Product Q&A Q: How much is the price of vRealize Network Insight?

A: vRealize Network Insight is $1245 per socket. Note that all pricing is suggested MSRP for US and USD, regional prices will vary, please refer to regional pricing resources. Academic and Federal SKUs are also available.

Q: How do we sell vRealize Network Insight?

A: vRealize Network Insight is sold separately from to NSX. vRealize Network Insight will be sold on a per-socket model under perpetual license. On-Premise Term License and Hosted will not be offered.

Q: What is the difference between the assessment mode and full product?

A: The assessment mode is very limited, and has a “generate report” that provides a quick report and preview. The full product evaluation and full product (purchased) are the same, except in the evaluation version, you cannot export the flow data (cvs).

What happens vRealize Network Insight after my licenses has expires?

A: 7 days prior to the expiration date, the user will receive reminders that the license will expire soon. Once the license has expired, the vRealize Network Insight will stop collecting data. The user can still log in and see the old data and reports (thanks to the time machine function). Once the renewed license has been entered, the product will resume.

Q: How is vRealize Network Insight different from vRealize Log Insight?

A: vRealize Log Insight provides log analytics; managementcapabilities and integrates with VMware vRealize Operations to bring unstructured and structured data together, for enhanced end-to-end operations management. vRealize Network Insight provides microsegmentaiton planning, visibility and contextual analytics, and advanced NSX operations for VMware NSX

Q: How is vRealize Network Insight different from vRealize Operations?

A: vRealize Operations provides intelligent IT operations for compute and storage while vRealize Network Insight is for VMware NSX networking.

Q: How should I position these products with customers?

A: vRealize Operations Manager (vR Ops) should be positioned as the SDDC operations tool for compute and storage with a focus on the Virtual Infrastructure/vSphere operations persona’s. vRealize Network Insight should be positioned as the SDDC tool for networking, specifically NSX, with a focus on the virtual and physical network engineering and operation persona’s.

Q: If my customer doesn’t have VDS, can I still use vRealize Network Insight to perform the assessment?

A: vRealize Network Insight requires a pre-requisite of VDS and IP-Fix (vSphere ENT+, vSphere 5.5 Updated 2 and above & 6.0 Update 1b and above). IP-Fix is available only with VDS (not vSS) and therefore requires vSphere Enterprise Plus editions of vSphere together with VDS deployed for customer workloads.

1. Validate your customer is running current versions of vSphere 5.5 Update 2 and above & 6.0 Update 1b and above. vSphere 5.0/5.1 EOGS Aug 2016, upgrade customers 6.0 (for more upgrade details, go to vSphere Upgrade Center). Attempting to use IPFIX data export on earlier Hypervisor releases could cause Hypervisor PSOD’s.

2. If the customer does not have VDS, first talk to themabout the benefits of VDS in vSphere ENT+ or higher. If the customer is unwilling to upgrade to vSphereENT+ or higher, but is VERY interested in buyingNSX, you can provide the customer an evaluation of

VDS by providing an trial license of vSphere Enterprise Plus. As part of this trial license period, migrate some test workloads from Standard Switches to VDS and together with vRealize Network Insight, run an assessment on their test traffic patterns.

3. The purchase of NSX includes VDS together withboth VDS and NSX IP-Fix data export. This allowsany edition of vSphere fromEssentials Plus andabove to be used for NSX deployments together withIP-Fix data export to vRealize Network Insight.

Other Q&A Q: If a customer already has vCloud Suite (which includes

Log Insight full-version) as well as NSX (which includes Log Insight for NSX), could we offer the customer a fair value trade of vRealize Network Insight instead?

A: No. Log Insight for NSX is provided to NSX customers as a limited no charge offering for managing NSX. This is not, not something customers can trade in for another product.

Q: How do we charge for non-NSX endpoints (since vRealize Network Insight supports mapping physical network nodes and our current pricing model is per socket)?

A: Physical network nodes are offered at no additional license charge today.

Q: What if my customer wants to continue down the path of using vRealize Operations for managing NSX and/or the physical network?

A: If they are not interested in migrating over to the Network Insight tool, VMware is in the process of taking end of sale, end of life action on both the NSX for vSphere and MPND vR Ops management packs. Customers will have support on these management packs through the end of 2016, however these will bug fixes only. In 2017 customers requiring NSX operations management, and who are current users of vR Ops, should convert over to Network Insight as the vR Ops networking management packs will no longer be current with most customer’s infrastructures (NSX for vSphere, Log Insight, and many physical networks components).

Q: How will the integration into GSS services work?

A: NEW customers (post 8/1) – use normal VMware support access points EXISTING Arkin customers (before 8/1) – use existing Arkin support access points (for now). We will be transitioning to the standard VMware process (MyVMware & VMW support numbers). Integration will cut over around 9/1 and customers will be issued with VMware entitlements. Before VMworld, we will be communicating the entitlements and new support on VMware systems.

Q: How does this affect the NSX and MPND Mgmt Packs?

A: VMware is in the process of winding down all feature development and taking end of sale, end of life action on both the NSX for vSphere vR Ops management pack and the MPND vR Ops management pack. Customers will have support on these management packs through the end of 2016, however these will be bug fixes only. In 2017 customers requiring NSX operations management, and who are current users of vR Ops, should convert over to Network Insight as the vR Ops networking management packs will no longer be current with most customer’s infrastructures (NSX for vSphere, Log Insight, and many physical networks components).

