Questions to coordinate Storytown to the PSSA – GRADE 3CONTACT ME IF YOU HAVE ANY CORRECTIONS OR ADDITIONS. – DIANE JANOSKI, STATE ST.

MAKE THE STUDENTS READ THE QUESTIONS SO THAT THEY BECOME FAMILIAR WITH THE TERMS.

USE THE OPEN ENDED QUESTIONS AFTER EACH STORY. LET THE STUDENTS WRITE THEIR ANSWERS .

Just a suggestion: You can assign each student a different question that he can write for the lesson he’s reading. The student can ask the question to the class and let them answer.

OPEN ENDEDHave the students write o-1-2-3-c. ( o = opening sentence and c = closing statement) Have the students underline words in the open ended question to use in their opening statement. Answer an open ended question after each story.

1. Given a statement that could apply to two passages, in your own words explain what the author means. Use at least one example from each passage to explain your answer.

2. Explain how the character’s feelings change from the beginning to the end of the passage. Use at least two examples from the passage to support your answer.

3. Using information from the passages explain one way they are alike and two ways they are different.

4. Explain how the speakers in the poems or passages are different. Use one example from each to explain your answer.

5. In your own words summarize the passage. Be sure to include at least one important event from the beginning, the middle, and the end of the passage.

6. Using examples from the ad, identify at least three ways the ad tries to get people to buy the item.

7. Using details from the passages, describe two similarities and one difference from the two passages.

8. Choose a character. What word or phrase could describe that character? Use at least two examples from the passage to support your answer.

9. State the main idea of the passage and give at least two details to support your answer. (for nonfiction)
