PERPETUAL ADORATION CHAPEL: A Hidden Treasure at Visitation
Last month a New York couple found a buried, long hidden treasure in their backyard. What they assumed was
just an electrical or cable box, turned out to be a buried safe containing over $50,000 in valuables.
Here at Visitation we have a hidden treasure too. Behind the Visitation school and attached to the convent of the
Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth “hides” the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Maybe you have ignored it in the past,
maybe you feel too harried to stop in and visit Jesus, truly present in the Blessed Sacrament.
Now is your time to avail yourself of this valuable treasure. Day and night, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week a personal
relationship with your Lord and Savior awaits your unwrapping and discovery.

TRANSFER & ARCHDIOCESAN ASSIGNMENT: We received word from the Office for Clergy that
the archdiocese is giving an assignment to Fr. Andrew Labatorio, CICM that takes effect in the
middle of June. This is part of the process for Fr. Andrew to become a priest of our archdiocese, &
the Church’s Code of Canon Law stipulates that when a priest comes into a diocese from another
place, there is a 5 year waiting period before he is fully incorporated into the diocese (the techni-
cal term is ‘incardination’). The custom is for the priest to be placed in a couple or several differ-
ent parishes over the duration of the waiting period. Fr. Andrew is being assigned to St. Patrick’s
parish in Malvern—in Chester County, & his start date there will be June 18th. His final weekend
with us here will be June 16-17, & you will have an opportunity to personally wish him well after
all the Masses that weekend in the Larkin Center. I am grateful for Fr. Andrew’s time with us here
at Visitation: Fr. Brian & I will miss him, as will also many of our parishioners. Needless to say,
we are now no longer three priests serving here but are back to only two—which means that we
will be stretched in terms of caring for the parish’s pastoral needs. Please be aware of this: your
cooperation, patience & understanding is greatly appreciated!

VISITATION BVM CYO UPDATES:
Fall Coaches Needed: Our CYO Program is in need of several coaches for the 2018 Fall
Sports Season. We need JV and Varsity coaches for Football, Field Hockey, Soccer, and Volleyball. If
you are able to donate your time and talent, please contact Fran Greek, Chief Adult Advisor,
at [email protected]. Without coaches, we are not able to support our teams. All coaches need to
have current clearances. All CYO sessions are available to Visitation BVM School and PREP stu-
dents. You must be a registered member of our school or PREP classes to register and participate in our
program. (Visitation Gladiator Football does allow participation from partner parishes.) Our JV sports programs are opened
to our 5th and 6th grade students. Varsity sports are open to our 7th and 8th grade students. Our Pee Wee programs are offered
for our K-4 grade students. Our Pee Wee programs include soccer in the fall; basketball in the winter; track and cheer in the
spring. We publish all important registration dates and provide communication updates through our weekly One Call Now
CYO Update, Sports Illustrated Play system, and in the weekly Church bulletin. Sports Illustrated Play is our system of re-
cord. This system is where all registration is done. Our rosters are created from this system and submitted to the region for
approval. It is our primary source of communication. It is extremely important that all families keep their accounts updated

