The cover story “Are we alone?” is handpicked from the work ofmy mentor, DimitarSasslov. “Creativity is precious; it is ourbirthright that resides within eachand every one of us, making usspecial and unique.”Red for anger; Yellow for fear;Green for, well of course, GreenLantern!Mix all that and you get somethingthat you won’t even imagineexisted in GITAM. It is none otherthan G-Studio. Each and everymember of G-Studio are alwaysseen with huge grins (If you don’tbelieve me then you can check outtheir FB page). Associating all ofthem with colors wasn’t punintended, but it was done to giveyou an insight about what theyactually do in their free time.Resembling all the above saidcolors, they capture each and everyemotion mentioned in GITAM.

What can I say, photography is theirpassion. They are the ones whomake GITAM a better place (Okay, Iexaggerated a little bit). They catchthe glimpses that you or I fail to see. They see everything as it is, notwhat they want it to be. Theycapture the beauty, the playfulnessand best of all, they take some oftheir precious time to stop andadmire the environment that theylive in.They are our friends and ourclassmates; but to outside world, they are the best photographersthat GITAM can provide. Thefascinating thing about them is thatthey not only capture photos, theirarea of work is also spread out tocinematography and designing.

For some of us, who participated inGUSAC Carnival, know how big of anevent it was and now we are coming tothis epiphany that it was totallycovered by only eight of our fellowmembers! (Astonishing!)GUSAC carnival being their firstofficial event, they didn’t stop just yet.No! They spread; covering each andevery event there is to cover in GITAM.Their latest was the anniversary ofGUSAC which I hope you fellowreaders will read about in ourupcoming issues. But as I was saying, there was nostopping these guys. They evenspread outside GITAM by forming apartnership with a group called VIVANwhich is a club known for itscommunity services. At present, theywere hired by Kalakriti, to designLogos, T-Shirts and Posters for the nextupcoming event in GITAM organized

And the best part is that theseguys also make T-shirts! (Prettycool, huh? Then you should go tomy roommate, one of the co-founders of G-studio.)An interview with one of thefounders spread some light onthis matter that they always hadtalent (DUH!) and they alwayswere kind of freelancers (DOUBLEDUH!) but they have always hadthis hidden desire to dosomething in a group and followtheir passions in photography, cinematography or designing, which gave birth to what we nowproudly call G-Studio.Consisting of only eight members,I feel privileged to speak about agroup that did something no oneelse could. They covered theentire GUSAC carnival.

It’s not a group or club. It’s an activity created by the G-Studio team.Their main aim is to “Cover all unknown faces in GITAM and give themsome recognition,” said my interviewee. “Because each and every oneof us is unique and special in their own way and our main aim is to puteach and every GITAMITE in a frame so that everyone can see them aswe see them. It’s simply an activity to catch spontaneous reactionsand emotions which are not visible when we are posing deliberatelyfor the camera.” G-Face has been very successful so far and due to thisG-Studio is on the verge of being the most liked GITAM page onFacebook. But beware, you don’t know in what shadows they lurk, waiting for the perfect moment to catch a glimpse of you doingsomething that you would later regret.Core Photographers: Mourya Vijay, Revanth, kalyan, Ankith, Keerthan,Pinak, Vikash Mishra, Yogesh(chief editor),Likesh.

Edward Snowden is probably thesecondmostnotoriouswhistle-blower of the currently ongoingmillennium, only to be shadowedby the founder of Wikileaks, JulianAssange. Snowden has managedleak several details on top-secretU.S. and British surveillanceprograms which are nowconsidered to be a mass breach ofprivacy and freedom. The U.S.government retorted by chargingSnowden with theft of governmentproperty, unauthorizedcommunication of nationaldefense information, and willfulcommunication of classifiedintelligence to an unauthorizedperson (June 2013). Snowden iscurrently on the run from theUnited States Government.

Snowden was born and raised inNorth Carolina, U.S.A. He grew upreading Japanese manga and laterstudied the Japanese language. Healso has a basic understanding ofMandarin and has an obsessionwith martial arts. On officialrecords, he lists Buddhism as hisreligion.

