CLASSES RESUME THURSDAY, SEPTEMER 3, 2020 (stay tuned for more information regarding the 2020-2021 school year.)

Hello! Bonjour! We have made it to June in the most challenging school year to date and one thing I know for sure is that Vickers Vikings are resilient and were ready to conquer anything – even a virus!

We started out 2019-20 with such hope and enthusiasm and it showed in the hard work that all of you did on our reading goal. We did so many fun activities: Superhero Reading in the Dark, Reading Minute Challenge, Reading Bingo, and our online choose your own adventure book!

We participated in fun activities like the Turkey Trot, Halloween Family Night, the Christmas play, French Carnival, and Pink Shirt Day. We had our first parent evening focusing on supporting our kids and their mental health. We welcomed newcomers to Canada in our EAL classroom and made new friends! We purchased new playground equipment (install coming in summer 2020!) and started a two year fundraiser for an outdoor learning space. All of these things were successes in building a strong community.

In March, schooling as we knew it was suspended but that did not stop our learning! Our staff explored every resource and put together a supplemental learning program for our students. Their hard work and determination to succeed in this new way of teaching made me so proud! I was also so impressed with all of our students who were ready to learn and participate. We were truly Vikings exploring unchartered waters but we did it!

We also never got a chance to say goodbye to each other, which is tough. One group of students we are saying a special farewell to is our Grade 8 Class of 2020. Thank you for being leaders in our school and being an example of what it means to be a Viking. We wish you success in high school and know you will make us proud! Please come back to visit us and let us know how life is going for you in high school!

We also have staff that are leaving us and moving on in different ways. First, we have two staff who are retiring from teaching. Mme Elliott and Ms. Fehr have had long and successful teaching careers and we hope they enjoy a well-deserved retirement. Thank you for the dedication to our students and for being treasured colleagues.

We also have several staff embarking on new journeys . . . farewell:Mme Ntibategera Mme Bilodeau (new baby August 2020)Mrs. Hayunga Mme BoursiquotMrs. Polowski Mr. BasarabaMrs. Sinoski Mrs. KuzmaMiss Wooden Ms. SinclairMr. Primeau

It is also bittersweet to say goodbye to one of my admin partners. Mr. Tait was one of our wonderful vice-principals at Vickers and we will miss him as he moves on to be the new principal at West Central Public School. You will be amazing!

“Goodbyes are not forever . . . they are not the end . . . They simply mean we’ll miss you until

we meet again.”

We continue to make plans for the 2020-21 school year and are excited to start working on our new math goal, please stay tuned as we learn more about what the school year will look like. Bonnes vacances d’été! I wish all of our families a restful summer – stay safe and see you soon!

Introducing the New Vice-Principal for 2020-2021 . . .

Hello,

My name is Mr. Tyler Kuzma and I am very excited to be joining the École Vickers Public School community in the fall as the new Vice Principal. While I will be new to the staff at the school, I have had the wonderful

experience of being a student at École Vickers and a member of the community. I have been a teacher for the past 10 years in which I have gained experience teaching all grade levels from Grade 1 to Grade 12, both here in

Prince Albert and in two different rural schools within the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School Division.

I know from experience that the École Vickers Public School community has always fostered a strong learning environment for all students, while offering a multitude of extracurricular activities and clubs which engage, support and inspire students to grow. I look forward to helping all students and staff continue to grow the

positive mindset that École Vickers has established.

As an educator I believe in supporting learning communities as a positive, collaborative group that prompts and promotes the building of strong relationships. I am a true believer in the idea of relationships transcending the school environment and, with that in mind, I welcome any and all positive communication that will expand the

learning at École Vickers Public School.

I hope that everyone is able to have a great summer and I look forward to meeting you in the upcoming school year.

Mr. Tyler Kuzma

To our Grade 8 Class of 2020, we may not have been able to say goodbye the way we wanted and we may not have been able to celebrate you the way we had planned but, we all want you to

know that we are so very proud of you. Thank you for being leaders in our school. Thank you for the energy you brought to Vickers!Thank you for being you! We wish you much success in your high

school career, knowing that you can accomplish great things!

Grade 6 Immunization News!!Dear grade 6 parents, due to COVID-19 and school closures, we were unable to finish off your child’s grade 6 immunizations. For most students this is their 2nd dose of Hepatitis B and HPV. We are opening up clinics at

the public health office to accommodate students. Please call Public Health at 306-765-6510 to book an appointment time. There are no walk in clinics.

As it is nearing the end of the school year, is there a special memory you have of your teacher? Why not write your teacher a letter telling them all about it. Your teacher would love to hear from you! You could also include what your plans for the summer are. Mail your letter to the school and the secretaries will make sure your teacher receives it.

Mail your letter, addressed to your teacher, to:

École Vickers Public School

2800 Bradbury Drive

Prince Albert, SK

S6V 7K8

Here are a few other activities that you can do, even throughout summer vacation!

1. Create a sidewalk chalk exercise course or a life size games, like Twister or Snakes and Ladders

2.  Write positive words phrases on your sidewalk using chalk for others to see

3. Send letters to the nursing homes in Prince Albert to any of the residences there.  You can write a letter talking about your likes, travels, if you have a pet etc. and it will be delivered to a resident at the nursing home.  They may even write you back if you include your mail address.