On May 19th six men were ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput. At the Ordination Mass he began his homily with a quote from St. John Vianney who said, “Were we [priests] to realize what the priesthood is here on earth we would not die of fright but of love.” St. John Vianney, the Cure of Ars, is the patron saint of priests. His journey to the priesthood was arduous because of his lack of education, but he persisted and consequently held the priesthood in the highest regard. The following, like Archbishop Chaput’s quote, is an excerpt from a beautiful sermon he gave on the priesthood. “What is a priest? A man who holds the place of God – a man who is invested with all the powers of God. “Go”, said the Lord to the priest, “as my Father sent me, I send you. All power has been given Me in Heaven and on earth. Go then, teach all nations…He who listens to you, listens to Me; he who despises you despises Me.” When the priest remits sins, he does not say, “God pardons you”; he says, “I absolve you.” At the Consecration , he does not say, “This is the Body of Our Lord”; he says, “This is My Body.” St. Bernard tells us that everything comes through Mary; and we may also say that everything has come to us through the priest; yes, all happiness, all graces, all heavenly gifts. If we had not the Sacrament of Orders, we should not have Our Lord. Who placed Him there in that tabernacle? It was the priest. Who was it that received your soul, on its entrance into life? The priest. Who nourishes it, to give it strength to make its pilgrimage? The priest. Who will prepare it to appear before God, by washing that soul, for the last time, in the blood of Jesus Christ? The priest-always the priest. And if that soul comes to the point of death, who will raise it up, who will restore it to calmness and peace? Again the priest… If I were to meet a priest and an angel, I should salute the priest before I saluted the angel. The latter is the friend of God; but the priest holds his place. St. Theresa [of Avila] kissed the ground where a priest had passed. When you see a priest, you should say, “There is he who made me a child of God, and opened Heaven to me by holy Baptism; he who purified me after I had sinned; who gives nourishment to my soul.” At the sight of a church tower, you may say, “What is there in that place?” “The Body of Our Lord.” “Why is He there?” “Because a priest has been there and has said holy Mass.”... The priesthood is the love of the Heart of Je-sus. When you see the priest, think of Our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Respect Life
+ “How shall I make a return to the LORD for all the good
He has done for me?” Psalm 116
It’s a straightforward question isn’t it? If the an-
swer is illusive, perhaps it is because the origins of our
“goods” are easily forgotten. Dr. Scott Hahn, theology pro-
fessor at Franciscan University of Steubenville believes that
although America was founded by bold, rugged men bravely
forging their imprint in a new world, no longer tied to the
confines of their past—it’s a mixed blessing. As Americans,
we admire the freedom, talent and tenacity of the individual
pioneer ethic. However, when the True Origin of our talents
is ignored, when humility is lost, and talents are taken for
granted and used only for self-gratification, these traits can
lead to isolation, greed and selfishness. In his book, The
First Society, Dr. Hahn teaches a basic (but often neglected)
lesson, “Nobody is born an individual [or] citizen. You’re
born as a son or daughter. The relational matrix into which
we enter life is a family.” God gave us His Son--Christ en-
tered our lives into a family of a man and a woman--this
was, is and always will be our gift from Him—we were not
meant to work as individuals for ourselves but for the greater
good of our marriages, family, community and world.
Historically, June has been the month of weddings
(and, hopefully, the commemoration of anniversaries). Re-
cently a couple celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary
was asked the secret they attributed to the lengthy fulfillment
of their commitment. Their reply was, “We struggle!” Dr.
Hahn maintains we need,...“to recognize that God gives us
what we need…He makes up for what we lack, but only
when we acknowledge how weak we are and how much we
lack.” Living as individual members of “The First Society”
we need to “...shift the center of gravity from politics to
faith…in the concrete, practical, lived experience of people
struggling to be faithful…loving…humble and forgiving in
their marriages. …Individualism needs to be replaced with a
culture of family and recognizing that the family is the face
of the society and not subject to legal redefinition.”
Dr. Hahn believes the greatest gift we can give to
our nation and family “…is our faith, not only lived out
more fully but also understood more fully. …The culture
will flourish to the extent that marriages and families flour-
ish.”
Dr. Hahn helps us to recognize where our gifts come from
and what we must give. What then is the answer to the
Psalmist’s question? “How shall I make a return to the
LORD for all the good He has done for me?” The how is in
the words of John Paul II the Great, “To defeat injustice
with justice, falsehood with truth, vengeance with forgive-
ness, hate with love.”

All parishioners are welcome to attend if you would like to see
the RCIA in action or you would like to refresh your own knowl-
edge of our rich Faith. Sessions are completed for the 2017/18

All are invited to the 3rd Annual Polka Fest at the TK Club
at 521 East Hector Street in Conshohocken on Sunday,
June 24th from Noon to 5 pm to support St. Mary Polish
American Society. This event will feature live Polka music,
delicious Polish food, a 50/50 drawing and other games of
chance, a basket raffle, and baked goods for sale. Families are wel-
come, as there will be games for children with plenty of prizes!
Admission is $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the event. Ad-
mission for children is $7 each and free for children under 6. Please

Often people attend Mass at Visitation B.V.M. Church for several years, but do not register with
the parish. Others delay registering until they are asked to be a godparent or Confirmation
sponsor, would like to have their own child baptized, or would like to schedule a wedding or a
funeral at the parish. Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a
Catholic community. If you are not currently a member of our parish and live within the parish
boundaries, we invite you to consider registering with us and making a commitment to the life of Visitation B.V.M.
Church. Register at the Rectory, Monday-Thursday, from 9am to 7pm, Friday 9am to 4pm.
WERE YOU ASKED TO BE A GODPARENT FOR THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM? “A person to be baptized is to be given a sponsor who assists as an adult in Christian initiation or together with the parents presents an infant
for baptism. A sponsor also helps the baptized person to lead a Christian life in keeping with their baptism and to fulfill faithfully the obligations
inherent in it” (Code of Canon Law, 872).
Listed below are a few of the requirements to be a Godparent:
I am at least sixteen (16) years of age.
I have received the Sacraments of Christian Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist) in the Catholic Church.
I am living – and intend to live in conformity with the laws of the Catholic Church regarding marriage. For instance: If I am divorced
and have remarried, my previous marriage has been annulled and I am remarried in the Catholic Church. If I am divorced and have
not remarried, I am living the vocation of the single life in conformity with the Catholic Church. I am not cohabitating with someone
outside the Sacrament of Marriage. I attend Mass on Sundays and Holydays of Obligation and receive the sacraments of the church
(Holy Eucharist and Penance) regularly. I understand and accept these responsibilities which I undertake and promise to pay special
attention to the person to be baptized.
Metanoia is an active community of Catholic young adults in western Montgomery County, PA. The group supports Catholics in their 20s
and 30s who are looking to deepen their faith and meet fellow Catholics in the area. Our ministry includes: Theology on Tap, faith- based
meetings, community service, retreats, and outdoor events. We meet on Tuesdays at 7:30pm unless otherwise noted. Our upcoming
