Sir, Sewage waterhas been overflowingfrom the manholechamber next to 20,Madley Road, T. Nagarfor several days.

No action has beentaken in spite ofrepeated complaintsto Metrowaterofficials.

It is a severe health

Sewage water overflow, garbage woes near Madley subway

hazard and has also led to proliferation of mosquitoes. To add to the problem, garbage is also dumped around the garbage bins kept on the road

margins and also on the roadside and pavements. The unhygienic condition is a major healthhazard for passersby and nearby residents. When Chennai Corporation is actively promotingrecycling of waste in each zone by encouraging source segregation and constructing compostpits in public parks and other venues, the residents, eateries and commercial establishmentsshould support its endeavour by not dumping waste in public places. Jijo Johny, T. Nagar.

Miscreants remove bollards frompedestrian plaza

Sir, TheG o v e r n m e n thad spent cro-res to developthe pedestrianplaza in PondyBazar (T. Na-gar).

Within a mon-th of itsinauguration, vandalism hasalready started. The bollards fixed on thepavements are being removed by miscreants, making way for parking of 2-wheelers and attimes even riding of 2-wheelers when there isheavy traffic on the road.

The picture shows the post removed at theentrance to Big Bazaar. I hope the trafficofficials take immediate action to safeguardthe utilities provided on the plaza. Themiscreant should be identified from CCTVgrabs and punished. R. Satyamurti, T. Nagar.

Sir, The road margin alongside the compoundwall of Krishna Gana Sabha (MaharajapuramSanthanam Salai, T. Nagar) has beenearmarked by the Sabha for parking of itsvehicles. It has erected sign boards to thiseffect. Is it a part of Smart City program toauthorize private bodies to usurp public roads?

The traffic officials should take immediateaction to remove the sign boards. R.Satyamurti, T. Nagar

Sabha blocks public space for parking

Brindavan Street Extn. should bemade one way

Sir, Brindavan Street Extn. up to Pothysjunction should be made one way as the streetremains traffic-ridden throughout the day, more so during the peak morning and eveninghours.

Since this is a key connection to WestMambalam and adjoining areas, the streetshould be made one way to reduce trafficcongestion and divert the traffic to nearbyroads. R. Sekar, Flat 1, Swati Swarnam, 7,Thambiah Road, West Mambalam

Don’t invalidate PAN cards notlinked to Aadhaar

Sir, The Income Tax Department hasannounced that Dec. 31 is the deadline forlinking PAN card with Aadhaar, after whichthe PAN card will become invalid or get blocked.

If such a measure is taken, what will happento investments made with it or linked to it? Ithas also been reported that new PAN needs tobe applied for if the unlinked one is blocked.

In such a case, it would be arduous to link thenew PAN with the existing investments, property registration deeds, vehicle docu-ments, bank account and other such legaldocuments/entities.

Instead of forcing applicants to apply for anew PAN, the IT Dept. can temporarily blockthe card till such date it is linked to Aadhaar.R. Krishnamurthy. T. Nagar

Krishnabai Street in batteredcondition

Sir, Krishnabai Street, T. Nagar is in abattered condition. The street was dug up byMetrowater nearly a month back, and it hasnot been relaid.

The narrow street links Balaji Avenue andHabibullah Road with Thirumalai Pillai Roadand has nearly 50 houses.

The potholes are dangerous for motoristsand get hidden in puddles of water after heavyrains. During rains, the street becomes slushyand slippery. Exposed EB cables are runningbetween the junction boxes and the maintransformer on the street, posing the risk ofelectrocution in case of damage to theinsulation.

The residents of the street have appealedseveral times to the officials of ChennaiCorporation and TNEB, but no action hasbeen taken to either relay the battered streetor relay the cables beneath the surface.

I hope that immediate action is taken toresolve the civic issues. R. Parandhaman,Krishnabhai Street, T. Nagar.
