T5, Kinder and 1S had a surprise visit from Clifford, the big red dog. They had a wonderful time giving him hugs.

Successful Book Fair

We had a lot of fun choosing books at the Book Fair.

During Book Fair, Clifford came to our classroom for a special visit.

The ‘Reptile Show’ on Wednesday was most interesting and

informative.

This week we learnt the ‘er’ sound. We painted pictures of herbs, planted herbs in our garden and used mixers to make lots and lots of

bubbles.

9 YEARS CRICKET TORNADOES REPORT

Game two of the season and yet another big win for the team! Tim Pickard was our Captain this week, sporting his bruise from playing cricket during the week. We bowled first and Tim P took a wicket with his second and third ball. The wickets kept falling as our determined team showed all the skills they have been learning over the past seasons. We also had the help of Ben Cant this week and he proved to be a great addition to the team. Our batting was dominant and there was some good calling for runs and some power hitting as well. It is hard to single out individual performances as the boys are really playing as a team, with great contributions from all players. This week Tim Pickard received our player of the week for his determined effort, but well done to all the boys.

Mr Pickard

HARDBALL CRICKET

The ASC Hardball team travelled to Oberon again last Saturday and were greeted with another beautiful day. This week our boys batted first and Matthew Jackman(13) and Hugh Elbourne (6) continued where they left off from the week before with some excellent defence, combined with some fantastic running between the wickets. After a substantial partnership, Hugh was eventually dismissed and Alexander Miller took to the crease. Alexander looked very comfortable at the wicket and he was unluckily run out by an excellent piece of fielding. Matthew Jackman was dismissed soon afterwards and this left Will Armstrong and Lachlan McAloney to continue the All Saints’ push for more runs. Both boys ran well between the wickets before Will was bowled by a very good ball. Lachlan was joined by Henry Morgan and this pair combined to produce a valuable partnership in the closing stages of the innings. At the conclusion of the innings ASC had scored 112 – quite a reasonable score on the thick, green outfield. Oberon were 5 wickets out for 60 runs at the end of the first day’s play and their run chase started disastrously with Ben Griffin claiming a wicket in his first over of the day. The wicket was claimed with a sharp slips catch from Hugh Elbourne who held onto a fast moving outside edge. Lachlan Wilkinson and David Cant both bowled very accurately and another wicket fell early in the innings to Ben Griffin. At this point Oberon consolidated admirably and their best two batsmen patiently added to their total. As the overs continued runs kept being added and the match appeared destined for a close finish. Tom Card kept the batsmen on their toes with some excellent wicket keeping and Baden Sinclair bowled some probing out swinging deliveries. Alexander Miller was unlucky not to claim a wicket as two catches were dropped off his tight bowling. The match came to a climax at the end of the day with Oberon needing 10 runs to win the match at the start of the final over. Matthew Jackman kept a cool head and nearly claimed the wicket of the Oberon batsman twice in two balls! The Oberon batsmen continued to move the ball around the field and managed to score 7 of the necessary runs. This gave ASC a well deserved victory (albeit a close one) and the boys celebrated their first win of the season in style. I would like to congratulate the players on an excellent team effort. The victory was achieved with everyone contributing which demonstrates the essence of playing team sport at ASC. I would also like to thank Mr Sinclair for his accurate scoring, as well as Mr and Mrs Card who provided a delightful BBQ for both teams to enjoy at the end of the match.

in2CRICKETOur second session of in2CRICKET was held in glorious conditions. Another large crowd of children and parents gathered and participated in relays and the focussed development of batting, bowling and catching skills. Our general knowledge quiz at the start stumped most, but Lachlan Roach proved his broader knowledge when he quickly named one women’s

Australian cricketer. This week we look forward to improving our cricketing skills further. Some of our older more experienced players will participate in a game of cricket against each other. Congratulations to those Encouragement Award winners this week, Lachlan Roach, Natalia Burgess, Max Bylsma, Jack Van Yzendoorn, Jack Tribolet, Jessica Green, James Edwards, Millicent Cupples, Jorja Dickie James Patterson and Aria McLean. If you still need to complete the Working With Children Check we will have more copies on Saturday or collect one from Mrs Keogh in the Junior School Office. Thanks again for your support, please contact Mr Cant if you have any queries or concerns about the program. Mrs Cant
