1920Parents believed children needed strict schedules and discipline.

More parents were involved in the PTA. A lot of racial tension was going on during this time.

The Great Depression. Dick and Jane books were popular. It was hard for schools to stay open. Many people listened to the radio and went to see movies.

World War II. College became available to more people. TV became public with 13 stations. Computers were also developed. Frozen dinners were popular since mothers were working and fathers were away at war.

End of WWII. Baby Boom began. Schools were to be equal for all children in America. Parents were involved in the schools but they were to be there to be support for the teacher.

Father and child involvement was the main focus. War on Poverty was formed. The first Head Start was opened.

Research showed early enriched environments helped with the child’s success in school. Floppy disks and the VCR were developed. Divorce rate was high. During this time people were really pushing for equal rights.

1980Families were very stressed with finance issues, drugs, finding good child care, working many hours, etc. Teenage pregnancies were common. Higher salaries were offered.

Internet was developed. This was a very violent decade. Charter schools became available. Family involvement became the main focus.