After completing his unsuccessfuleducation, Snowden decided toenlist in the United States Army. Hewanted to combat in the Iraq war.He felt that it was his destiny to freepeople from oppression andtyranny happening around theworld. Irony really has a twistedsense of sarcasm as now he mustfight for his own freedom.Unfortunately, his days in the armywere cut short after he broke bothlegs in a training accident. After hisrecovery, he started working as asecurity guard for the Center forAdvanced Study of Language at theUniversity of Maryland. Snowdenlater received a job offer by the CIAas an IT Security agent, which hehappily accepted. According to TheGuardian, Snowden left the CIA tojoin an NSA contracting company, later identified as Dell (Shocking, isn’t it? Dell was a contractor for theNSA). For a single man in America, earning $200,000 per year is wellbeyond a shabby lifestyle. Afterlearning about NSA's surveillanceprograms, which clearly violatedthe constitution, he transferred toHawaii by accepting a lesser payrollof $122,000 per year. This is wherethe plot thickens.

In Hawaii, Edward gathered information about NSA's surveillanceprograms and managed to reveal them to the world. The NSA obviouslyfired him. After Snowden was removed from his job, he decided it wastime to flee America. The NSA has a policy of reporting travel plans 30days before their journey so that they may be properly surveyedthrough out their travels. Using this clause as an opportunity, Snowdenbooked his airplane tickets for him, as well as his girlfriend, to HongKong on the spot without informing the NSA.

Currently Snowden has signed a treaty for temporary assylum in Russia. But the question still remains, is Edward Snowden an awe-inspiring hero?Or is he dastardly villain who has put an entire country under threat? Wehave to remember that these ill methods of the NSA have saved not onlyAmerica but the entire world from mass terror attacks. Compromising theNSA's methods may prove to have distressing results. So I leave the decision to you:Is Edward Snowden a Christ or Anti-Christ?

Three years ago, there was astudent in GITAM, who hadwished to help all the otherstudents who were skilled inArts, Music and Dance but couldnot find the correct platform todevelop and sharpen theirrespective skills. His ambitionwas to setup a student bodywhich focused only on culturalactivities. He was Akhil Mahesh,a first year student at the time.He decided to call it Kalakrithi.

Kalakrithi meaning ‘The form of artand exhibiting this art to the outsideworld’ was a very successful studentbody which focused on the talents inthe forms of music, arts, dance, drama etc. The founder, AkhilMahesh is one from the associatedbands of “Royal School of Music,London”. Assisted by Ajith, Nithin,Priyanka, Joy Solomon, Kalakrithiwas founded on 24th March, 2010 inthe Open Auditorium with a crowd of60 people. The body has workedsince then to bring out the skilledinto lime light. Kalakriti leadershipwas later taken up by Shiva, Snehaand it is now currently lead byDwarakanath. The Auditions for Kalakrithi aretaken once a year, in a well plannedand organized manner. There arevarious categories to audition for;Dance, Vocals, Instrumental andDramatics. The auditions will all takeplace on a single day. Auditions fordance are taken on spot whileinstrumentals and vocals are done instage wise process. The body of 120members divides the work amongthemselves and make the auditionsa grand success.

Kalakrithi has performed in manynational events so far and greatachievements have been made. One ofthese great achievements was a danceperformed by Alchemy, a pop-dancetroupe with about 10 people which hasbagged first prize in NIT WarangalNational Fest. Alchemy has also won manyother college events. Another greatweapon that Kalakrithi possesses is theClassical Gujarati Dance Group of fivegirls who have rocked the show and stolethe first prize of the Royal Civil Fest atAndhra University. They also performedat Symbiosis and earned greatappreciation. The Dance club performedtwo flash mobs which were great hits. Thefirst flash mob that performed at CMRCentral Shopping Mall, two years ago, wasconsidered to be one of the best Flashmob in Asia. The second one was performedfor a cause, GO GLOBAL VIZAG,created a sensation that spreadthroughout India, thus spreadingthe name of Kalakrithi. The Danceclub also performed in the IEA(Indian Economic Association)last year, which hadapproximately 1,500 delegates.Apart from dance, theachievements that the Dramaticsclub of Kalakrithi are alsosomething to be noted. It won aprize for a mime performance atIIT-Kharagpur and there, it wasappreciated by Purandareshwari.

VROOM VROOM.Life: It goes on….

