VINCE STRANG MOTORCYCLES DR650 RIDERS NEWSLETTER Welcome to our first DR650 Riders Newsletter, where we can share a bit of knowledge and talk about one of the best adventure/dual pur- pose bikes ever made. We hope to find the time to put a few words together every couple of months, with a few tips or tech ideas. NEW WINDSCREEN AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE 27 HOURS IN THE SADDLE! VINCE’S LATEST RIDE REPORT Yes, I know that’s not a marathon but only two and a half days! I was happy to have my Sargent seat. Mario and I joined with Shane, Phil, Bruce, Trev, Tom, Sparks and Martyn (I can’t remem- ber a couple more) to try one of Martyn’s new bush routes. Basically we went from Bellingen to Ginger’s Ck on Sunday and back another way on Monday. It was a great ride and definitely an adventure ride, all the blokes were well experienced riders and well prepared, there was good flowing trails to greasy red clay covered with leaf litter to an odd log to cross. I think Tom will be doing a story in an upcoming issue of ADB magazine so I won’t say any more. The 27 hours bit was Mario, Shane and I riding from Inverell and back as well . If the front is stock or has a spring kit in it this fork oil change will suit. Sit the DR on a secure box and remove the wheel (front one dummy!) and the brake caliper bolts. Loosen the fork cap bolt before loosening the clamp bolts to slide the forks out. (Careful the DR doesn’t slip off the box when the front end weight is removed). Now fully undo the fork cap and remove the spring and spacers noting the order of removal. Invert the forks in a secure position to drain the old oil into a suitable container and allow enough time to drain (at least 30 minutes). Now this is the tip! Use 15wt fork oil and pour 590cc into each leg (560 if you have “T” valves). Now carefully reassemble everything, paying attention to correct fitting of the brake caliper bolts and the brake hose routing, pump the brake lever and confirm they work before testing your revitalized forks. MAINTENANCE TIP We have added a new windscreen to our web- site shop, we have se- cured better supply, the screen looks better, it works well (Vince has a bright yellow one on his DR now) and at 30% lower price…How’s that! We also have se- cured stocks of the new Acerbis tank, although not as voluptuous as we hoped it is still a sol- id 20 litre (about 2 L more than the IMS) and looks a little sportier and is $415 including freight. The little story above involved a good DR client and friend of us at VSM and he is a wiz on the computer and Google maps and has spent almost a lifetime mapping awesome trails in his head. Martyn has now started building user friendly DVD guides to some great adventure riding that will make your mouth “water”. The first issue will have three rides in it, set out with “route chart” in- structions and Google map details as well as other great information and a couple of riding sto- ries. The first issue’s rides are located between Newcastle and QLD boarder. Stay tuned for more info on release date of this DVD. SEND US YOUR PHOTOS! It’s been a while since we’ve had new photos to display on our website, and we would love to see where our customers have been riding! Send your photos to us and we will add them to our DR650 Gallery.
