INTRODUCTION:

Nowadays disasters has become more and are occurring often.

They should be managed properly to save the lives of affected people. Let us see the management of disasters in village areas.

WHAT IS DISASTER MANAGEMENT?

Disaster Management can be defined as the organization and management of resources and responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies, in particular preparedness, response and recovery in order to lessen the impact of disasters.

WHAT IS VDMC?

(1) Village Disaster Management Committee is a committee in which some of the cautious people of a village make some important measures for the management of disasters coming their village.

(2) Village Disaster Management Plan is defined as the planning process of the VDMC.

WHO DOES WHAT IN A DISASTER?

• The mayor is responsible at the administrative level for the smooth running of the response effort.

• The fire service is the linchpin in disaster response. The fire chief is charged with the operational management of the response effort.

• Regional accident and disaster medical teams do immediate actions after disaster.

• The police will ensure that the fire and ambulance services can do their job.

• The Municipal services play an important role in disaster response, especially when it comes to the after-effects. If whole streets or neighbourhoods have to be evacuated, for instance, the municipality is responsible for the residents’ immediate welfare.

PLANNING PROCESS OF VDMP:

•The VDMC has a variety of teams for playing different roles before , after and during a disaster.

•Based on the skills required,the villagers decide on the volunteers to be a part of in each of the teams.

•Let us see some of the teams of VDMC.

TEAMS OF VDMC:

•Early warning and communication team

•Evacuation and Temporary Shelter Management team

•Search and Rescue team

•Health and First aid team

•Relief coordination team

•Water and Sanitation team

HOW A MEMBER OF VDMC SHOULD BE?

•Member of VDMC should be the first responder for people’s needs.

•He/She should be attentive always.

•He/She should be a big source of information about disasters and their managements.

•He/She should be well-trained.

•He/She should awarness amongst the people of their village.

WHAT ARE THE ROLES OF VDMC?

•The committee should

ponder

and do everything before , during and after any disaster.

•It creates awareness to the people before disaster.

•It guides the preparation of management of the disaster properly.

•It tries to rescue people during disaster.

•It reduces the impact of the disaster.

•It is responsible for the treatment of affected people after disaster.

WORKING OF VDMC:

CONCLUSION:

In India , the disaster management systems are not enough according to my opinion. As disasters have increased , the management teams should also increase to rescue the people. We should become more aware of disasters and try to prevent them as much as possible.