When I was told to write somethingabout ‘Life in general’, I came home, paused for a moment, and thought‘What’s life in general’?And I came across the most valid, coherent answer. It may sound veryobvious and you might go all ‘Ah, Iknew this one!’But, “It goes on”.That, my friends, is the most generalthing about life. From the time you’ve suited up untilthe final lap, you’re racing on one ofthe toughest racecourses you canever find. With pit stops every nowand then,

->You refuel. (get your morale backup)

->Get your tyres changed. (fetchnew change in life)

->Acquire mechanical adjustments.(repair your reflexes)

->And the most momentous reasonfor a pit stop in a peculiar genus, adriver change. (Place the wheel inthe hands of a sound afflatus toameliorate life so you can conquerthe course)

For life to move on swimmingly, you have to sleep and dreamabout it! Cause it’s not likely thatit could befall. Now you all know what life ingeneral is. But what are thecontributing factors for thisphenomenon? They aremanifold! The style in which yourlife is going on depends on everypetty affair. The environment, the people, the places and theattitude.Let’s take the race for example, different drivers, differentteams, different kinds of racetracks and the goal of everysingle driver is the same, tovanquish the second. Apply thesame logic to life: You’re set torace in life with the appropriateguidance of the pit crew. Therewill be hurdles, there will beaccidents. But that doesn’t markthe end of your journey. Somehurdles are a part of the race andbeing the driver that you are, youhave to implement ways totackle them. Whereas, accidentshappen due to things likenegligence, over confidence andlack of ability to foresee thehappening of a mishap.

It’s not always your fault that youend up in an accident, right? When you ask your parents whatworries them when you take thecar/bike out for a spin they’ll say:‘It’s not your driving that I do nottrust, but it’s the other rascals onthe road I’m worried about.'Right now, we all are in anidentical phase. Academics, newexperiences, exposure todifferent cultures, crudecuriosity, relationships, parentalpressure and the constant battlewith one’s self to make the rightdecisions. The quality of life isthat it has something or the otherto offer against all the decisionsyou make. Good, or bad! This isthe age to party, to freak out, notto worry and to live life to thefullest. Not at the cost of puttingyour life in jeopardy. When yousit down to make a decision, examine the pros and cons of allthe options you have. And thesimple logic behind choosing theright option is by choosing thetoughest option.

Even if it means a tad bit lesserpartying!

At the same time, it’s not a wrongthing to decide the other way round. When you make a mistake in life, you have to grow up to a positionnever to repeat it again. Learn fromall the bad things that you’ve done.Remember one thing, if youscrutinize the experience levels of asuccessful person who hasn’tcommitted a mistake EVER and afailure who is trying harder andharder everytime he ends up infiasco, the bar is very high in the caseof a failure.

It’s because he has seen what thesuccessful person hasn’t. He hastasted bitterness everytime hetried. He put his brain to work anddeveloped new ways of winning. Hehas faced the accusations. He brokedown. He gave up. He plunged back, and kept on trying. When a personwith experience in so many domainscorrects his mistakes, doesn’t repeatthem and has faith in himself, he isbound to be a winner anytime soon.

Now tell me, who is moreexperienced?

Life is beautiful. Go on with it.Enjoy the long drives, the muchneeded sips of coffee, the littlescoops of ice cream, those longwalks which do not seem tiring atall when you make sure you do notwalk alone, the all nighters rightbefore your semesters, those dayswhen you go back home after along time, the love you’rebestowed with, the happinessaround you… wait wait, the listdoesn’t end here! That is thebeauty of it. Not just the goodtimes, learn to breeze through thehumdrum affairs of your journey. And when you think you need animpulse or a stimulus ormotivation as you call it, do ityourself. Because there is noother person who knows yourselfbetter than you. Advice is alwayswelcome, but in the end thedecision lies in your hands.

Off the record, you must bethinking ‘How does she know howlife works?’ Well, let’s just say I’vewritten all of this out of my ownexperiences!

I couldn’t find a better way than toend this with one of my favouritedialogues from ‘Rocky’ (Balboa?Italian Stallion? Ring a bell?)

“You, me, or nobody is gonna hit ashard as life. But it ain’t about howhard you hit. It’s about how hardyou can get hit and keep movingforward; how much you can takeand keep moving forward. That’show winning is done! Now, if youknow what you’re worth, then goout and get what you’re worth. Butyou gotta be willing to take thehits, and not pointing fingerssaying you ain’t where you wannabe because of him, or her, oranybody. Cowards do that, andthat ain’t you. You’re better thanthat!”

During a time when chaos anddespair is spreading throughout theworld, it's quite common to see anArab country locked in a civil war.Currently, we find a war waging inSyria. It is a war where casualcivilians themselves are taking uparms for civil rights; fighting, so thatthey may be treated as humans.

