11. INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICANTS

SOME FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The detailed application procedure and admission requirements are described in the VLIR publication “International Study Opportunities in Flanders, Belgium”. This publication lists the various courses taught at Flemish universities funded by VLIR and describes the application procedure and admission requirements for the International Courses (ICPs) and the International Training Programmes (ITPs), as well as the scholarships available for these programmes. This publication can also be downloaded through the following link: http://www.vliruos.be (see Scholarships).

From 2008 on, you are obliged to make an online application for the programmes from the Hasselt University, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the University of Antwerp on top of the VLIR application . However, the procedure for Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (some documents are to be sent to K.U.Leuven, some to VLIR) differs from that for the Hasselt University and the University of Antwerp (all documents are to be sent to VLIR). An application for a VLIR scholarship for programmes organised by these three universities that is not accompanied by an online application will be rejected!

Apply online through the following links: Katholieke Universiteit Leuven: www.kuleuven.be/applicationform

PRACTICAL INSTRUCTIONS

10

Page 11: VLIR Application Form 2008 2009 Office)

Checklist for composing the application file

Below (12.) you will find a checklist that is meant to enable you to check, prior to submission of your application, whether your application meets the formal admission requirements. This checklist consists of four parts, each relating to the respective aspects of the application: applicant, application file, mode of application and submission. Each of those parts enables you to check whether a specific part of the application form meets the formal admission requirements.

1. The first part (“applicant”) helps you to check whether you meet the admission requirements related to your person, like maximum age. 2. The part “application file” enables you to verify whether you filled in the application form correctly, and to check the list of documents you

need to send to VLIR. This list will help you to make sure that you collected the necessary documents to send to VLIR for your respective programme. Remember that for the programmes from the Hasselt University, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the University of Antwerp you are obliged to make an online application for the university concerned, on top of the VLIR application. However, the procedure for K.U.Leuven (some documents are to be sent to K.U.Leuven, some to VLIR) differs from that for the Hasselt University and the University of Antwerp (all documents are to be sent to VLIR).

3. The third part, ”mode of application”, gives you the possibility to make sure that your file is complete and sent, to the correct destination.4. Finally you will have to verify if you will meet the deadline.

Please note that it is your responsibility to make sure that your application does not conflict with your country’s national regulations.

Submission of the application file

The thoroughly completed application form (hard copy), together with all the necessary documents should reach VLIR before the 1st of February 2008.

Send the completed application form with all the documents to: VLIR Scholarship officeBolwerksquare 1AB-1050 BrusselsBELGIUM
