Hello Christus Victor He is Risen! May you all experience the miracle of the risen savior in your lives once again! I hope you all had a meaningful Lent and Holy Week. If you are tied to the rhythms of the church, you know that we are close to the transition from fall-winter programing to summer programing. Continued from page one….

Someone asked me if things settle down after Holy Week. I said that actually, things get busier as we transition into summer. It is a busy summer, but it is all awesome stuff. And most of it is led by our awesome lay volunteers. I could probably write a newsletter article about each item in that list, but hopefully you will learn more about these things as the summer goes on. Oh yeah, one more thing. In case you haven’t heard, Lindsay and I are planning to adopt our second child sometime in the next year or so. In the midst of this busy summer, we could receive a sudden surprise addition to our family. If that happens, I want to thank you ahead of time for your grace and flexibility. And if you are up to it, keep an eye out for Pastor Kent as he supports me while I am on paternity leave. CVLC, thank you for all that you do. We couldn’t do church without you. Pastor Steve

50th Anniversary Planning Team Forming! It is our 50th Anniversary this year and we need an energetic, creative, committed team of people to help plan and organize our celebration(s). We had the first planning meeting on Sunday, April 30, at 12:15pm. If you’d like to participate in helping with our 50th Anniversary Celebration, please contact Stacey Klein at [email protected].

Items for the month of May are: Laundry soap and toilet paper

MILESTONES at CHRISTUS VICTOR

First Communion: Kayla Case, Dora Colin, Ian Hanson, Hailie Holman, Christian Klein, Meyer Kreutzmann, Katelynn Radke

Prayer for youth receiving Holy Communion:

May they experience joy in discovering your grace

revealed to them in bread and wine, and open their

eyes to your presence hidden everywhere! And, may

they remember to live forgiven and forgiving lives

each day; through Jesus Christ our Savior and

Lord. Amen.

First Impressions At Christus Victor The Welcoming Committee asked a few families to reflect back on their early experiences at CV. We asked them to focus on areas for potential improvement to help make new people feel more comfortable at our church. Everyone said they were blessed to be a part of our congregation and described us as “active and vibrant” and “the energy is amazing”! They felt it was clear that members had “strong ties and relationships” and people “really care about each other and the community”! We heard how important it is for members to introduce themselves and their friends to new people OR anyone they don’t know! They also said that a personal invitation to join a group or activity is invaluable to help someone assimilate into our CV Family. New people may not understand the group acronyms or functions, so by asking about their family’s interests you can help them find their niche. It was stated that “Greeters” can play an important role by connecting with visitors as they walk through our doors. We heard that our church is “friendly”, but it requires some effort to get to know people………so keep on greeting, introducing, and inviting!

Facility Improvement Teams Forming After thoroughly studying the results of the Feasibility Study, the Church Council is beginning to form a number of Facility Improvement Teams to help us explore and take the next steps in developing a plan, scope, and resources needed for improving our facilities for the future of our ministry and mission. Those teams are:

• Facility Planning – focus on architects and contractors

• Facility Finance – focus on capital fundraisers and financial oversight

• Facility Communications – focus on communicating with the teams, council, and congregation

• Facility Prayer – focus on surrounding the whole process and all of the teams in prayer

These teams will bring their recommendations to the Church Council, and then the Church Council will bring those recommendations to the Congregation, at a Congregational Meeting yet to be determined. A lot of work has to be done before anything can be brought to the council and congregation for input, feedback, and support. If you are interested in serving on one of these teams, please contact Pastor Kent at [email protected] or (952) 454-6927. He will help connect you with the various teams being formed.

CV Green Team reports great

inaugural event! The newly named CV Green Team (formerly the Environmental Committee) held their first event on Earth Day-- a 3-mile hike in the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, which is right in our backyard underneath the Cedar Avenue Bridge. The team met at CV and had a wonderful sendoff breakfast with the Dwelling Place, who provided coffee, treats, and a send-off prayer. Eleven hikers, one hiker-in-training in a stroller, and a canine friend enjoyed the beautiful weather and God’s creation.

This is a completely incredible and creative new group of folks who are bringing their passion for the outdoors and caring for God’s creation to do something COMPLETELY NEW! You read that correctly – Lutherans doing something new! We already have a ton of great ideas on the table, from joining our fellow churches in investigating ways to mitigate rainwater runoff, hosting guest speakers, taking family friendly hikes and camp outings, to getting extreme in the wilderness. But there’s room for more! Do you want to brainstorm ways to make our community more sustainable? Are you interested in getting outside and doing something awesome? If so, please join us at our next meeting on Tuesday May 9th at 7:00 PM.

Church Council Commitment to Faithful Leadership Serving on the Church Council is an honor and privilege, along with challenges and hard work on behalf of the ministries and members of this congregation. In order to grow in our understanding and skills of leadership and team work, we have been blessed with the excellent training and guidance of Alana Thureen. Over the past three years, she has lead us through a number of thought-provoking exercises to help us grow and improve, both as individuals and as a team, in our leadership and work together. We want to share with you what we are working on improving as your Church Council, and invite you to reflect on how you can put these agreements and practices to work in your ministry areas, committees, teams, and small groups.