It all started in 1964, when the Ba'athSyrian Regional Branch governmentcame into power after performing asuccessful coup d'état. Later, Hafezal-Assad, the defense ministerorchestrated another successfulcoup d'état and overthrew the rulingparty members in 1970. Thoughelections are conducted, for thenamesake that Syria has ademocraticgovernment, theal-Assad family has been ruling thecountry ever since.

After the death of Hafez al-Assad,Bashar al-Assad took over the reignsaccompanied by his wife. They putup proposals to turn the country intoa more democratic state. This iswhen “Damascus Spring” tookplace. Political activists would meetup at their own houses to discussvarious social and political issues.

In August 2001, Damascus Springended with an arrest of all activistsinvolved.

The actual conflict between theSyrian government and its peoplebegan in March 2011, which wasmarked with a large demonstrationthat grew nation wide by thefollowing month. Thesedemonstrations were part of a largerseries of public outrages presentlyreferred to as the Arab Spring. Finally, in April 2011, the Syrian armywas called upon to subdue the massdemonstrators. The army, withoutwarning, opened fire causingwidespread shock. After months ofmilitary tyranny, the non-violentdemonstrators turned into armedrebels, hungry for justice andvendetta.

The rebels consisted of untrainedcivilians who picked up arms todefend their families and beliefs. Onthe other hand was the strong-armed Syrian army. The famousradical Islamist group Hezbollahlater entered the war in support ofthe Syrian government. Syriangovernment obtained furthersupport from Russia and Iran.

Syria has been bootedfrom the Arab League, which is anassociation somewhat like theEuropean Union with theexception that it is made up ofmiddle-eastern countries.

By June 2013, the causalities ofthe civilian war had risen wellpast 100,000. There are up to28,000 people who are eithermissing or kidnapped. Accordingto the reports made by the UN,there are 4 million people whoare displaced within the countryand 2 million people who havefled the country.

What humanity fails to understandis this war has the potential to sparkof World War III, just as the holocaustwas the spark of World War II.The crimes committed by the Syriangovernment are very deep andgrave. Yet, the UN Super powers sit atbay watching as millions of lives arebeing destroyed. After World War II,the UN Superpowers took an oath toprevent any mass killings fromtaking place, yet they lay down andobserve. To them, the war has nomeans of profit, apart from therevenue they earn frommanufacturing weapons. So, willthis war have an adverse effect onthe long run or will this war besnubbed right at it's root level? Thisis yet to be seen.

Here's What Wi-Fi Might Look Like If WeCould See It

Wi-Fi is a series of invisible waves, streaming

along through our houses and offices and

planes. What would those waves look like if we

could see them? Like these crazy exploding-

rainbow images!Well, okay, we don't have any way of actually

seeing Wi-Fi, so there's not really a way of

knowing what it would look like without

speculation. But these images from Nickolay

Lamm, done with help from astrophysicist M.

Browning Vogel, are certainly beautiful, and

pretty instructive, too. In the top image, you can

see Wi-Fi waves emanating along, colored with

a rainbow gradient. But Wi-Fi doesn't just travel

in a straight line, so Lamm also included the

image below, showing waves emanating

spherically, in pulses, from a source.

Digital Rainbow

"Wifi fields are usually spherical (like theone here) or ellipsoidal and extend about20-30 meters, assuming a typical off theshelf wifi box," Lamm writes at My Deals, where the images first appeared.

Brave New WorldsThe search for life on distant planets is in full swing—and we areonly beginning to understand the implications.By Dimitar Sasselov

Today, we stand on the thresholdof a new discovery—a planet thathumans might one day inhabit, perhaps one that some otherbeings already call home. A newrace to find Earth’s twin orb isunder way, led by NASA, whoseKepler space observatory wentinto orbit in 2009. Kepler isdesigned to discover largeplanets in or near the habitablezone of stars where water mightexist; the mission’s goal is todetermine how many of the starsin our galaxy have such planets.tential question of the other:

From a purely technical standpoint, there is no overwhelming benefit indiscovering a true Earthcounterpart, because the propertiesof worlds similar to ours can befound in all kinds of bigger, easier-to-find planets. But, scientists andcasual observers agree that weneed—to build future telescopes tostudy such planets for signatures oflife. However, from a philosophicalstandpoint, the Kepler quest sparksquite a bit of soul-searching. Ourwork is in some ways the 21st-century update of theexisexistential question of theother:

