Spring Concert Every year the Tanbridge Music Department devises an abundance of performances, which never fail to impress. This year’s Spring Concert on the 18 th and 19 th March was no different, with students taking an active role to make the overall production unique. However this spring, the department attempted something never done before… In this concert the Junior and Senior Choirs joined together to produce a mini production of the musical Jekyll and Hyde. Students from Year 11 put their acting skills to the test between songs and produced an outstanding performance. Mrs Thomas, conductor for choirs, said “It was definitely more interesting to have a story for the audience to follow and I believe we will attempt something like this in summer.” Mrs James, head of Music, also gave her opinion on the concert “Doing something like Jekyll and Hyde, keeps the momentum fresh and semi-staging adds interest. In the future I think we will do something similar to this again, especially in summer where there will be work on the school which may affect our usage of the hall. Concerts like this are more compact and shorter but still just as exciting!” The concert also consisted of: Concert Band, Brass Ensemble, Senior Strings, Junior Orchestra, Senior Orchestra, the joint Choirs and Chamber Choir. Year 9 Music Ambassador, Billy, expressed his thoughts “I did enjoy doing Jekyll and Hyde but I do prefer doing separate songs as we have done in the past.” For Year 7 students this was their second concert of the school year; Abbie, one of the many year 7’s participating, said “I really enjoyed the concert, and have never done a musical before so the experience was great. I am really looking forward to the summer concert.” Orchestras, ensembles and bands performed selections from the Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Lord of the Dance, Elton John, Tequila, Man in the Mirror and Hallelujah Drive. All of which were undoubtedly formidable. Overall it was a really enjoyable experience and we are sure that the summer concert will be just as good.
