The Breif OUR RESEARCH Our magazine as it stands has had a few design chang- es over the last couple of years, however we still think it can be further improved to help our publication reach more of our audience and match the tone of voice of “vintage life for the modern woman.” After do- ing some research, we managed to find a few problems that need addressing. We asked a panel of people to see what they thought of our publication and this was our response. We have identified the following issues that need to be addressed. •Repetitive -The viewers thought our design was too repetitive in its colours, layout and fonts used. •Dull -The repetitiveness of this made the pages dull after a while, and readers lost interest. •Too modern -For a vintage themed magazine, they felt the look we had gone for was too clean and sim- plistic. •Needed more aesthetic feeling -The idea of adding a theme for eras and including colours and patterns of that era were suggested. THE TASK We need a new layout design that takes these prob- lems into account. From our research we can assume that idea of theming pages to specific content or era may be an idea to interpret. We also want to create a brand for ourselves, so when we are on the shelves with other magazines we can be spotted straight away. This will require a new logo for our publication that is clear and bold, and again runs with our vintage feel. The logo we’d prefer to be in black and white, so we can if needed change it for other issues, and be used not only for our front cover, but our website and in mastheads. You will need to consider, colour pal- lets, fonts used, patterns (if any) and how you use our images. The pages still need to me clear and readable, and the viewer must be able to understand what the content on the page is. Our new tag line is ‘Vintage life for the mod- ern woman’ which you must remember and consider when creating your designs. This is now a strong part of our ethos and must be recognisable in your design.

The BreifOUR RESEARCHOur magazine as it stands has had a few design chang-es over the last couple of years, however we still think it can be further improved to help our publication reach more of our audience and match the tone of voice of “vintage life for the modern woman.” After do-ing some research, we managed to find a few problems that need addressing. We asked a panel of people to see what they thought of our publication and this was our response.

We have identified the following issues that need to be addressed.

• Repetitive -The viewers thought our design was too repetitive in its colours, layout and fonts used.

• Dull -The repetitiveness of this made the pages dull after a while, and readers lost interest.

• Too modern -For a vintage themed magazine, they felt the look we had gone for was too clean and sim-plistic.

• Needed more aesthetic feeling -The idea of adding a theme for eras and including colours and patterns of that era were suggested.

THE TASKWe need a new layout design that takes these prob-lems into account. You will need to consider, colour pal-lets, fonts used, patterns (if any) and how you use our images. The pages still need to me clear and readable, and the viewer must be able to understand what the content on the page is.

Our new tag line is ‘Vintage life for the mod-ern woman’ which you must remember and consider when creating your designs. This is now a strong part of our ethos and must be

recognisable in your design.

The New logoFor the logo, I wanted to create something simple, elegant and timeless.

I took inspiration from the 1950s fashion mag-azines, such as Vouge and Elle.

This logo is in the typeface Didot Bold and Regular, which is re-used in the magazine and body text.
