Dear Parishioners and Friends:

This week we begin our Lenten Journeys of

Faith. Lent is, throughout the Church, a special time

of fasting and abstinence designed to lead us to

personal and communal conversion. It has been

traditionally honored as a great opportunity to do

penance.

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

This week we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of

Pentecost and the Feast of Saint Peter and Paul.

The Feast of Saints Peter and Paul, or as the

Roman Catholic Church refers to it as the Solemnity

of Peter and Paul, is a liturgical feast in honor of the

martyrdom in Rome of the apostles Saint Peter and

Saint Paul, which is observed on 29 June annually.

This celebration is of ancient origin, the date selected

being the anniversary of their death or of the

translation of their relics.

By referring to this Feast as a Solemnity, tells

us that it is a first-class feast. Similar to the Feasts of

Mary's Assumption and Immaculate Conception. For

us as Maronites it is a Holy Day of Obligation, as it is

in the Roman Church. However, Individual

conferences of bishops can suppress the obligation. In

our case it has not been suppressed.

The two icons on the altar wall of our

Sanctuary are adorned with the two great Apostles,

reminding us to witness as they did to the Gospel of

Weekly Collections

Summer is still upon us for at least the next 6

weeks, temperature wise. I know parents are spending

money on their children to get them "ready" for back

to school. You may have spent more on your vacation

than you planned. You may be hoping for a few more

weeks at the beach or on vacation.

We also have many expenses here at the

Cathedral. Even though we have been getting a good

sum of money from our rent, we still have to maintain

our Budget. We have been depending too much on the

outside income. Over the past seven or eight weeks

the collection has been very poor. I am asking all

parishioners to help in making up their sacrificial -

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

This week we encounter that beautiful joining

of two special women; Mary and Elizabeth, both of

whom have encountered the Divine.

I pray that ach of us may also encounter the

Divine, through our love for Christ and for each other.

may the Christ child, Emmanuel grace us in our entire

being as we sincerely await His coming among us.

Listen to His voice!

Thought for the Week

"Are we ready to receive Him? Before the birth

of Jesus, his parents asked for a simple dwelling place,

but there was none. If Mary and Joseph were looking

for a home for Jesus, would they choose...your heart,

and all it holds? Let us pray that we shall be able to

welcome Jesus at Christmas..."
