RIVER

River is a large natural watercourse that is flowing to an ocean, a lake, a sea or another river.

River PatternsThere are different types of river channel patterns:

Dendritic drainage pattern is the most common type of drainage system. This system is made of many branches of streams that are joined together into the tributaries of the main river.

These type of drainage develop on rocks that are capable for erosion prevention, with 2 joints forming right angles. Streams eventually develop along the joints because the joints are less resistant to erosion.

This pattern is caused by steep slopes with some relief. The streams are swift and straight, and all flow in the same direction. One of the example is river flowing Southeast from the Aberdare Mountains in Kenya.

The shape of trellis drainage is similar to that of a common garden trellis used to grow vines. Trellis drainage develops in folded topography like in Appalachian Mountain in North America. Tributaries join the main stream at nearly 90 degrees.

There is no coherent pattern to the rivers and lakes. It began as a dendritic pattern but was altered when overrun by glacier. After receding, the glacier left behind material that form wetlands and deposits that dammed the stream to impound a small lake.

MARINE TRANGRESSIONA geographic event when the sea level rises higher than the ground and covers area of the land, resulting in flooding. this may be caused by the land sinking or tectonic events like orogenies and severe climate changes.

MARINE REGRESSIONThis is the reverse of marine

transgression. This process is when the areas of submerged seafloor are exposed above the sea level. A major regression could cause extinction of the marine creatures. This regression event might have been related to the formation of Pangea.
