin Detroit, Michigan, andwas based on Europeanpop, disco, and electro. Itconsists o quick beats andrapid rhythms that are great

    or getting your heart rateup.

The next highest pick was hip-hop/rap, an ever-increasing genre in modernAmerica. The frst hip-hopsongs were ormed in the1970s in the Bronx Countyo New York City, wherethe A rican American andPuerto Rican cultures hadthe highest in uence onsociety. DJs would take

    unk and soul music and

isolate the percussionrom the rest o the song

to create a new sound.Modern hip-hop/rapincludes sequencers, drummachines, and synthesizers, which are used to createtracks with heavy bass anda quick ow.

The third choice amongCanyon Ridge students wasthe number one sellinggenre in the United States:rock and roll. Rock and rollis one o ew genres to stilluse real instruments duringrecording sessions. Theorigins go back as ar asthe 1930s, where rock androll included high-speedrhythms on the pianoand loud trumpets andsaxophones, but when the50s came around, the hornswere dropped and rock only incorporated guitar, bass guitar, bass, and o tenpiano. The drums enteredin the late 50s and maderock and roll a more upbeat, rowdy genre.

So the next timeyou fnd yoursel lackingmotivation on the be orethat big game, just put onthe genre that best fts you,and let it pump you up untilgame time.

Over the years Americanmusic has undergonesome radical changes. Thestyle, the sound, genres, and technologies haveall become way moreadvanced. In the f ties, sixties, and seventies, bandslike the Beatles, RollingStones, Led Zeppelin, andPink Floyd redefned music.Artists Bob Dylan and TomPetty have made similarlasting impressions.

The biggest change inmusic is the genre. Now,people are more into artistssuch as the Black Eyed Peas,Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, LadyGaga, Far East Movement, etc. Fi ty years ago, bands

needed to ft loosely intothe categories o Rock, Pop,Jazz, and only a ew more. Today each genre has sub-genres, and bands andmusicians ft neatly intothem.

Young people aroundCanyon Ridge like Technoand other ast-pacedmusic, so Techno and otherdancing music is currentlymore popular. Althoughwhen asked about how he

eels about how music haschanged over the years, Mr.

Ridgeway, science teacherat Canyon Ridge, had thisto say, I like how musichas changed over the yearsand that there are so manystyles. I also think that intodays society, new singers

and bands can build a anbase quickly because o the internet. That is a hugechange rom the past. Im just glad that the musicI listen to has withstoodthe test o time. Bands likeJourney, Whitesnake, theScorpions, and Iron Maidenare still touring and packingin big crowds, includingmany teenagers, and thesebands continue to recordnew CDs. It doesnt get anybetter than that!

    Music may change at

a constant pace, but nomatter how it changes overgenerations, people arealways going to be listening. The love or music will neverchange, even though theartists do.

Local bands seem to bepopping up all over town. There are a ew bands thatare more notable than therest. One o these bandsis Atlantis! Falls Underotherwise known as A!FUthey play numerous showsat some o the towns localhot spots like The RadioRendezvous. There are ourpeople in the band; thedrummer, Jake Jones; thesinger, Graham Hartman;guitar, Sky Crystal; and

    Bronson Vanwagoner playsthe bass guitar.

been playing shows sinceearly 2010, but they haveall been in other bands, sowhen they got together itcould only be one thing:amazing. A!FU played ashow on October 15 th , andhave more shows to comein the uture.

They are one o themost watched local bandsbecause they sing aboutrandom things and theydont ocus on just onething like love. They sell

    merchandise such as shirtsand demos.

    Another local band is

Enon Chapel. Most o theguys in this band happen toattend CRHS. They are DustinKinsey, Jeremy Sandoval,Brogun Allen, Justin Seech, and Ryan Kinsey. So s-o, g double o dgood. A fantastic line fromthe classiest of fast food joints, the Colonels ownKentucky Fried Chicken. TheColonel had a dream thatone day he would be able toput out the best fried chick-en known to man, and thisdream came true, but whatmakes this bucket of juicybirds so nger-licking good?

