The Karma Kagyu Lineage is one of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism.This lineage focuses on view, meditation and the direct, living transmission of theexperience of the nature of mind, from teacher to student.

Its origin dates back to the historical Buddha, whose teachings were passed on todifferent meditation masters in India over 1500 years. About 1000 AD this trans-mission came to Tibet and in the 12th century formed the Karma Kagyu Lineage,which has been kept living and powerful in unending succession by the GyalwaKarmapas until today.

The Gyalwa Karmapas, whose name means “Master of Activity”, were the firstconsciously reborn Lamas of Tibet. The first was predicted by the BuddhaShakyamuni, as a master with extraordinary abilities.

His 16th reincarnation, Rangjung Rigpe Dorje, by passing on the teachings, madeit possible that the knowledge of the Karma Kagyu Lineage on the nature of mindwould be known in the west. He died in 1981, near Chicago.

The present day 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Trinlay Thaye Dorje was born in Tibet in1983. He was recognised as the authentic incarnation in 1994, by H.H. KunzigShamar Rinpoche, the responsible second highest teacher of the Karma KagyuLineage. In 1994, he fled from Chinese-occupied Tibet to the freedom of India.

Since then he has been gaining the traditional Buddhist and a western education,meditating and leading official ceremonies and events. His first international tea-ching tour in 1999/ 2000 brought him to Asia and Europe where he was receivedby tens of thousands of his students.

By invitation from the European Karma Kagyu centers, Gyalwa Karmapa will visitEurope for 2 months this summer and give teachings and initiations. We aredelighted that Gyalwa Karmapa Thaye Dorje will visit Europe as there will be manychances for his students to meet him and receive teachings.