Who am I and how do I relate toothers? If life exists elsewhere in theuniverse, how does that jibe with theage-old human need for meaning andbelonging? Discovering lifeelsewhere has the potential to givehumans a collective identity crisis. The perception of who we are hasbeen a part of our history for a longtime. Mostly the question came upwhen we had “first encounters” withother tribes or races. Homo sapiensencountered Homoneanderthalensis somewhere intoday’s Europe. Mayans encounteredSpanish conquistadors in CentralAmerica. And there are numerousother examples. But the time of firstencounters on our planet is over. Forgood or bad, we all now know aboutone another. The latest generationsof Homo sapiens have a globalawareness and a sense ofconnectedness that humans havenever had before. Indeed, the end ofthe 20th century was a realwatershed in this regard. That’s whenour planet suddenly became small. The search for new worlds orbitingdistant stars affords us a freshopportunity to contemplate a firstencounter. Before we get too excited, however, we have some majorhurdles to overcome. One bigimpediment to the search for life onother planets is the lack of afundamental definition orunderstanding of the origins of lifeon Earth—or rather, how life emergesfrom chemistry

We do know that the molecular unityof Earth life may give us a clue. Forexample, we know that thechemistry of life on Earth is ratherrestrictive in its molecularpermutations, and unnecessarily so,it seems, given the enormous choiceof good options provided bychemistry for building bodies andfunction. The question is whethernature is the reason for thepermutations of life we know. Ourbiochemistry could be universal, similar to gravity, where the samebasic rules apply anywhere.Ourbiochemistry could be one of manyoptions—one that just happened tofit Earth’s environmentalconditions. If the latter, how do weplan to search and what types of lifecould we expect to find first? The question of whether alternativebiochemistries exist now seemsapproachable in the lab and, although this does not directlyanswer the big questions of life’sdefinition and origins, it representsa giant leap in the search for alienlife. With physics and chemistrybeing the same throughout theuniverse, we can work to definesignatures that are uniqueindicators of a living planet. Half thebattle is knowing how to search. IfEarth and its history of life are anyindication, we should be looking fora vibrant microbial biosphere that iscapable of affecting the chemistry ofthe atmosphere and oceans.

Astronomers like me, and those Iwork with at the Origins of LifeInitiative at Harvard, are now usingpowerful telescopes to discoverentirely new classes of planetsorbiting other stars. Thesetelescopes (and others currentlyunder construction) allow us todetect the signatures ofatmospheric gases from distantplanets by analyzing their light indifferent colors. Among them, weare looking for one that couldteach us about alternative geo-chemistries—and ultimately leadus to the discovery ofbiochemistry and life. We will onlysucceed if we manage to combinewhat we see remotely with ourwork in the lab.

When that day comes, we’ll learn a lot,but whatever we end up learning, it isbound to transform our world in at leasttwo ways. First, the technology thatcomes out of our work in the lab isgoing to be powerful. Much as the 20thcentury brought us synthesis inchemistry, the 21st century is bringinga synthesis in biology, withimplications for new materials, therapies, industries, and applications.Second, these discoveries willrepresent nothing less than arevolution in our understanding of lifeand its place in the cosmos. We mayagain ask deeper questions about whowe are and how we belong. Issues oftheology and philosophy are bound tocrop up. Whether the extraterrestriallife we discover is rare or ubiquitousremains to be seen, but either way theimplications will be earthshaking.

So, where do you see this projectheading Molika?”First of all a fact that everyoneshould know that grey waterharvesting does exist in world, butit doesn’t in India on largescale.

When most of countries have thissystem, then why should India take abackseat? The whole concept is tosave water in all possible ways."Themain motto is to conserve water in avery efficient and eonomic way”says Molika.

Tom Hardy as Bane is utterlyterrifying. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman is very elegant.Everyone is so great, scenes incorporating all of the actorsare done so well. The Dark Knight Rises is emotionallyriveting and amazing to watch.

Tom Hardy as Bane is utterlyterrifying. Anne Hathaway as Catwoman is very elegant.Everyone is so great, scenes incorporating all of the actorsare done so well. The Dark Knight Rises is emotionallyriveting and amazing to watch.

Get Smart(2008) An enthralling comedy starring Steve Corell and AnneHatheway. It is completely engrossing till the end as youwait for the next hymalian blunder that Steve's characterwill pull off next. The comedy duo steal the stage as thefaults in their co-operation tend to lead to an hilariousoutput.

