ADMIN TEAM NOTESSHIVON

Well I must say, those concerts last weekend were utterly thrilling  for me as a director.  It’s an amazing thing we do, coming together faithfully each week for 4 months or so, often several times in the week, learn all these songs, learn the words by heart, add a new language to two to your repertoire, flow with the changes as they arise, put individual egos aside and become this One Choir, one mind, all starting and stopping on a dime, all feeling the rise and fall of the volume and tempo, the emotion, singing of our love for our friends, our world, our children, our hopes and dreams.  I am deeply impressed by, and grateful to each of you for the dedication and focus you bring to our choir. Together, we create a thing of beauty and magic.

~ Shivon

DENIS (see correction)

Whew - what a concert! You all were great! Thanks you all so very much for your attention and dedication - the audience was enthralled, as was I!

On another note, I highly recommend going to see TwelveTones in concert this Saturday Friday evening. Seven young people singing contemporary songs, unaccompanied - they're great! Go see them! Sat. Feb.6 Sat. Feb.5 at St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Douglas at Courtney, 7:30. $20.

I also strongly recommend, for anyone interested in poetry, the Roger Housden (of the "Ten Poems" series of books) weekend workshop at Royal Roads coming up March 11 - 13. Full Info   Many of the poems I speak at choir evenings can be found in his books - so he's got good taste!

Another great season of singing with you all, capped off by two amazing concerts with Coastline.

Although a few final details are not confirmed we will have raised well over $23,000 for the power of hope from our two concerts. WELL DONE EVERYONE!

I'm looking forward to the Spring Season and what Shivon and Denis will come up with for our 20th Anniversary Concerts.

See you all in a couple of weeks.

~ Gloria

Great and joyful concerts and after party. I think we should all do it again soon. Sing in the Spring anyone?

Another round, another songAnother chance to sing alongAnother season, another reason For singing….Whoopee!

Did any you, or audience guests of any of you, get any good photos at either concert or the after party that you are willing to share? If so please send them to me for posting on our site's Choir Photos page

GHC Tuesday Tenor Howard Dieno had his video camera set up for both concerts so we should be ok for concert video coverage but if anyone has some good cell phone videos from our after party that they are willing to share please send them to me for possible Choir Videos page posting.

A Book RecommendationTHE MAGIC STRINGS OF FRANKIE PESTO

I'm in agreement with the following paragraph from the cover of the book…

"With it's Forrest Gump-like journey through the music world, The Magic Strings of Frankie Pesto is a classic in the making. A lifelong musician himself, Mitch Albom delivers an unforgettable story. 'Everyone joins a band in this life,' he observes, be it through music, family, friends or lovers and those connections change the world."

I believe we now need to step back from the overwhelming nature of our "digital age.  One can already see a tendency among many people to "surf" across the ocean of information that is the internet.  This behaviour seems to replace a desire for a deeper or more rounded understanding of anything.  Mastery seems unfeasible in a world awash with information.  However, higher level thinking is needed now more than ever.  We need to develop more refined skills of awareness and judgement to help us filter, select and identify opportunities.   Collaboration will increasingly be the name of the game as people around the world work, share ideas, write books, and even construct mathematical proofs together.
