The Honorable Gerald Bruce Lee will receive VTLA’s Distinguished Service Award. Judge Lee needs no introduction to VTLA members. He practiced with Cohen Dunn & Sinclair in Alexandria and then served as a Fairfax Circuit Court judge prior to his appointment to the U.S. District Court in 1998byPresidentBillClinton.Inadditiontonumeroushighprofilecasesincludinghisrulingsidingwith Native American activists who argued that the Washington Redskins name is disparaging, Judge Lee worked tirelessly to diversify the legal profession. He retired in September 2017.
In his lifetime, Bruce D. Rasmussenexemplifiedwhatisbestabouttriallawyers.Hewasnotafraidtotakeonthedifficultcase,evenwhentheoddswerelow,if hefelthisclientneededavoice.Hismanysuccessesreflectedhisdedicationtodetailandexcellence,aswellashiscommitmenttohisclientsandtheircauses.Brucewasoneof VTLA’sbestteachersandhelpedgrowourCLEprogram,ourlegislativeprogramandinfluencednearlyeveryarea.Heservedaspresidentin1999-2000.Brucewillbe honored posthumously with the VTLA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Steven D. Rosenfield will be presented with the Oliver White Hill Courageous Advocate Award. As a civil rights lawyer, Steve has made a life and career of helping the powerless, from housing and employment discrimination to gender, age handicap and national origin discrimination, to criminal injustices and prisoners’ civil rights. An engineering graduate from University of Miami, he joined the VISTA program of the Peace Corps where his work with the poor changed his life. He then read for the law through legal aid and started out as a court appointed lawyer. This award recognizes a lifetime of courage, leadership and inspiration.
Cooking Class - Friday and Saturday A special for VTLA attendees and guests only – learn, create, and share from a seasonal menu with Williamsburg’s chefs. The program will be held on Friday and Saturday from 1-3 pm in the Taste Studio, located between the Lodge and the Inn. VTLA Golf Please join us for a 9-hole golf scramble on the newly re-opened Gold Course. Improving on his father’s original 1963 design, golf course architect Rees Jones directed the renovation of the Gold Course, which re-opened just last July. The Gold Course now features the latest in modern turf grasses, new grass on the fairways, greens,andsurroundingroughs,andutilizes“BetterBillyBunker”construction to improve the drainage, look, and playability of bunkers. Deposit PolicyAll individual lodging reservations must be accompanied by one night’s deposit for room and tax. Deposits are refundable provided notice of cancellation is received by the hotel by 5:00 pm local hotel time, at least three business days prior to reserved date of arrival. All major credit cards are accepted to secure your reservation.
