Thank You, Chuck Stokes! Councilman Stokes announced that he was stepping aside from his seat on the Crescent City Council at the December council meeting. If anyone would like to see the new ambulance, they can do so after the meeting. PLAN COMMISSION/RON OLSON reported that they recommend vacating alley in Blk. 142. Discussion incurred and item was tabled until the Jan. meeting. DENNIS MOWERY addressed Council regarding building inspections. He has been inspecting for Mo. Valley for 5 yrs. He would be willing to do it for Crescent; he would be considered an employee at an hourly rate. This would entail taxes, Ipers, workman’s comp ins. He would have to be covered under the city insurance for any liability as he does not carry his own. This would not be on a consult basis. JOHN HAMILTON reported on information regarding aeration of the lagoons. The city has had no violations and our permit is good until 2016. This may be something that the City will look into in the future but the main priority now is getting the lagoons fixed from the flood damage. The City has been working with FEMA since the flood and it is estimated to cost $1,263,000. for repairs. FEMA would cover 75%, state 10% and the City is responsible for 15%. JIM CAMPIN reported he is in the process of doing tennis court repair research. Park has received a $12,000. matching grant for this. Park Board is looking into a scoreboard and any donations towards this would be appreciated. There has been considerable dirt work down at the park and it is looking very nice. CRAIG PETERSON/MAINTENANCE reported that the snow equipment is ready. He will be replacing some worn street signs. The City has had all necessary sand for winter donated, so only salt will need to be purchased. BOB ASTLEFORD addressed Council regarding a letter he received about his property. Mayor Shea thanked Chuck Stokes for all his hard work and dedication. MOTION BY STOKES, seconded by Anderson to adjourn the meeting. Anderson, Clark, Stokes, Morgan, Jacobsen, all ayes. Motion carried. MEETING adjourned at 8:16pm

What’s Up at CECC?Submitted by Linda & Mindy Brewer

It “finally” snowed so that means winter and Christmas are officially here. Preschoolers don’t understand that it could be winter or Christmas without snow. And so timely. We could point to the calendar and the snow outside the window and turn our weather board to the season “winter”. And it was a good snow. Though Nicholas pointed out that it wasn’t as good as “that year we had 100 feet of snow in our yard”. We thank Mike Harmon for stopping by and shoveling for us. We also thank Duane Rief and Mike for working on our door that was sticking. I know we’ll embarrass Mike by saying this, but he’s like a super hero who goes around helping people in the area! As you’ll probably be reading this after Christmas, we’ll just say that we at CECC hope everyone in our community had a good holiday. For having a small preschool class, we had a large audience for our Christmas program. The kids made cookies, sang the usual Christmas songs and passed out presents they had made to their families. Even some of the school-age kids made ornaments and other Christmas crafts to take home. They also had a gift grab-bag that was more friendly than we feared it could be. The two week winter break from school will give us a chance to do more extended projects with the school-agers and to visit the gingerbread display at the Mormon Center in north Omaha. We’ve said this before, but you really should visit their center. They do amazing things with gingerbread, and it’s free. We thank everyone who sold and bought cookie dough and other foods during our fund raiser. We did make about $600, but ended up spending most of it on a new exhaust fan. Like many of you, it’s hard to get ahead! But we appreciate your support. We’ll conclude this brief column by thanking our board of directors officially for serving and helping out with so many things. CECC is a non profit corporation and so is run by a volunteer board. President is Kris Hopkins; vice president is Troy Thomason; secretary is Shirley Collins; treasurer is Lara Blair. Other members are Steve Hultman and Mike Harmon. And we thank the Community of Christ Church for being such a good landlord and the Optimists for the Christmas treats. If you are interested in day care for your child or preschool in the new year, do call, stop by or e-mail at [email protected].

Pott. County Sheriff’s Report

Submitted by Chief Deputy, John Reynold

Mayor’s Corner Here we are in the midst of winter with the holiday’s behind us. The first big snowstorm has hit and thanks again to our maintenance man, Craig, the roads were cleared quickly. I would like to remind people to scoop, push or blow your snow onto your own property and not into the streets. Not only is it a safety hazard but, we as a city are legally responsible for keeping our city streets cleared. It is always a pain to clear the drive and have the plow come along and block the drive again, but remember it is our maintenance man’s job to keep the STREETS open. So please be courteous and keep your snow on your property. Thank you to Ron Olson and Jim Beck for hanging lights on the tree on John McNeils property by the bank. A few people have asked about our Christmas lights. Our previous pole ornaments were damaged after being stored outside while the maintenance shed was destroyed and then rebuilt. We could use some helping hands to get them back in working order. If you’re interested in helping restore them for next year, please contact me. We need volunteers for mounting and removing them as well which is a big job when only a few step forward. Finally, I’d like to thank Chuck Stokes for his many years of dedication and service on the City Council. Chuck will still be an active volunteer for the city. In the meantime, we now have an empty seat on the council and we are looking for someone to fill that spot. If you’re interested please contact the City Clerk or myself at the numbers on page 2. Happy New Year! Brian Shea

All About Science! •We continue to hold hands-on sciencelabs once a month. These are put on by parent volunteers. Students learned about States of Matter in December and were able to create their own “elephant toothpaste” using yeast, hydrogen peroxide, and soap...very messy, but very fun. Volunteers are welcome to help with this program on the 4th Tuesday afternoons of each month. Contact [email protected] with questions. • Hitchcock Nature Center continues toprovide monthly classroom programming to our students. HNC is a wonderful resource right in our backyard!