The largest active community onSTEAM Ever. It's all about 'TheRadiant' and 'The Dire'; 102 heroes, gold, enemies, defending yourancients and much more. Yes, we aretalking about The DOTA 2, the mosthappening game of the decade. With a rating over 9.0/10.0 on allthe websites that you can imagine.Sounds great, doesn't it?Defense Of The Ancients 2 a.k.aDOTA 2 was released on July 9 2013for Microsoft windows and on July18 2013 for OSX and LINUX.

The basic setup of DOTA 2 places twostrongholds containing criticalstructures called "Ancients" atopposing ends of a geographicallybalanced map. These bases areconnected by three main paths(referred to as lanes), which areguarded by defensive towers andgroups of units commonly referred toas "creeps" which traverse their lanes, attacking enemy units and structuresupon sight. Players are split into twoteams, each consisting of up to fiveplayers, to compete as the primarydefenders for each Ancient.

To ensure the transition of DOTAplayers to DOTA 2, Valve invited andsponsored sixteen of the mostaccomplished teams to competeand showcase the game'scapabilities with its public debut atThe International, a globalchampionship hosted at Gamescom2011 in Cologne, Germany, with agrand prize of one million dollars. The International became an annualchampionship tournament, with thevenue changing to Seattle,Washington,United States.Once you're in, Dota 2 is veryentertaining, and subverts so muchof the perceived wisdom of gamedesign. No commercial studio couldhave made a game this demanding, with matches this long, that fusedgenres like this and included suchcounter-intuitive tactics as killingyour own soldiers to prevent theopposing team from gaining points.I give the game a 9.2/10.0.Don't just read about it, but go getyour copy of DOTA 2 now (Cause it'samazing, ain't it?)

The overall objective of eachmatch is to battle through theopposing force's defenses, anddestroy the opponents' Ancient. The currency of the game is gold, which is granted steadily at a slowrate. Gold can be accumulated at amuch higher rate by killing enemyunits, destroying enemy towers, orkilling heroes. Killing creepsgrants gold solely to the playerwho killed it; killing heroes grantsgold to the killer and any nearbyallies; and destroying towers givesgold to all players on theteam.Featured across the map areunits referred to as "neutrals",which are not aligned to a faction, primarily located in the forests.Located on the southeast side ofthe river is a boss called "Roshan"who typically requires multipleteam members in order to bekilled. Following his death, Roshanwill drop a powerful item whichallows for a hero to instantlyrespawn at the location of theirdeath if they are killed.

Pages Of my DiaryTaken from Molika Sinha's Diary

Today, it was my first day of internship at PepsiCo. Oh! I hate waking up at8:00 in the morning and that too in vacations!!!To my misfortune, I couldn’t wake up on time even though I went to bed earlyyesterday. I wonder how come my mother’s loud and shrill voice couldn’treach me in my dream world. (I guess the only time she hates me is whilewaking me up.)I woke up an hour late! HOLY HELL! The PepsiCo Bottling Unit was 45 minutesaway from my house and my reporting time was 10:00. I wonder at whatspeed I expect myself to get ready with my mom continuously shouting at myears for being late. Argh..!!!And to add to my misery, I had to drive all the way on my own on my so-called“BULLET”! (Don’t mistake it to be an original bullet. It’s Mahindra Kine, ascooty!).In this scorching heat, I hated driving from the innermost core of myheart. The drive seemed to be never ending. I regret why I fought with mymom and left the option of being dropped by the driver.I tried my best to make up, but still reached half-an hour late. And over it, theguard at the gate gave me the look – Gak! How can we let this girl enter? (Ithink my manifestation of a dacoit made him think so. You see the look whichthe girls usually carry over during summers.)I wanted to rush in. So many questions were coming up in my mind – Whatimpression would the administrative officers get of me? What excuse would Igive them? Will they believe that? What if they send me back home? But again, the guard’s drama was still to go. It seemed to me that I was playingTakeshi’s Castle – coming over all the hurdles! I liked one thing about thebeverage company today the most, they make you fill so many forms (punsurely intended)! Forms inquiring the diseases I am suffering with formsstating the extra materials I took in, and the weirdestone – deathresponsibility form. It took me another 15 mins to complete filling them up. Ialmost ran to the Administrative office to meet Miss Mukti Rani. While on my way, I heard noises of glass bottles clanking.

