Page 4: Vocation

Maker of the Earth and Heaven Maker of the earth and heaven Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, Who the day and night have given, Sun and moon and starry host; Your almighty hand sustains Earth and all that it contains

Maker of the Earth.. 2

Thank you, God, for in your keeping I have rested safely here: You have guarded me while sleeping From all danger, pain and fear. That the unrelenting foe Could no cause my overthrow.

Maker of the Earth…-3

Let the night of my transgression

With the darkness pass away; Jesus, into your possession I resign myself today In your wounds I find relief From temptation, sin and grief.

Maker of the earth…-4

Grant that at the morning breaking

I in spirit may arise; So may I in joy awaking Greet you when you rend the

skies When that judgment day appears May I greet it without fear.

Maker of the earth and …5

Let my life and conversation Be directed by your Word; By your help and preservation Let me live this day, O Lord. Only when you are with me Can my life be wholly free.

Maker of the earth…6

Lord, your holy angels send me To protect me from alarm; From the wicked foe defend me That his pow’r may do no harm Till your messengers of love Bring me to your home above.

A Morning Hours—Morgenstund

A morning hour, it’s snowing in the city And summer’s final rose is sheathed in

ice The birch tree branches fluttering with

blue jays Like angels in a winter paradise.

Page 12: Vocation

Morning Hour—2

A restful time, for all our Lord created, For corn and hedgehogs deep in winter

holes A time for memories that clatter by us And move like naked branches black as

coal.

Page 13: Vocation

A Morning Hour—3

Go slowly now, For Christ is walking with you

As he creates his kingdom in your view, Where you can see your neighbor with

his vision And care for them as he has cared for

you.

Page 14: Vocation

A Morning Hour—4

He’s near to you, his heart is where his Spirit

Awakens faith, and love and charity So you can spread the light in winter’s

darkness He is the blessing you bring on your

way.

A Morning Hour—5

Go quietly In these short days of winter When nature rests and strength can be

renewed Until the sun returns into the heavens And light makes branches blossom fresh

and new.
