PETER EASTWAY LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY BUSINESS 1. Planning A Business From Landscape Photography: Is it possible to make money photographing landscapes? Yes! This idyllic lifestyle can be a reality, but it requires some sensible planning. Peter will explain several business models – part time and full time – used by successful landscape photographers including himself. Then he will outline the different markets that buy landscape photography – publishers, photo libraries, magazines, travel companies and art galler-ies – and how to approach them. 2. Creating Saleable Landscape Photographs: How does Peter create his own amazing images? What are the most saleable types of photographs? There are many steps required, all achievable once you know how. Peter will guide you through the preliminary issues concerning equipment, materials, lighting and locations, then demonstrate in Photoshop how to quickly refine your images into saleable masterpieces. 3. How To Sell Your Landscape Photographs:Selling your landscape photographs is a matter of defining your market: stock for calendars and greeting cards, travel for magazines and brochures, fine art prints for homes and businesses. How are your clients going to see your work? How much will you charge them? Having explained how he plans a business and creates his amazing photographs, Peter will now spend an hour telling you how he sells them, who to, for how much and where he sees the opportuni-ties for more growth.

Dr Les Walkling is an artist, educator and consultant. He studied science and philosophy at Monash University before turning to fine art photography in 1975, receiving Australia Council Arts grants and exhibiting internationally. His work is in many public collections including The Metropolitan Mu-seum of Art, New York, The Centre for Creative Photography, Arizona, The National Gallery of Australia, Canberra and The National Gallery of Victoria. He is the former Program Director of Media Arts at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia, where he is now a Senior Research Fellow in the School of Art. “I make art out of personal necessity. Most of my images come from larger bodies of work, some finished, some that will never be finished. I make no special claims for the tradi-

tions I’m interested in, beyond their relevance and coherence in my own life. There’s room for many traditions, and they should be respected. I’m simply trying to collect the richness of human significance in the best ways I know how. “My images are an investigation of what it is to have an interest in your own experience. They are photographs of things that can’t be seen. Though most explanations, no mat-ter how fascinating, remain less interesting than the mystery itself. Ultimately it’s the unsolved, unsolvable that beckons me back, that holds my attention. It’s about anticipation, memories, mysteries and speculations, estranged moments, and encounters of untenable loneliness. It’s about owning up to the elusiveness which envelopes us all. “

Darran Leal is one of the world’s most diverse and travelled photographers. Based on the beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, each year he undertakes several major expeditions to regions in the USA, Africa, South America and beyond with new destinations being added all the time. Born and raised in Brisbane, Darran’s career started in 1980 as the photographer on Norfolk Island. He then travelled Australia extensively in the early 1980s, working in locations like Uluru, Kangaroo Island, Perth and in the Far North. Darran’s work has been published around the world and is used extensively in books, magazines and commercial products. He has been commissioned by Qantas, Warner Brothers, the Queensland Government, Australia Post, Steve

Parish Publishing and many other companies to supply unique images. He has also produced many of his own products, including six of his own books. Darran and wife Julia instigated Australia’s first and currently only licenced travel agency dedicated to photographers – SafarIWise. They offer travel services around the world, including unique photo tours and workshops. “My life has never been one of sitting around and waiting for things to happen. Rather, I get out and explore, touch, catch, view, experience and savor every unique moment. Unlike many photographers, I do not specialise in one area. I shoot everything from the smallest insect to the grandest landscape or unique culture.”