I look up and saw that crates of glass bottles have formed a train withinnumerable bogies running at a moderate speed on tracks designedespecially for them.It was really amazing! There were huge tanks almost everywhere withdifferent markings on them. Rolls of tin sheets were lying here andthere, huge cylinders of CO2, and the most important thing – uncountablebottles of slice, pepsi, mountain dew, aquafina!I will surely try flicking some bottles in the next fifteen days, or if possible awhole crate!Miss Mukti ordered her assistant to take me to the microbiology lab. Onething was really funny about all the people present there – they werewearing SHOWER CAPS! Yes! It was a shower cap. I really didn’t want to askthem if they had any particular name for it. As of for me, it was a shower cap. From workers to officers, from sweepers to managers, all of them werewearing it just for a formality as half of their hair was out of the cap. It reallydidn’t matter to them if the consumers get a hair strand in their drink.I had to cross 3 doors to reach the lab inside the plant. After entering the firstdoor, there was a warning in red to get our hands sanitized. At the 3rd door, there was a warning for wearing hand gloves, caps, lab coats & toe-covers.But to my amazement the guard didn’t ask me to do any of the tasksmentioned nor did he do it.I entered the lab. I saw men and women working, performing differentexperiments on the beverages. The lab had all possible apparatus required. But one thing to which my attention was drawn to was that even these peoplewere not wearing lab coats and toe-covers. I wonder if they had sanitizedtheir hands or not. Still, they didn’t forget one thing – SHOWER CAPS! :DI don’t know why I was scared.Scared of being questioned and judged!!! This is my first exposure in anindustry, so this nervousness was quiet obvious! I introduced myself in a verylow pitch. Several questions were asked – what my name was? Where was Ifrom? What I aspired to become? Why I chose biotechnology as my career? Ifelt like they were never ending!I was made to sit on a chair for about an hour or so, and wait for the lab-incharge, Mr.Sandeep, to come and assign me work. The best and the most funniest part of the day – While I was waiting, thepeople working there offered me a lemon yellow coloured drink in a beaker. They were calling it Mountain dew.

Page 44: Vishnu

(Ok! Don’t get shocked after reading the next few lines). I never knew thatthe colour of Mountain dew was lemon yellow. I always assumed it to betransparent in colour.First of all, I was confused as to what they have offered me. I was cynical ifthey had mixed any chemical to it and targeted me as a model organism.Secondly, I didn’t know if I should pour the drink in my mouth or drink it inthe usual manner. Finally, I decided to drink in the normal way. I didn’t wantto face the thwarting situation in which instead of pouring the drink in mymouth, I pour it on my dress. But still, the confusion persisted in my mind. Iwanted to be sure that I was drinking a healthy drink, and not a chemical. Iask one of the ladies present there “Madam, why is this drink yellow incolour?”The lady puckered brow, gave me the “Mr.Bean “look and said – “Obviouslybecause the PepsiCo has set that standard colour for it.”“But mountain dew.... is...tr-an-sp-ar-ent.... “. I got rebuked and that too onthe first day itself. I felt embarrassed. Silently, without asking any morequestions, I gulped the whole drink in just one go.(Have you seen the Melody chocolate advertisement? The boy asks the girl– “Melody itni chocolaty kyunhai?”.And the girl goes mad! Yes! I was in thesame situation. It was just that, I was the boy of the add and the lady was thegirl. )The wait ended up late in the afternoon. The lab-incharge entered. Iwished him and the series of questions started again! As, there was only an hour left for my dismissal, he ordered his assistant totake me for a plant visit.I felt like I was in cloud nine. I was about to witness beverage making inreality. All these years, I had watched it on National Geography – “FoodFactory”.The assistant gave me a cap to wear. She took me in a huge room which hadsix extremely gigantic steel barrels containing syrup, sugar, treated waterand mixture of all the three. This is usually done at a particular temperatureand pressure. She has promised to tell me that in the coming days (I guessshe didn’t know herself!).The syrup is then transferred to different intermediate tanks for storage. Then, she took me to another unit where they make PET bottles and washthe glass bottles.

