Forty-eight newsletters were selected forrecognition and achievement certificatesafter meeting the DKG Internationalguidelines. Many of the newsletters werewell-designed, had beautiful graphics andmany pictures. Some of the newsletters

had innovative and interesting titles. Thecertificates were presented to ChapterPresidents in their convention packet.

The newsletters were also rated onthe Checklist and Rubric Assessment.Four were chosen for awards as out-standing newsletters. The first placenewsletter was produced by Beta LambdaChapter. which scored the most possiblepoints. The second place newsletteraward was given to Alpha Upsilon fortheir newsletter called Oops Scoops. Twochapters tied for third place: Gamma with

    Newsletter Success!

Rita Shardell bids farewell after announcingshe will no longer be serving as Alpha DeltaState Webmaster.

Alpha Delta State has new web pagePart of the definition of both the Internet and a website is interconnectedness. AlphaDelta State strives to be connected to all its members statewide. Towards that end,Alpha Delta State has a new webpage. The needs of our members were kept in mind asthis new website was built. We tried to look at our site through the eyes of a member. What might they be looking for? How can we help?

Every effort will be made to have the latest information, news, forms and contacts. If you have a question, we want you to be able to find an answer on our webpage, orbe directed to someone who can help.

Although there is a good start with this new homepage, it is considered a work inprogress. Go to the website and look around. Give some feedback. What can bechanged to make it better? What can be added? Is there something confusing that canbe made more clear?

You will find a contact form right there on the webpage. Fill it in. Tell us whatyou think. We want to connect with you. Help strengthen our interconnectedness. Ofcourse, if you like something, wed like to know about that as well.

To find us, you can do one of three things. First you can go to our old website. You will find a link there to direct you to our new website. You could go to the Inter-national website and be linked to the new web address. Better yet, bookmark the new

web address as a favorite. The address is: http://AlphaDeltaState.weebly.com.Eileen McNally, Alpha Delta State Webmaster

New state webmaster, Eileen McNally, tellsmembers about the updated web page.

Alpha Delta State dues for active members are only $7 and for reserve members areonly $3. This dues amount was approved in 1985! It is astounding to think that for 27years the Ohio State Organization has been able to provide services to members with-out a dues increase.

In October, 1982, the Executive Board approved a mileage reimbursement of$0.17. In October, 2012, the Executive Board approved a mileage reimbursement of$0.17. This is just one of many budget cuts made in an effort to reduce spending.

The budget presented and approved at the Spring Executive Board Meeting is

lean. This budget will greatly reduce reimbursement for state officers and committeechairmen. Attendance at international and regional conventions are dramatically re-duced. Our quarterly newsletter, The Voice, will no longer be printed and mailed tomembers.

Past state budgets have drawn upon savings to balance the budget, a practice thatcannot continue. The proposed 2012-2013 budget is not balanced. Once again, thisyear it will be necessary to use savings to meet expenses.

Membership madness initiative introducedMembers who attended the General Session at our State Convention, enjoyed seeingand hearing the M&Ms introduce the Membership Committees Membership MadnessMembership Initiative. To meet the initiative requirements, a chapter must increasethe chapters total membership by one member before March 1, 2013. Further detailswill be given to chapter officers in June at the Chapter Leadership DevelopmentWorkshops. Chapters meeting the initiative will be recognized in The Voice and at the75th Anniversary State Convention in 2013.

How do we attract new members, both actively employed and those retired?Hopefully, the ideas below will be useful to you in attracting new members:

Invite non-members to chapter meetings so they may see who we are and whatwe do from an educational position.

Invite non-members to be guest speakers on their particular area of educationalinterest.

Write a congratulatory letter to non-members for recent accomplishments andinclude the Society membership brochure You and Us with local contact infor-mation.

Invite potential members to lunch/dinner or a special event and be ready toshare what the Society can do for them as well as sharing what it has done andcontinues to do for you.

In effort to move into the digital era, Alpha Delta State will be providing The Voice inelectronic version only. This move will save substantial monies in printing and post-age costs for a hard copy mailing of the newsletter.

Various services are currently being investigated for mass distribution as e-mailsecurity, unwanted advertisements and spam are primary concerns of members and theleadership team. Beginning September 1, 2012, the chapter president (or designee)

will receive the electronic version ofThe Voice and will be responsible for forwardingto all chapter members. The goal is to ultimately e-mail the newsletter to all members. As in the past, The Voice will be available on the state website.

Publication dates are set for September 1, 2012; January 1, 2013; March 1, 2013;and June 1, 2013 with deadlines for articles to be determined. Additional informationwill be available at the Leadership Development Workshops in June and on the AlphaDelta State website.

Former members wereasked how likely they would be to reinstate their membership, and 69% respondedfavorably IF they would be asked. Think of a member in your chapter who hasdropped her membership and offer a personal invitation to her to rejoin. The Expan-

sion Committee has been encouraging chapters to reinstate members and has offeredsuggestions to help. Contact Peggy Brooks, chairman, for the letters prepared by hercommittee. Consider personally inviting a former member to restore her membershipin your chapter!

Now that weve experienced a convention at the Easton Hilton, it is much easier tovisualize the large display of chapter photographs for Project 2013 when we celebratethe 75th Anniversary of Alpha Delta State next April. Ten chapters have submittedtheir group photographs already. If your chapter is not among the big ten, now isthe time to make plans. Chances are you are already thinking about interesting pro-

grams and special events for your chapter in 2012-2013. Dont forget to include yourchapters group photograph in those plans. Your executive board may want to set upthe Project 2013 photo session so that it coincides with the meeting that commonlyhas the largest attendance. Digital cameras make taking the photo much easier evenfor a strictly recreational photographer. Remember the submitted photograph shouldnot be larger than 8 x 10 and can be black and white or in color. The chapter nameshould be printed on the back in pencil. Please include a separate sheet with the firstand last names of members in order of their arrangement. Present in person or submitby mail to Beth Archer, 1140 Ellen Drive, Zanesville, Ohio 43701. To be included inthe state convention display, please submit photographs by February 1, 2013. Pleasedo not email. The Project 2013 collection will become part of a 75th Anniversarymemorabilia collection after the convention.

Gamma Alpha Chapter (Stark County) raised money in several ways during 2011 to

help AIDS orphans at the Mbabaali Memorial Nursery & Primary School near Kam-pala, Uganda in southeast Africa. Dr. Carol Sandbrink, a charter member of the chap-ter and chapter World Fellowship Chairman, personally delivered the chapters $185donation to the school in October 2011. A $2 donation will feed a child for a week.

Uganda is not one of the schools included in the Schools for Africa program. There are plans to continue their support of this school in the future. Alpha Delta Stateawarded Gamma Alpha an Outstanding Compassion award for their service to theMbabaali Memorial School during 2010-2012. This award fits under the Excellence inEducation program. It is the hope that other chapters undertake unusual service pro-jects and report them to the Excellence in Education committee.
