Prof. Kaimenyi plants a tree before presiding over the graduation

When our graduation was interrupted by the security scare and the media was awash with the news of cancellation a friend encouraged me that there is nothing like bad publicity. True to this I got tens of calls from media houses and stakeholders who wanted to find out what was happening. Eventually the graduation ceremony was covered by almost all media houses I know. The good part is that we were able to correct the narrative when we resumed transmission. All in all the department appreciates the support of all who retweeted and shared our statement and helped in one way or another in publicizing the graduation ceremony.

The 22nd graduation ceremony that was held on 4th October 2013 was a great success. To the University staff who worked tirelessly to make it a success, we say kudos to you. We agree that the security office together with the police did a commendable job on the day to contain the crowd and bring back normalcy after the security scare. To the 2013 graduates we wish them all the very best in life!

Rev. Dr. Mutei (lecturer in the Faculty of Theology) graduated from Catholic University of Eastern Africa with a PhD in religious studies. We congratulate Dr. Mutei and wish him the best in his future academic journey

Geoffrey Barasa referees at the Rollball World Cup

Many of us may not understand what roll ball is all about, even us we had to consult Wikipedia and it is described as a game played by 12 players on skates and a player must dribble the ball while carrying it. This game can be played on Ice Skating rink as well. The roll ball world cup came to Kenya for the �rst time and one of our very own; the games tutor Mr. Geo�rey Barasa was one of the referees. He plans to introduce the game at SPU real soon!

Open Lecture with Chris Chivers

AbstractWhen an Anglican priest was asked to go and model inter religious living in Blackburn in Lancashire, he didn't know that just days later the London bombings (7/7) would change the landscape of his community and country. Employing a Muslim on the staff of the cathedral - a world first - he founded a grassroots agency called exChange which aimed to penetrate the depth of issues that came to the surface in a community which had become forty percent Muslim since workers migrated from the Indian subcontinent early in the twentieth century as textile workers for Lancashire's mills. At one point it saw a Muslim woman heading an educational project about a Jewish girl in an Anglican Cathedral. Life was never quite the same thereafter.

About the presenter:CHRIS CHIVERS is an Anglican priest who has worked in Cape Town and Blackburn Cathedrals, Westminster Abbey and several North London parishes. A graduate of Oxford and Cambridge universities, he is a frequent broadcaster on BBC Radio, and a writer for British and South African newspapers. He trained as a musician, is a published composer, poet and author, and the Chair of US (the mission agency USPG which is the sister agency to CMS, which is better known in Kenya and connected to St. Paul's University). He is married with three sons and supports Blackburn Rovers.

Q: What or who inspires you?For those who did “A Man of the people by Chinua Achebe, Remember Character Chief Nanga and Odili! Am inspired by the way they handled politics. Politics is part of our day to day life and sometimes wish that all politicians are like Odili. Q: What is your guiding pillar in life? Act in good Faith, Integrity and Honesty. Q: What was the craziest thing you did while in Primary school? Ooh my…..beating my desk mate just because she was a lady and I could not tolerate sitting next to a lady. I was beaten thor-oughly in a parade and suspended for a week. What? You beat up someone? No words.Q: Fashion statement? I like attire that will give the image of who I am; official most of the times but I feel at ease while dressed casually.Q: Do you have a favorite food? My favorite food is Chapati and pancakes, can eat them any day any time.

Q: Tell us about your background and family I am a third born in a family of four. Born and brought up in Uplands Town in Lari Division which happens to be one of the coldest known places in Kenya..

Q: What do you do for leisure? I like listening to Music and watching football. I am a ‘Gunner’ for those who know the language of football. I consider myself an adventurous person and so love to travel a lot. Q: How is it working at the PR and Marketing office?PR and marketing has an aspect that helps me to enhance my social life. I interact with people a lot and in the process I end up making friends. I don’t imagine how I would work in a back office so to say (an enclosed one).Q: What is the one thing we do not know about Michael? I like watching international football so much but not local ones.