I was happy to see that these people believe in reusing the bottles and notthrowing it away like the Americans do! The cleanser was making the mostnoise. I wondered how the workers worked in that situation. Don’t they getheadaches? All kinds of bottles – newly made or reused ones, are once again washedbefore taking in for filling. One thing I noticed, they were washing all thebottles in an upside-down position. I wonder why? I will surely find this out.Subsequently, the filling of syrup, capping, marking of batch nos, sealing, sticking of plastic tags were done. The bottles were then ready to be sold.In America (for what I have seen in food factory), machines are used frominitial stage to the packaging stage. No man power is used. But in thisindustry, just the beverage making and filling up was done with machines, but the packaging was done manually. I am happy to see this for it must havedecreased the illiteracy rate in India. One interesting fact which she told me while explaining the process thatthey make beverage only for 4 months in a year i.e. from March to June. Inthe rest of the year, they sit comfortably selling the bottles and working foraudits (for those who doesn’t know what an audit is – it’s a technical termused in the industries for any award competition). Now, this rose many questions in my head which I hope to get clarifiedtomorrow. The lab-incharge has told me that he will teach me microbiology teststomorrow. For the first day ended well with mixed feelings. Just the first dayexperience was worth waking up 8 in the morning.I look forward to play with the bottles.I wish I could flinch one bottle tomorrow!

A Day with Team 3 Productions at Subway,GITAM University As given by : Anjali Dasari

1) Team 3 productions have become a hub for spectacular short films. How did the team come into being? (Revanth says)LPR is my schoolmate. One day, he approached me with ascript named VALUE and he was so desperate to make that film. Themovie came to post production stage after approaching manytechnicians. Due to some reasons, the filming stopped abruptly. (LPRsays) That was when Bharadwaj joined us and our work moved at afaster pace. He was always there to give us the push we needed. Then,we started a production house of our own. The name Team 3 makessense as we felt it caught the essence of its three founders. You cannever imagine a building without a basement. Similarly, Bharadwaj isthe basement for everything in Team 3. (Bharadwaj says) It's a privilegeto be a part of this Team. I can't ask for a better one. I liked all its scriptsvery much and I really love the way Revanth acts. The production was1st started by lakshmi Prasad and then later on Bharadwaj came in theteam thats how the team3 is formed. 2) The team has experimented with different genres, which accordingto you was the most challenging as of yet and if so why? (Revanth says)Basically, every genre has its own merits and de-merits.We never oriented ourselves to one specific genre. But our first moviewas very challenging to me (LPR says).Event videos are the mostchallenging. You can't just relax while doing them. You gotta give it yourbest shot till very end.

Anjali Dasari

3) Can you share with us an insight about your future projects? Yeah, our upcoming film is LOVE LETTER and we're planning to releaseit after two weeks. We’re also making a video for the NGO -Make aDifference (MAD), where we cover the main essence of theorganization. 4) Team 3 productions have become an inspiration for most Filmaspirants here at Vishakhapatnam. Who was your inspiration? Well, we had been watching several videos and we had been observingthe work of several famous directors. We love the films of ChristopherNolan and we find him inspiring in every way. The most inspiringperson is definitely Trivikram Srinivas (LPR says). When peoplecompare me with Trivikram sir,I would like to quote "If Trivikram is alibrary, I would atleast want to be a book in that library”. I feelprivileged to be compared with such a legend (Revanth says).I wouldfeel the same when I am being compared with Actor Nani.

5) Of all the films you have worked in, has any script written based on atrue-life incident?(Bharadwaj says)There is one incident which I want LPR to describebecause it seems effective only if he tells it.It was based on my friendwho loved a girl so deeply about which I wouldn't like to disclose toomuch for now (LPR says laughing out loud). The film is named MANO andthe shooting is under process. It will be out very soon. Finger’s crossed. 6) Where does Team 3 production see itself in five years? Do you want tobecome an ad-company that develops concepts for clients or do youintend on venturing in mainstream cinema? LPR wants to get into mainstream cinema after graduation. Whereas, myself and Bharadwaj will turn up if any huge prospects comes along, even after we get settled in our life. 7) The team has set a bar to most vizagites – a bar of excellence. Have youfaced any hurdles along the way to become what you are today? Hurdles are common in any field and we faced tons of hurdles in thisprocess. We had a tough time facing our parents when they came to knowabout company (says Bharadwaj curtly). The first hurdle we faced waswhen we couldn't get a decent DSLR camera to make films.

8) What message would you like to give to the current aspiringdirectors of GITAM? Once you enter this field in college, professional careers must not bealtered or spoiled. Love the work you do, be dedicated towards it, Workhard. There are people who worked with us, learned work from us andput up their own Production houses.
