Voiceover Vellore Institute of Technology situated in the historic city of Vellore was founded in 1984 by Mr. G.

Viswanathan under the name of Vellore Engineering College. The institute was conferred the "Deemed University" status in recognition of its academic excellence, by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, in June 2001.

Voiceover The main pillars of VIT are Mr. G Vishwanathan, Chancellor gave up his successful political career to dedicate his life for the noble cause of education and

to become an illustrious educationist. His clear vision of the college even during its inception has made the college what it is today.

Mr. G V Selvam, Pro-chancellor of VIT is a Mr. G.V. Selvam, a Computer Science graduate of the University of Madras is a dynamic young man who recently assumed the office of Pro-Chancellor.

Prior to his assuming charge as Vice-Chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology Dr. P.RADHAKRISHNAN, B.Sc [Engg], M.Tech., Ph.D was the Principal of P.S.G. College of Technology, Coimbatore where he served for more than 3 decades since 1970. During his service at PSG Tech. he has been instrumental in developing several programmes in Undergraduate and Postgraduate level as well as setting up several specialized laboratories and a Science and Technology Entrepreneurial Park.

Mr. G.V. Selvam, a Computer Science graduate of the University of Madras is a dynamic young man who recently assumed the office of Pro-Chancellor. Worthy son of the Chairman, as he is, he stands on the solid foundation of the principles of his father, and guides and controls the day to day affairs of the college with supreme confidence and dedication. With his sense of commitment and initiative, he is giving form and shape to the great and noble vision of attaining the unexcelled academic excellence cherished by his father. With his easy accessible nature and sweet temperament, he has won the hearts of the students and the staff alike.

Ed CIL and COPTED

Voiceover Foreign students are admitted to the college under an

agreement with Educational Consultants India Limited [Ed CIL], a Govt. of India Enterprise working for the admission of foreign students to Indian institutions. Ten institutions of repute in India have joined together to form a consortium known as Overseas Projects in Technical Education [COPTED] and VIT is one among them. The main objective of this consortium is to provide technical education to foreign students in India and offer guidance to foreign institutions.

Technology Business Incubator

Voiceover Technology Business incubator (TBI) is an entity, which helps technology start-up businesses with, all the

necessary resources / support that the start-up needs to evolve and grow as a mature business. Typically, TBIs provide incubatees, the start-up businesses supported by incubator, with necessary infrastructure support, technology/ prototype development support, research assistance, help in getting funding, business consulting assistance and do whatever is necessary to make the start-up a success. VIT-TBI is situated inside the University of Vellore Institute of Technology. Hence, VIT-TBI leverages all the resources that are available within the campus such as access to laboratory, workshops, development and testing centers, computing resources, internet access and above all the human resources. In addition to these resources, VIT-TBI also has a network of eminent professionals, academicians, bankers, venture capitalists and businessmen, who can extend support to these ventures.

Center for Industry - Institute Interaction (CIII)

Voiceover The centre for Industry – Institute Interaction was setup with the prime objective of

promoting mutually beneficial Programs and Professional activities. The College has started an Industry Associateship Scheme. The members become eligible to seek guidance & consultancy from Faculty and access Library Internet facilities and attend Technology Appreciation Programs.

The Technology Appreciation Programs are normally organized once in a month. CIII invites the industries and organizations in and around Vellore, Chennai and Bangalore to attend the Program. Through these lectures, both the Faculty members and industries come to know of the recent developments that are taking place in the industrial scene both in India and abroad. This enables the Departments to identify research areas & develop technology appropriate and relevant to the local scenario.

Development VIT

Social Activities

Voiceover VIT in its endeavour to make an individual whole is dedicated to

making its students social responsible citizens. The Institutes Youth Red Cross Unit conducts periodic literacy and awareness lectures, tree planting and blood donation programs and free medical camps in villages and townships around Vellore. First aid demonstration classes are also conducted beside alcohol and tobacco awareness programs.

VIT also conducts community outreach programs in line with its philosophy of contributing to the public good. Extension course are undertaken under the GV School Development Program to help schools mainly in the villages around Vellore by establishing Computer centre and donating computers and other educational aids.