He has put eleven se-cret herbs and spices intothe mix that we are deter-mined to get to the bot-tom of, and we have done just that by hiring a teamof highly trained herbs andspices scientists, but theywere all too dumb, so wecollaborated, studied hard, and came up with an an-swer to the greatest mysterysince the meaning of life.

First we will start o with the obvious primaryspice, cinnamon. It is report-ed that the cinnamon adds

a sort of Christmassy e ect,and who doesnt love Christ-mas?

    Possibly the secondmost important ingredient

would be the love. In eachbucket there are about twocups, handmade by the Col-onel himself.

Thirdly, we guredcaramel. Caramel gives thisfried delight that sweet andchewy essence that peoplego crazy for.

Another quite obvi-ous ingredient would haveto be the whipped cream.People say that this is thereason the chicken tastes alittle bit like pie: Heaven pie.

And then there is thestrawberry extract. Thismakes everybody feel as if they are eating healthy.

One of the prettierherbs is the gold. Minedfrom only the best valleysof Chile; the gold makes the

    avor of the chickenrich.

A tricky spicethat took us a whileto reveal is water. Thisdoes nothing to the

avor; we gure itsto help you digest thegreatest chicken of alltime. Ever.

Next is an acci-dental ingredient, but

it still complimentsthe avor. Bits of theColonels mustache.Although our greatColonel is long gone,

his mustache continues togrow; therefore, a coupleof hairs can be cut here andthere to be added to thebucket.

Ever wonder why thischicken is so darn addicting, well that would be due tothe chocolate. Enough said.

Ever feel that kick whenbiting into your chicken? Asmall drop of Napalm pro-vides this amazing feature. With so much napalm leftover from the Vietnam War,the Colonel was somehowable to get his hands on allof it.

    Finally, the most impor-

tant ingredient. Salt andPepper. This adds mostly allthe avor in the Colonelsbucket of joy.

In the AFC, contenderswill be Baltimore,Indianapolis, San Diego, theJets and Houston.

    After eliminatingthe contenders from the

Much to the dismay of the upstart Jets and theirfans, Baltimore has doneway too much this o -season to improve its roster, and that depth will putthem over the green andwhite, who will struggle ono ense when Mark Sanchezsu ers a sophomore slump.

Idahos not known forits football, most peoplethink its all about potatoes.Little do they know that wehave three major collegefootball teams. Two of whichare in Division 1A (FBS), andthe other in Division 1AA(FCS). The two FBS teamsare the No. 3 nationallyranked Boise State Broncos, and the Idaho Vandals. Inthe FCS, we have the IdahoState Bengals.

First we begin with theBroncos, they are havingtheir best season ever so farwith 5 wins and 0 losses, andthey are currently ranked #3in the nation. The Broncos

rst game of the season wastheir toughest challengeas they snuck pat Virginia Tech by a score of 33- 30. They have also played avery good Oregon Stateteam, beating them 37-24. The very last test that BoiseState has will be against the#19 ranked Nevada Wolf Pack on Friday November16 th . The Broncos are led bysenior, Kellen Moore, whohas passed for 1,336 yardsso far this season, and is aHeisman hopeful. SeniorColton Sweesy said, TheBroncos have potential tobe the best in the nation

this year, lets hope that theycan execute. Go Broncos!

Then we have the IdahoVandals, out of MoscowIdaho. The Vandals have notbeen a very good footballteam for the last couple of years, but after last yearsHumanitarian Bowl win overBowling Green, the Vandalshave been on a roll. With arespectable record of 3 winsand 2 losses, the Vandalshave proved that they mean

business. With key winsover UNLV and WesternMichigan, the Vandals look to keep rolling throughoutthe rest of the season. Andwith a quarterback likeNathan Enderle takingsnaps, it looks like nothingbut good things in store forthe Idaho Vandals. As longas Idaho isnt playing Boise,I will root for them, but still,go Broncos! Sweesy added.

Now for the IdahoState Bengals. The Bengalshave taken a turn for the

worst this season with a 1-5record. They beat MontanaWestern 32-3. The Bengalsare looking to nish up theseason strong, and turnit around. With a youngquarterback, Kyle Morrisunder center, the Bengalsbelieve that these nextcouple of years are lookinggood.