The most important call to action, is for any greenfield customer engagements, where the customer is evaluating NSX operations management tools, please position vRealize Network Insight and Log Insight. Do not continue selling vRealize Operations Manager for any NSX or network related use cases.

Current NSX Customers who have deployed vRealize Ops with NSX or MPND Management Packs

Q: What do I say to NSX customers who have been using in production either the NSX for vSphere vR Ops management pack or the MPND vR Ops management pack?

A: Please explain to them the deeper analytic intelligence that vRealize Network Insight offers, via Netflow data, and that this technology addresses a broader number of operations use cases as a result. vR Ops with the NSX mgmt. pack covered operationally the NSX management and control plane layers, where vRealize Network Insight covers all

three (management, control and the data plane). The added data plane intelligence of vRealize Network Insight offers better visibility, end to end troubleshooting, traffic segmentation analytics, and latency/flow data. Given this more comprehensive offering VMware will be end of sale and end of life the vR Ops NSX and MPND management packs. This becomes a dead end path for customers.

Please ask them to evaluate the Network Insight with the standard VMware 30 day eval license. If they wish to convert over to Network Insight please contact Cloud Management Busines Unit (CMBU) product management for discussing trade in allowances. Trade in allowances are only for those customers who have deployed vR Ops with the NSX management pack, or MPND.

Q: Can customers convert their vRealize Operations Management base product licenses over to vRealize Network Insight?

A: No. First there is no direct mapping of features and functionality as vR Ops is positioned for SDDC compute and storage and vRealize Network Insight is positioned for SDDC networking/NSX. Second, as a pre-requisite for using vRealize Network Insight, customers must have NSX running on their vSphere hosts, and must purchase vRealize Network Insight by the number of these NSX CPU licenses.

NSX Customers who are currently evaluating vR Ops with the NSX or MPND Mgmt Packs

Q: What do I say to NSX customers who have been running proof of concepts for either the NSX for vSphere vR Ops management pack or the MPND vR Ops management pack?

A: Please explain to them the deeper analytic intelligence that vRealize Network Insight offers, via Netflow data, and how this technology addresses a broader number of operations use cases as a result. vR Ops with the NSX mgmt. pack covered operationally the NSX management and control plane layers, where vRealize Network Insight covers all three (management, control and the data plane). The added data plane intelligence of vRealize Network Insight offers

better visibility, end to end troubleshooting, traffic segmentation analytics, and latency/flow data. Given this more comprehensive offering VMware will be end of sale and end of life the vR Ops NSX and MPND management packs. This becomes a dead end path for customers.

Please ask them to evaluate the Network Insight with the standard VMware 60 day eval license.

Non-NSX Customers who are currently evaluating vR Ops with the MPND Mgmt Packs

Q: What do I say to customers who have been using the vR Ops MPND with vSphere, but not NSX?

A: First, this customer is more than likely a good candidate for NSX. You should be discussing a network assessment of their vSphere clusters installations, and showcase the Netflow analytics capability of vRealize Network Insight, via the NSX Assessment tool. This should create very positive awareness for vRealize Network Insight, and start you and your customer down the migration path of NSX with vRealize Network Insight. If the customers proceed down this path, once they have vRealize Network Insight in production, there will be no need for vR Ops with MPND. This results in a natural and graceful migration over to vRealize Network Insight.

If the customer is not interested in the above proactive selling motion, migration over to vRealize Network Insight, then you will have to disclose the end of life, end of sale roadmap for MPND, and the fact that this offering will be in a bug fix only mode in 2017. There will be no MPND enhancements for broadening the types of networks discovered, for improving the topology views, and most importantly for providing traffic forwarding views. All of these features are part of the vRealize Network Insight roadmap

Q: What if the customer is not interested in deploying NSX but would like network operations management of VSS, VDS, and/or the physical data center network; can they use Network Insight here?

A: Not for 2016. VMware is limiting the release of Network Insight, for the operations and micro-segmentation management of NSX only, through 2016. This it to limit

VMware product and support exposure. There are several product unknowns with a limited technical staff that can support Network Insight; we do not want to over subscribe this team by taking on too big of product agenda.

Q: What if my customer is not interested in NSX and needs basic network monitoring and analytics within vR Ops; What do I sell or tell them?

A: Sell them nothing at this time. vR Ops is going through a series of changes where there will be better integrated use cases of compute, storage and networking, all contained within the same user interface. Examples include SDDC troubleshooting, workload mobility, SDDC capacity analytics. While the NSX and the MPND management pack technologies will be re-used here, the roadmap for these management packs as independent offerings, with independent downloads is being stopped. There will be a much different form factor which will be announced later this year.

Q: How will vRealize Network Insight and GSS work?

A: New customers (post 8/1) with SnS entitlements for vRealize Network Insight will use normal VMware support access points

Existing Arkin customers and new customers from any direct or Arkin partner deals closed before 8/1 - Continue to use the existing Arkin support access points for now - Will transition to follow our standard VMware processes 1) Once they get issued VMware entitlements2) We’ll be communicating entitlements and the steps toaccess support on VMware systems during August 3) Integration cutover will be after September for legacycustomers to use MyVMware / VMW phone numbers

Q: How will the integration with PSO services offerings work?

A: PSO is still going through their due diligence.. - First Service – vRealize Network Insight will be added to the Micro-Segmentation Design and Deploy offering - Second Service: Coming soon 1) Separate service module for vRealize Network Insightinstallation and configuration

2) Easily added to any NSX engagement3) Part of the Design and Deploy catalog
