Q&A For Tuberculosis Chest X-ray Test

Q: Why do I have to take a tuberculosis test?

A: It’s because all the healthcare workers are required to take the TB test upon hire, allowing the

employer to have a baseline TB test. This can be used to compare it to the subsequent TB test results,

if necessary, to identify any potential work exposure. South Korea has the highest incidence rate of

TB among members of the OECD country.

Q. Who should take the test? A: Those visiting fellows who will be staying in Korea for more than a month.

Q. How much does the test cost?

A: Around 55,000 KRW ($50) = Two consultations (45,000 KRW) + Chest X-ray Test (10,000 KRW)

We have set an agreed price just like a Korean citizen with a medical insurance. We will be covering

the difference.

※ Only Tuberculosis Test will be covered by KUMC.

Q. What is the whole process for this? A: After the orientation at the IFA Center on the first day of your training,

1. Visit the International Health Care Center (on the 2nd floor) for an initial/preliminary

diagnostic assessment with our physician. Please take your ID badge that has been provided.

2. Go to the Administration Office (on the 3rd floor) to pay the Chest X-ray bill.

3. Take the X-ray test at the Radiology Department (on the 3rd floor).

4. Revisit the International Health Care Center (on the 2nd floor) for your result. Your result will

be read by your physician.

5. Please inform IFA staff of your test result.

Q. How can I pay for the fee?

A: You can use either a credit / debit card or cash.

- Cash: you can exchange your money for Korean Won at Hana bank located on the 4th floor.

Q. When do I need to take the test?

A: Within a week of your arrival

Q. Where should I go for the test? A: The International Health Care Center on the 2nd floor. You will be directed to the radiology

department from there.

Q. How long will the whole process will take?

A: It will take one or two days. An hour to see the physician for the initial diagnostic assessment and

take a chest X-ray. Then, it will take a day or less to get the test result by revisiting a doctor on the

following day.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact International Faculty Affairs Center,

[email protected] / 82-2-920-6894 / 82-2-10-4505-1229 (Office Hour: 9:30 AM – 5 PM)

That’s possible, as long as there are no recognizable patients’, staffs’, physicians’ faces.

5) What if the patient is already passed away, how can I get a consent?

Still, you MUST exclude all the personal information for patient rights and patients’ autonomy.

6) Can I take a photo in front of a cadaver?

NO. It is unethical and disrespectful. Furthermore, it violates the Decency Act.

7) Can I take pictures of the medical machineries?

Yes. You can, as long as there’s no personal information is shown on the screen, such as name, initials,

address, or date of birth, etc.

8) What if there’s an emergency, can I get involved or at least perform CPR?

No. When in the medical building, licensed physicians or facility affiliates should do it.
